  • faved..

  • i saw this tour...remarkable music made before the dumbing down of the rock music audience...which began in 1974 when traffic broke up and ushered in arena rock and disco era

  • I think that the BBC did a special on rock guitar masters many years ago and featured Steve Winwood playing Pearly Queen on, I think, a beautiful white Strat. He was white hot on some amazing riffs; it was then that I realized what a good guitar player he was.

  • awesome live version of this song. most of todays music is all show and no meat.

  • Woodstock baby!!!!

  • One of my favorites from a great band. I used to go to this way off the beaten track cvlub in Madrid, Spain - Chris Wood played there alot, got to know him a bit

  • Another fine guitarist, who fell through the cracks without the credit they deserved .

  • i agree those who choose should heard this solo and dear mr fantasy

  • What I would have given to have seen Traffic in concert back in the early 1970's. Sadly, could have gone and did not. Great artist never pass there music continues to live on and is just as relevant today as it was 20, 30, 40 years ago. Timeless music.

  • great to see Jim playing behind a kit...I miss him.

  • @backandtanful: I agree (I hope!)

  • good grief he hasn't aged, and the voice is still cosmic

  • トラフィック、一番好きな、素敵なLOVESONG"パーリー・クイーン"♛~クラプトン・レインボウ復活では、この曲に涙!~完璧ロックとはこれ!

  • Woodstock '94?

  • This was the traffic reunion tour,I think.I saw it at Shoreline Theater in Mt. View Ca. It was well attended cause bay area people know good music. The music and sound quality was awesome.Jim Capaldi was sounding so in the pocket, it was ridiculous. The whole thing was a study in tasteful presentation.

  • well i am drawn to their sound but surely it is always about politics...and human relations..

  • JESUSDOESAMEN.

  • DIDUSEETHEFLAG?

  • LMAO just realized I saw this tour @MSG if I am right Joe Cocker opened for Stevie

  • hello, i thought this was when stevie opened for the grateful dead.

  • @bj Save us from the clueless.

  • favorite band!

  • Nice to see steve back to his hippy ways....tired of that refined '80's look and sound he had goin for awhile....hippies rule

  • awesome version!

  • I always liked this tune by Dave mason, but this version is great!

  • Nice version from seasoned experts...

  • Pearly Queen....always one of my favs...thanks for the memories!

  • Traffic always had such bluesy, jazzy sounds to their songs and performances. Great innovators and pioneers in the alt-rock, and pre-jazz fusion/rock artists. Really amazing!

  • Happy Birthday Steve!!!! 5-12-2010

  • I LOVE TRAFFIC!!!! ;0)

  • Holy cow, this song is damn awesome.

  • Winwood, Capaldi and company made mystical musical magic together. I'm a little too young for Traffic etc but , I've seen Winwood perform alone or with Petty, Clapton,etc.-he just is a born gifted artist that pours his heart and soul and powerful smooth voice and musical ability into every note.

Too bad the younger generation of musicians(?) don't learn more from his lead. Now along with poor/no talent there is too much electo/techo beats instead of real musicians. It's sad they sell records.

  • Being slightly older than jbeldon36........(ahem), I'm really glad that younger guys are appreciating this music and this era. Though it was far from perfect, it was magic. I couldn't agree more with you man, I know it's cliche' to say " those damn kids, they don't know music" but talent is talent and you know it when you hear it. Well done!

  • @jbelden36 WINWOOD PLAYED ON A COUPLE SONGS WITH HENDRIX TOO...CHECK THE ELECTRICLADYLAND ALBUM

  • TRAFFIC.....the epitome of a hippie band!!!!

  • ALBUM DE 1968

  • man winwood can really jam on the guitar!damn!

  • Winwood is God

  • winwood for artist of the century??

  • I saw Traffic at Pine Knob on this tour in '94, but unfortunately I couldn't get my buddy to go to the '75 Cobo show.

  • I was at that show too. Loved it.

  • and don't forget Traffic was a big part of Electric Ladyland ....so who influenced who?

  • this is right around the time i saw them open for the Dead in Vegas in '94. man, they still got it.

  • today 12 May 2009

    Happy 61th birthday Steve !!!

  • Destination cool!! Thxu,

& happy 61 years to Steve Winwood

    ~smiles~

  • traffic jam is the kind!!! thxu, meow

and happy 61 years to Steve Winwood<<<

  • excellent....thank you Thierry~ & happy

over 60 years to Stevie Winwood~

    ~oooo~

  • what did he say at the end?

  • one down, 78 to go

  • awsome vid thanks for posting

  • Are you sure Winwood ripped that link from Hendrix? Or was it the other way round.

  • Great song & video..thanks for posting!

  • The psychedelic part at the end has Steve lifting the Hendrix part from 3rd Stone From The Sun.He's doing it an octave lower though.

  • This is great footage - is it on DVD?

  • Yeah, I think it's called "THe Last Traffic Jam". Probably available through Amazon...

  • I only heard this one a few times way back when, and now I like it more every time I hear it.

  • Thank you Dave Mason for leaving the group

  • ..you are right!!

and when Wood play the saxophone?

    my God...

  • i've always thought steve was a better guitarist than a keyboardist.

  • This is a damn good DVD.....get it for suure

  • Grandi Traffic, grande DVD... Tutti dovrebbero averlo !!!!!!

  • me encanta ...

  • Please, someone post the performance of Traffic in Woodstock 94.

  • Self Titled. The album is called Traffic

  • Awsome tone, I had the entire woodstock performance on Vhs but it got nicked, if anyone has it please post it. thanks : )

  • Great vid and great song! Traffic rules! Pity that Chris Wood (RIP) could not participate in this concert....Steve is a great musician and great singer, too. I love Traffíc!

