  • shes cute.

  • I've had writer's block for an ungodly long time. Thanks to videos like this I'm only just now breaking out of it. If any who are watching this need another source to help you with writer's block check out writersde-block.blogspot.com. I found it by accident while searching for writing exercises. Many of the tips in this were really helpful. It's not elaborate but it's nice to have a fairly consistent stream of new methods from breaking this curse. :)

  • wat is up rabeca?

  • hardcore bizeps!!

  • i have writers block and its horrible:(

  • @withintemptationrock I know aye.

  • In what way is Rebecca an "expert" on writing? All the so-called "experts" on Expert Village sound like twits and offer lame advice everybody already knows.

  • @Bigwave2003 things that everybody knows are always taken for granted and forgotten sooner or later and having someone say it helps people to remember.also not everyone can be a smart as you dickhead. If you don't like it leave, but know this, its cocky people like you that screw up the most!

  • @auronjamespen When you have to resort to foul language, you really don't have much of a point to make. It's odd since you essentially agree with me that there's nothing "expert" about the people and advice presented on "expert village". If they want to call their videos "Stuff Everybody Already Knows" at least they'd be truthful about it.

  • I spent the entire video wondering if she was going to catch up to the subtitles.

  • Writer's block is largely a combination of mental and intellectual procrastination and uninterest at the task at hand.

I have rarely suffered from writer's block because as a journalist, I have deadlines and If I don't turn in my articles, I wont get paid.

My advice: Do something else. Turn on the tv, watch a dvd, go out with husband/wife. Divert your mind away from your writing and reduce your stress.

This has been a tip from a smartass.

  • I hate Expert Village videos. They accomplish nothing, and tell their viewers nothing they don't already know.

  • @JayStant You know what-you're right. I like Rebecca, she seems like a nice person but this is awfully general and vague at times.

Take a look at my tips from a smartass here and tell me what you think.

  • ..over 138 thousand videos..that floored me..lol

  • I am a young writer. I remember a few months ago, I got writer's block and stared at my ceiling for four hours without realizing it lol.

  • @MrWildboy94 me too

    i had it real bad

i was looking around the room like a crack head

  • my problem is that i only can think up the main most epic parts of my story , its hard to fill in the gaps with just the littlest minor details that make big impacts. I get bored writing the backstory I just wanna rush to the good parts and the excitement.

  • writter's bloke only happen to me a few times like 1 or 2 times and like for 2 minutes so i guese im lucky :)

  • when i have writter's block it only happens after i see a movie or episode i really likeand then everything comes to me then.and i just want to finish the story befor my life gets more difficult and i can't write

  • i have a pretty good video on writers block on my channel

  • Writers really are facsinating people. We can write story's about amazing shining knights in armor, traversing mystical and dangerous lands, but most of us lead very um... plain lives ourselves. Maybe i'm speaking for myself, maybe not. But I wish I would've been in a classroom full of people like the one's I see hear, instead of students who took on the trend of being completely illiterate. In days such as Shakespears era, people like us were vinerated. Sometimes I wish I had a time machine ^_^

  • Writers Block and procrastination are a very deadly combination to a stroy and I have massive casses of both,

  • when ever i have writers block its when im getting the bacics down for my story, like the setting, characters, names, and over all outline. do you have anything for that? because just getting up doesnt really hepl me and im starting to get a bit desprite. im only about 3 pgs into my frist chapter, and just THAT has taken me a month.

  • My problem is, I HAVE a lot to write, but I have FEAR distilled in me that if I START writing, I'm afraid I'll ruin the story that's actually in my head. I hope that makes sense, but I'm trying to overcome it. I'm also lazy to write. I have a wonderful story to tell (not all is planned out yet), and I do want to write it, but I AM LAZY!

    It's so frustrating...

  • I'd tap that.

  • I get over writers block by getting up, leaving the computer, and doing something, ANYTHING that doesn't require imagination. I just go out, take a walk, ride my bike, sit in the grass at a quiet park and stare at the sky. I make sure not to think about my story. When you focus on your writing while writers block is infested in your brain, you are only feeding the block. Get your mind away from your writing and come back to it later.

