  • Beautiful song, very talented artist.

  • Apart from the obvious .. my god ths song is .. brilliant, wonderful, great etc.. which is a given... I want the end shot.. the sunset/glowy kate look as a T-shirt .. when do I want it ? NOW..

  • beautiful

  • a stage

    a mikro

    a piano

    and KATE...Thats all!

  • this voice....

    this soul...

    the lyrics...

    the melody...

    WHAT A WOMAN!!!

  • Reading all these comments trying to explain what this song and album are about reminds me of what Martha Graham said when someone told her they did not understand a dance,

" I don't want you to undrstand it, I want you to FEEL it"

  • @dobdante Mostly the meaning of ART ! ;-) good;-)

  • it should've been a single

  • The nice thing about songs like this is, even if the composer was thinking about something totally different, it can be very subjective & have a deep meaning of many different characters for many different people. Any way you hear this song (& all of The Ninth Wave, and really most of Kate's songs), it's beautiful & moving.

  • I never ever get tired of this. Any musicians out there? If I could create just one moment as amazing as the crescendo at 1:04 I could die a happy man... as a writer and arranger that really isn't even fair. Unbelievable....

  • ..Just listen to this wonderful song..use your own imagination to decide what it's all about:) that's what matters..it's pure and beautiful in it's self:)

  • Tori Amos ripped off the "white horses" theme I see...

  • @manco82 white horses roaming free is a theme that has long fascinated artists noone stole it bcus it is in the back of every persons mind.

  • noodle says this is her favorite song.....

  • @papaguinia, she's drowning, floating on the waves ('white horses'), the 'little light' is a light on her life jacket. And if she falls asleep, she will go under...

  • I don't understand all the comments. I love this song and it's very lovely, but I've always assumed it's about death, perhaps even suicide. "Like poppies, heavy with seed, they take me deeper..." pretty clear. I assumed this was a person waiting for rescue and no one came.

The rest of the album is similar - very lovely but very disturbing. I believe it's about the stages of a woman's life.

  • Pure perfection, so warm and deep....let me be weak....brilliant.

  • Sublime.

  • Could there ever be anyone to rival Kate?

  • @paullavan2011 no. :D

  • Absolutely my favourite Kate Bush song ever.

  • I agree with westpalmscott.... MY favorite of all Kate's songs. And that's a TOUGH decision for me since they are ALL right up there in terms of THEE BEST! I love Kate so much that for the longest time I wouldn't even get on YouTube because I feel artists should be getting SOME kind of royalty for these views. The music industry is shot for good anyway so I tortured myself long enough. I will always love her music!!! There's no one better...

  • wave after wave..each mightier then the last...til last, a ninth one rose, roaring..and all th wave was in a flame

  • Yes-the ninth wave is about a survivor of ship wreck. like in Titanic or something. The song is about hovering on the brink of death, in agony and terror, and thinking how peaceful it would be just to give in. Its always quite a misunderstood song as something sweet light and lovely...when its a very dark. Jig of Life is the response to this.

  • im just gonna say it; this song is my all time favourite song of all time!! hahaha... its just perfect in every way..

  • I advise everyone who likes to know more about his song to watch the video"hound of love(full dvd) "it,s a docu of more than an hour explaining Kates music and espec this album;-)

  • @lixfer, Can you please send me a link too? I'd love to learn more about this being part 1 of "the Ninth Wave". Where can i find more info on that? Or can you post for all? Thanks!

  • Beautiful.

  • If you want to put yourself in the proper place to hear this song ... get in bed, turn out the lights and listen to the Shiping Forecast on BBC Radio 4 at 0045 .... hear "friendly voices talking 'bout stupid things" and drift off and "dream of sheep" ....

One of my most favorite songs of all time ....

  • Still serenely beautiful.

  • MY GOD THIS SONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL KATE BUSH MAKES ME FEEL CRY

  • Let me sleep and dream of Kate... :)

  • Let me be weak and stay a KT maniac forever...

  • met me be weak, let me sleep and dream of sheep

  • I love this song so much.

  • :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  • Beautiful song. Always when I listen to it I picture myself floating alone in a calm ocean watching the starry sky with comets passing and strange planets. Magic :)!

  • I think this is possibly the most beautiful song in the world.

  • @Symphony--One possible --and very good--interpretation. But her imagery isn't always linear. I do realize the album as a whole is about the shipwreck, but the phrasing suggests other things for me. I'm a poetry geek, so I see a lot of things in this one. Haven't seen her give her own statement on it, so I think you have a good take.

  • @lixfer Actually, Kate has talked about the song. I'll send you a private message with the links.

  • @Symphonyofflowers Would you mind sending me a link too... I'd love to read what she says about the whole of Ninth Wave. I know that the Georgian song in Hello Earth is a Georgian folk song which is a dedication to all the fishermen who have been lost to the Black Sea. Is the song sung by an astronaut? (here's a good version by Helmet Gonashvilli: /watch?v=sVPGu2gLrp8

  • @McPrfctday make that Hamlet Gonashvilli.

  • @Symphonyofflowers -can i have the links as well?

i always thought the whole thing was a dream of death, different deaths- in water, as a witch, as an astronaut watching the earth destroyed, and it makes her appreciate the people in her life (morning fog)

  • @Symphonyofflowers Could you send me private links of what she says too?