  • It's 1969 again...Vietnam....listening to this album...Thanks you tube.....

  • Maybe the best overall musician in rock and roll history. Definitely the most underrated.

  • an absolutely scorching version of one of their most inspired numbers! what a nice surprise! am I wrong, or do I make out the hunching figure of rosko gee on bass? ideas anyone?

  • God Bless MR. Jim Capaldi -One of The BEST ROCK/JAZZ DRUMMERS/ WRITERS Ever, I will always miss HIM.

  • I am so glad that I can see Jim Capaldi is playing the drums! I felt angry when I saw him in their official video recorded in 1972, in which he was replaced by other drummer and participated to Traffic's live show playing only tambourine and backing vocals. However, even in such a bad condition, he played very emotional and made me feel something real.

  • right -on brother , yes he was it.. but earlier ,it was his choice to leave the drum kit and go up front and sing etc. He did play on some WINWOOD cuts through the years ,..[by the way the drummer you see in 72' is ROGER HAWKINS -who played w/ the muscle shoals guys and on ARETHA'S RECORDS [ RESPECT .THINK ETC. ]& DUANNE ALLMAN !!

  • Thanks for letting me know about the background stories. Yes, I admit that the drummer, Mr Roger Hawkins was great in that video. But all I wanted to say was that I felt something more from Jim Capaldi. If my comment made you feel bad, I would like to simply say sorry about that. Thank you.

  • No, I agree totally w/ you . JIM was a drummer I WOULD OF , Loved to see more of. TRAFFIC was probably my favorite band at that time & now,, i got to see them once in N.Y.C....THANKYOU SO MUCH..

  • Talent is timeless & this is talent at the highest level! Back in the day I would have said, Wow Man that was really farout man, like groovy man!

  • Look how this limey is playin bloody brillant......

  • Who's the guy at the very beginning? First 1/2 a second of the video.

  • if I didn`t know he died in october 1991, I`d swear it`s concert promoter and fillmore east/west impresario bill graham. but then again, it might have been a part of traffic`s elaborate backdrop/light show and/or archive material...i.e. it might very well be bill graham! hope this helps...

  • Winwood sure has aged well... Great music. Capaldi, RIP.

  • Saw this tour, poorly attended, it was fantastic!! Could not understand why poor ticket sales, then it dawned on me, this is quality music, and most people are clueless

  • Not in Philly. I remember the (semi-outdoor)Mann Center being full as far as the eye could see (no empty spots in the crowd).

  • @bj4paul

Well, I was in Europe that summer. The prospect of seeing Traffic and the Grateful Dead on the same bill was very, very tempting, even if Jerry was on his way out.

  • @bj4paul every time i see a cliche comment like this i cringe

  • @dug61275 You are easily cringed

  • @bj4paul

    or broke. tix were high

  • I like listening to Traffic when I'm stuck in city traffic. They calm me down to not get annoyed at dumb drivers.

  • traffic forever!!!!

    ============================

you bet, man! they were amazing in the studio & live as well. So glad I saw them 3 times. I still love this band...

  • fucking great¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • the most innovative of english bands post beatles. every album different in style & outlook.

  • This song rocks! Traffic forever.

  • This is great. And it's brilliant to note that on his most recent live tours Winwood's been playing material mostly from the early years. Wish you'd pick up the guitar more though.

  • Sounds orgasmic... Love this song.

  • I know Chris Wood the flutist & sax man died a while ago (before this), but does anyone know why Dave Mason left the band? I liked his vocals and guitar too. Winwood and Capaldi were incredible again.

  • WE LOVE YOU. JIM!!

  • Pearly Queen and Kings were the 1930 era punk rebels of the so called lower classes in London who dressed in sequined suits.

  • faantastic!!! RIP Jim Capaldi

  • I have their performance at Woodstock 94, but of course there is the problem of nudity here! wonder about Livevideo site instead??? I plan to try to get Allmans up as well. Michael Schenker covers this on his Endless Jam CDs

  • I'm so glad I saw them 3 times. Still, they NEVER played Mr. Fantasy when I saw them.... but I'm not upset about it...

  • No doubt about it, sure is a great track. thanks for sharing this vid.

  • That was smoking hot. Why isn't there a DVD from that tour? Traffic was an incredible band, and they never sounded better.

  • actually, there IS a cd/dvd of precisely that 1994 tour available! it`s entitled "the last great traffic jam" and was released on epic two or three years ago. reviews were actually very good...as evidenced by this great version of pearly queen.

  • GReat! Lovely sOnG

  • the bollocks

  • Winwood is tremendous...where is he now when we need him most? (To stop this punk shit)

  • Steve Winwood is a living legend and Traffic definitively a great band.

    Good video and sound.

  • Grazie Steve , grazie Jim.....

  • Oh, My GOD! The real killer is you have the best keyboard player in the world playing lead guitar as good as the best in the field. Wish someone would at least put tunes from their 1st LP on you tude

  • YES Steve has always been in the shadows , so to speak "HE IS AN AMAZING GUITRIST & MUSICIAN , NO DOUBT "....!!

  • Jimi Hendrix loved to jam with Traffic back in the 60's. I often thought that either Hendrix or Clapton played the solo on the original recording.

  • A great song from a great album from a great group! More please to share their music with those who didn't grow up with it! Class and/or classic will last forever!

  • totally mindblowing performance

  • Those friends of yours must've taken the 'brown' acid. Do NOT TAKE the brown acid!

  • R.I.P. Jim Capaldi very underated Traffic Reunion.

  • I had friends that saw this tour with the grateful dead that didn't appreciate it. They must have been on drugs?
