The VEX was the heart of Punk. No where else could you have seen bands like Black Flag, Social Distortion, Circle Jerks all on one bill or mixed with equally amazing bands! There were a lot of great venues, but nothing compared to the VEX!!!
Awesome I owe my early influence to kev and steve and all the crew ! We skated and thrashed reno in the early dayz . 1st generation skeeno skate punx where born in 1981 ! cheers out to "Randy Eyeberg" " Bobby Lichty" "Kev Cox" "New Wave Dave
and all our other skate crew. we did it before it was cool and trendy , we skated vert and streets what ever that crappy town called reno gave us. LONG LIVE THE SKEENO SKATE PUNX! 7 seconds was our soundtrack we where the crew! Mat / Cold Mourning
I believe this summer of June 1983 not 82. How do I know? I was there, and Kevin Seconds is wearing Canada's "Stretch Marks" which were friends of mine too. They also played the same gig and they did not come out here until that time. Also this is The Vex # 3 deep on Soto St.
I saw these guys in the mid 80s and they were GREAT! Long intros and short high energy tunes...plus longer singalongs! Lyrics were thought provoking and inspirational. Plus, who can't hum along to these tunes? These days, when I see bands, how many tunes can I walk out humming...BLAH!!!? "We're Gonna Fight" should be hit today esp in these apathetic times. Kudos to 7 Seconds. 30-50+ KILLER songs that get stuck in yr head... FOREVER! This my people, is THEE SHIT!
i was 13 one of 3 longhairs to frequent the vex we would record all the gigs either on radio or sb i have this on tape. tix were usually 7 0r 8.50 we would ask people for the .50 til we had enough to get in.lol
