I think everything was better in the 80s, I never lived then but all I know is the fashion was a whole lot more cooler then it is today, I loved the music especially!
"Snow was deeper"... No it wasn't! I can remember perhaps ONE, maybe two tops, snowy Christmases in the 80s. I got a bike on one at it was a pretty major pain actually.
Nevertheless, one of the very few good Christmas songs.
The sound of chopping onions from The Futureheads (or indeed anyone) would still be more interesting than the bland perma-stubbled free-trade dross produced by C***play.
But don't you think this will have the upper hand over all of them? There are a lot of jaded late thirty-somethings who may enjoy one more chance to get nostalgic.
Can anyone offer me any advice on how to start a Facebook campaign and get this to number 1 in the UK charts this Christmas instead of The X factor entry?
@Evie2607 Problem this year is that there are tonnes of different campaigns this year so it probs wont work. Some are trying to do "the bird is the word" others "The Pogues - Fairtale in Newyork" so it will be hard this year. Which is a shame as I love this track and it really deserves to be seen as better than horrible horrible x factor.
@dharvey86 "Christmas was better in the A-Team? " Well, yeah. If you didn't mind Mr T, dressed as Santa, crash landing on your roof in an armour-plated bus. Actually, given that I was five in 1987, I would have thought that the coolest thing I'd ever seen.
@shagchow the current snow is the heaviest and most prolonged snowfall in living memory - last time we had this much snow was the 40s or there abouts.

Christmas was always better when you were a kid. Kids today will wax lyrical about the tens, the next generation will about the twenties,etc...

Not only a great song, it delivers a great truth: Christmas WAS better in the 80s. The snow WAS deeper. Suck it, 21st -century Christmas . . .
