Wow really nicely done, the live action shots really live up to what I would expect from the cgi. Side note the fella playing Chekov is doing just an incredible job I mean really it fooled me at first in the long shots. Once again really nice and I would love to see more from this team.
Pretty darn good actually. The actor doing Kirk is pretty good, but just looks wrong. The actor doing Spock... well, I was taught to say nothing if I couldn't say anything nice. Of course the graphics, sound and music is excellent. Very well done indeed.

captain, it seems star trek has been infected by a homo element.
being male gay is of course wrong and so clearly exemplified by the sick need to make everything about being gay.
from a secular evolutionary perspective male homo is a defect, from a christian spiritual perspective it is an abomination. exactly what sound perspective warrants using star trek as a vehicle for homosexual promotion..
The New Star Treks are awesome well done special Effect,s and love the use of the origanel series Ships and sound effects liked both Spocks but wish they could keep a constant one . James protrael of Kirk well done on his own
Young homosexuals: your strong gay-pride bolsters your strength & gaiety! You'd better watch out for A.I.D.S. though! Our Spirits are timeless & ageless. Our physical bodies are temporary vessels. Our mechanisms know no textual imperfections.
"Of those who didn't speak up?" People are constantly taliking of the health risks of homosexual behavior. The arguements are shouted down by gays as being "intolerant". The word is out there.
The opening of an episode that leads into the themesong and credits is called a "teaser". You're thinking "promo" or maybe "trailer". Trek Movie used the correct term.
Wow I've never seen the Enterprise from the original series that heavily damaged (exept in video games). Not even in "Balance of Terror" or in "To serve all my days"
thats ironic, i quite liked how they anthropomorphised (anthropobovined?) the ship with those lines, invoking that special relationship between driver and car (cow?). And Kirk's resolute defiance at the end seemed most in character (as did Chekov's previous puzzled retort).
Yep and the Spock was good cooly delivering the facts.
holy cow 1 D7 can do that kind of damage to the enterprise. Right nacelle badly damaged, multiple hull breach. The Enterprise should'e fired more torpedoes. :)
Perhabs, perhabs not. But it's hard to establish since battle scene creators usually follow this golden rule: "Screw logic, the drama is what matters".
well my perfect counter to this is it's been shown in TOS that the enterprise can manhandle a D7. In the that episode troyus of elan. The Enterprise is on emergency power and withstands a fully powered D7s assault (disruptors). When the enterprise finally re-energized they fire a volley of torpedoes and the D7 is crippled. It's weird in this battle scene the enterprise never fired a single torpedo.
It was a good idea, but wrong execution of said idea. I would like to have seen everything completely overhauled, to bring it into the modern era. Maybe make the Doomsday machine look less like a windsock covered in cement for one.
There are so many contradictions and problems with Star Trek 'continuity' that I don't mind a new TOS-era movie being made. Plus, the old set would never stand up today. Unless Paramount (and any of you new-movie-haters) wants Star Trek to completely die, it's a good thing that they've modernized it. Sets like what they use in the new movie would have been used in the 60's if they had been available, but they did the best with what they had at the time, just as Abrams is doing. Go new Trek!
Other than their being something in the movie's plot to explain the.. discrepinces, keeping the formula EXACTLY the same for a new film would be terrible.
Hmm, your probably right! But I hope I'm right in saying that making a Star Trek film that EXACTLY follows what has been laid down in 'continuity' would be a waste of time for the makers and fans alike.

Wow, looks great. I agree this 'fan' productions keep getting closer to the original show. The direction felt like the TOS and I would like to comment on the music score. New Voyages to its credit lifted TOS sound track, but in my view it was a little over bearing in the way the incorporated it. But in this teaser its perfect. The opening was as good (or better) than anything in the original show. Thanks Mr. Cawley and all.
Part of Star Trek has always been examining contoversial political issues of the present. One thing about science fiction is that it provides a neutral setting to examine these issues. Racism, terrorism, addiction, individualism vs collectivism, mutually assured destruction, homosexuality. All rather politically charged topics that have been covered over the course of the various canon star trek series.