  • @Symphonyofflowers ca you send me that link please... :) i remember buying this on vinyl... so beautiful and haunting... x

  • @lixfer its just a song, i have listen for years on the motorways driving along, love kate, love hounds of love, didnt think it was about a shipwreck, always fought was abought being lonely.

  • @frisbeinstein: Actually, the "racing white horses" line isn't about whitecaps. The song is being "sung" by a lighthouse--the white horses are the circling beam of light, which lets the ships know it's not a buoy, but safe harbor.

    Hauntingly beautiful...

  • @lixfer No, the song is about a young woman who has fallen overboard from a ship and now she is lying in the water waiting to be saved. The "white horses" are the waves. And the song is not being sung by a lighthouse. Please see my other comments on this video.

  • She never came over here because she's afraid to fly............sad .

This is her most precious song

  • I love you Kate Bush. Thanks for everything.

  • This is THE best track on the Album... "Peek-a boo, little earth........... it's something bright travelling fast............ just look at it go...." so powerful yet haunting... Kate, you are a legend.... Where are you now???

  • My favorite track from Hounds of Love/ Ninth Wave....Thanks for posting!

  • One aspect of Kate's talent that is overlooked is her production of her music.

It's one thing writing on a piano, another thing being able to perform...

but to complete entire instrumental arrangements for every instrument in every song, to pick just the right take of each phrase (like the perfect vibrato on 'take me home' ... or the way her voice breaks slightly on the final word 'deeper')

Feminine music it might be... but she's just class, and gets music inside out.

  • Anybody know the instrument that comes in at 2:03?

  • @saelaird Yes, it's a bouzouki played by Donal Lunny.

  • @saelaird That's a Fairlight patch, not the bouzouki, The bouzouki is the plucked stringed instrument you hear right before 2:03.

  • @stratcat944 No, it's a whistle played by John Sheahan. I made a mistake when I wrote that reply. I thought the was thinking of the bouzouki.

  • @Symphonyofflowers Yeah that makes sense. Good call.

  • Genius.

  • "If they find me racing white horses, they'll not take me for a buoy" is just such a beautiful lyric. I love her way with words and how they make so much sense yet they aren't at all straightforward. <3

  • @xcrazyrandomerx "If they find me racing white horses, they'll not take me for a buoy"

She's talking about whitecaps. They look like the manes of a herd of running white horses. I never would have thought of that.

  • Hounds of Love is The Kate Bush Album. It is a perfect unification of beautiful poetry and musical sensitivity.

  • @1ngmar8ergman and POWER..

  • "I can't be left to my imagination." - one of my favorite quotes.

Thanks for putting her words here, Kate is not only a great musician, she's a poet too!

  • You're welcome!

  • just wonderfull

  • how it takes me back....HOUNDS OF LOVE WAS A MASTERPIECE...i see myself 20 years old so in love with a girl called ilaria,a girl i won't forget...kate bush is magic..TORI AMOS and other artists pay an high tribute to kate 's music

  • purely magical.I love this song so much, welcome to the magic that is kate.

  • she is the most magical lady ever.this song makes me cry my heart out.enjoy all who appreciate pure class and talent.Ill love her music forever.

  • @cosmicman666 couldn't agree more. x

  • @cosmicman666

    thank you!

You wrote my tought...and let know about my tears

  • For me, the most beautiful song she's ever written. The lyrics, the voice and the production are magnificent

  • Well said.

  • This melody pierces my soul.

  • This song is what I want. Great!

  • So sweet but cold... and magic...

  • faz chorar...

  • I dedicate this song to my sweet Rachel Tonello De Luca, for all the paradises she gave to me.

  • What is the painting in the first frame?

  • The Ninth Wave was a magnificent piece of musical genius by Kate, nice montage to go with the song too.

  • Thank you!

  • this song and the collection of songs that are " the ninth wave " is dedicated to my friend K.M .( 1970-2009 ) who now sleeps in peace, i will miss and love you forever, always, nate

  • If they find me racing white horses,

They'll not take me for a buoy.

    thats Boy<--- :)

    LOVE THIS SONG

  • No, it is "buoy". If you have the album you can check the lyrics yourself.

  • Little light shining,

Little light will guide them to me.

My face is all lit up,

My face is all lit up.

If they find me racing white horses,

They'll not take me for a buoy.

    Let me be weak,

    Let me sleep

    And dream of sheep.

  • Yes, I daresay it's a play on words.

  • Actually, you have to see this in connection with the whole suite. "The Ninth Wave" is about a young woman who has fallen overboard from a ship in the ocean and what happens to her before she is saved in the last song. In this song, "And Dream Of Sheep", she is lying in the water and waiting for someone to find her. And so she hopes that when they come to search for her, they will find her among the waves and not mistake her for a buoy.

  • I feel compelled to thank you for your wonderful

    annotation of Kate

  • This all fits wonderfully with thee use of the shipping forecast: one of my favorite sounds.

  • @Symphonyofflowers Thanks for adding the lyrics.....

I'll re-listen to the "Hounds of Love" now that you've explained it.....What a powerful and emotional song......

just beautiful,....The question remains....Do they pull her alive from the water ? or ..."They take me deeper and deeper." ..not.............thanx

  • The answer to your question lies within another song on this album's B-side (Under Ice).

  • @Symphonyofflowers

I reread your explanation so I 've answered my own question......"Before she is saved" you say.....sorry, I should have read it through

  • Lovely song, not heard in a decade or more. Added to favourites. Thanks
