I believe this movie should have won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor Liam Neeson, Best Supporting Actor Ewan McGregor, Best Visual Effects, Best Music Score, Best Sound Effects, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, and Best Cinematography at the Oscars despite what Star Wars fans have to say about this movie like the acting, direction, writing, and most importantly Jar Jar.

From Jar Jar to the end Fight and the songs, everything was cool as fuck when I saw it as a 10 year old.

@LaJin9292 Well, the problem is obvious: the viewer isn't a kid. I, for one, agree with you and find Phantom Menace to be perfectly Star Wars-y. I can watch episodes one through six and the only notable differences will be the special effects.

@Song: It took me forever to realize that this was the Emperor's theme. When I realized, my jaw hit the floor.

People's problems? Mostly the bad acting. I never noticed until it was pointed out though. The concept was great, the plot was amazing, the music was INCREDIBLE, the lightsaber combat was a good few notches above that in the original Star Wars episodes, and not ALL the acting sucked. Some of it did, though, to be sure. Enough that I'm tempted to say the root of the problem could be found in either poor actor selection or--possibly--poor DIRECTING. JarJar Binks RULES.

@LaJin9292 The problem was, much of it looked contrived and unnatural. Many of the actors were not really able to truly immerse themselves in their characters, for lack of a better way to put it. It sounded like they were reading off of a prompter.

GOOD acting is when they make it sound like they're really there, BEING those characters.