I am truly sorry that so many people have died from AIDS. It's a tragedy. But using this classic TV favorite as platform for making political statements fruitless. What's next? There are people in the far east who have to walk more than a mile to get a bucket of fresh water. There are cultures who will abandon their own kids if they have defects. Any Trek episodes about them? Stick to Gene's original idea, "where no man has gone before," not where man has been.
Moot point. BTW, how many of them are infected due to unprotected sex as in without the use of the condom? Realize one fact: to be gay is not a choice no matter what your opinion of it is. Realize also that being infected with sexually transmitted diseases has everything to do with the fact that someone does unprotected sex, no matter what one's sexual orientation is. Frankly, your reasoning is sensationalist and flawed. There are at all times, more heterosexual people in the world... biology!!!
Your self-appointed purpose to male-female copulation is irrelevant. You are not assimilation material. Biology is what tells us that being homosexual is not a choice, while other ways of scientific thought give us a way to assign purpose, in this case, male-demale reproduction is a biological fact, while the purpose is assigned by us. Biological processes don´t have a purpose, but instead emerging systems are what characterize biology. AIDS is a mutated virus from some apes or monkeys.
So I'll therefore directly ask - what evidence are you aware of that points to homosexuality being intentional and non-genetical? I am aware of none. What kind of paradign are you akin to, some form of religious dogmatism that convinces you to hate homos? Or an uncommon (among the scientific community of which I'm no relevant part) stance that sees homosexuality as the source of all venerial diesases. I claim not to be pseudo-intellectual... My views are in line with valid intellectualism.
it could be argued that "where no man has gone before" could mean to actively seek out and boldly go to the place of new solutions for old problems we've always had but have always traditionally and cuturally been brainwashed to 'turn the other cheek' from.
It could mean to dare to overcome the crippling prejudices that have stulted the evolution of our species and curtailed our abilities and faculties to explore strange new worlds.
Sometimes i wonder if we're watching the same show! lol ;)
That description certainly sounds like the original Star Trek, who could forget the controversy over the interracial kiss? Gene Roddenbury intended to introduce non-heterosexual characters into Star Trek before his death, unfortunately the people who took over after he died weren't nearly so keen on the idea and it never happened (DS9 mirror universe and kissing Trills episodes so don't count).
yes, i guess the mainstream will always have pressure to conform to where the makers thought the profit was (the original poster of this thread belongs to a materially rich vien of society that has learnt how to coopt resources).

I'm not crazy about it either. The Trek TOS producers might have injected current events into some episodes, but they weren't so blatent about it. And those were the poorest episodes. I saw a shot of what appeared to be a gay embrace in the trailer for Blood & Fire and I was turned off. If I interpreted this correctly, then I have no time to sit and watch an episode that features gay love. As for the Aids statement at the opening... I'll continue...
Fantastic! Phase 2 aka new voyages just keeps on getting better. The last webisode set the bar for fan made star trek - i think it's going to get higher. Mr Cawley i thank you from every classic trek fan who's had to wait nearly 40 years to be enthralled again.
Kelley is an ACTUAL urologist in real life. And while I think he may be putting some of his own money into this worthy project, I myself just don't think he makes that good a McCoy.
That was very awesome. I think this would make a very good TV series, way better then Enterprise. But if it is made for TV it should take place after Star Trek:TMP. Because there is a 15 year gap between the first 2 movies. which would have room for a lot stories and tie those 2 movies together.
I like the new spock, he resembles the original better. The older spock just didnt cut it for me, his face was too narrow. Plus you can't judge a guy for less than 30 seconds of dialoge.
In the scaly yellow shirt the new Chekov looks like Aquaman.
This Chekov IS a lot better suited visually. And Cawley seems more Shatner-like than Pine.
My biggest dissapointment is that the ST 11 bridge looks NOTHING like this. I dont have very high hopes for the outside of the ship after seeing the USS Kelvin.
Hmm... this Cawley guy could probably do something cool if he took his talent and poured it into an ORIGINAL piece of work instead of just scavenging someone else's idea for a show.
Hah! I love the "In a Mirror, Darkly" MSD running on the small station screen behind Kirk!

It is amazing how far they've come. Acting, writing, set design, effects...all show great improvements over the earlier stuff.

i agree, the look and feel of it readily draws one into the cherished universe of TOS. I so glad to visit that place again!

I love the AIDS introduction. It is fair that something is actually being done about it.
I also love that action sequence. It sort of reminds me of Dominion War battles on DS9, only with two ships instead of a hundred.

WOW!
Now that looks awesome. Cawley is at the top of his game, finally hes become more Kirk than Shatner-very well done.
And a solid logical reason for the 5 yr refit
can't wait!

Well, it really was an 18 month refit, according to Scotty in ST:TMP.