  • I overcome writer's block by getting up and looking around myself. then I really let my imagination go wild, I imagine the room (or whereever you are) coming to life. it probably sounds silly :) for example sometimes I imagine the walls falling down revealing a jungle or something. then I see things that I can use in my plot. if there are people around you you can try to imagine stories about them

  • Wow, thanks! You know, this happens to me so much times, but I always think, am I mentally retarded? Now I know it happens to other people! It's not only me! Thanks so much! Now I just gota get up, breathe in an out, move around, and just chill. Theres no due date. Its just what Im doing. THANKS! -Elliot

  • I have had a writers block for 33 years and it is finally going away.

  • @gairero 33 years, are you serious??????Did you start writing when you were young?

  • yes I wanted to write all my life and finally last year I wrote about 15 short stories that were worth showing to others and i have one novel structure i'm working on. I write in spanish by the way.

  • @gairero Is spanish your first language?

  • yes. why?

  • @gairero Well it would be hard to write in Spanish if that wasn't your first language.;) (By the way, I'm learing Spanish in high school and it's a relativly easy language to learn.)

  • well, compared to english I think it is far more complicated. I have tried to write in English but it is too difficult. I mean I surely can express myself in english, but writing literature is something else.

buena suerte con tu español :D

  • @gairero So you have had writers block since you where one years old?

  • @gairero I'm glad it is. :) I'm currently going through a slight writers block which isn't handy because I have a 32 chapter novel due by Christmas. What were your techniques?

  • When I get writers block I either ignore it and keep writing, sometimes write with my eyes closed so I see what i am writing instead of the text itself. Or I go to the gym and get some training done. I believe moving around helps but ramming through the block does also help for me

  • ur advice is good but ive done that 100 times and yet..nope... :'( months..MONTHS!!!!

  • i HATE writer's block. i have an essay due monday. and i have ridiculous writer's block right now.

    UUUGH

  • Thanks! I need this more than anything right now!

  • good advice thanks...

but at 1:51 did you actually say "circular breasts"?

  • Does this help for ppl who write music?

  • @atlmycity2 I belive so its wriitng right? :)

  • Thanks for the tips and a bit off-topic, but I like your office-space. ^^ It has a nice design.

  • rferfref

  • I too get writers block, by days and nights but when I'm in school my thoughts wander and vanish. I walk home, the wind blows, sun gleaming of my face, but my writing thoughts linger throughout the dawdling walk. and that's when writers block, disappears.

  • What I like to do is to go out to the mall and walk a few laps. Also I find that free writing helps me through writer's block.. I will just try to write whatever comes to mind on the paper.. Most of the time I try not to even think I just let the words that want to come out release themselves onto the paper.. I find that thinking a lot causes writers block most of the time.. and concentrating too hard which causes the words not to flow. Just try not to think too hard, let the pen do it's work

  • For me; it's music and time in my garden. I guess fresh air and oxygen to the brain cells works wonders.

  • For me, a brisk walk with a notepad and pen is a good antidote.

  • Well, I appreciate the advice, but the problem with writer's block usually isn't this. Talk more about techniques that gather inspiration.

  • I got writers block sometimes, but I do a brainstorm thing. Like if I need to come up with a name, I'll spend two minutes writing words then I'll mix them up to see what I like. Or I'll mix and match from names in magizines. I think when you brainstorm it helps.

My brain's actually reall random on what it wants to write, the other day it decided it wanted to write a Western short story, and then last night I got the idea to add a motorcyle gang in my other story. LOL

  • Oh, and I forgot, if this helps make anybody, J.R.R Tolkein had writers block for a WHOLE YEAR. The characters were stuck in the Mines of Moria for a year cause he couldnt figure out what to do next.

It makes me feel better! ^^ LOL!

  • damn

  • how come? What'd I say?

  • that JRR tolkien had writers block

  • @CamoCat5000 It also took him ten years to write Lord of the Rings. :3

  • I had writers block for almost a year, and I m just now starting to get over it

  • what if you're a musician and you usually come up with awsome songs and melodies? does this still help?

  • this is amazing

  • LOL, did she look out the window while she was showing how to breathe at 2:00? Who was she looking for? Anyway whatever happened to the good old fashioned free writing cure to writer's block. Isn't that still good?

  • oh man, i'm blocked today and i couldn't continue my story anymore and i am writing short stories not novels anymore because of this writer's block!

  • Ya that can be very difficult, just because of writers block you will usually find other things to spend all that unused creativity on and end up with several unfinished stories. Sometimes doing that helps me a bit because coming up with other ideas may lead to a better idea for the story i was working on in the first place. They may be little details, but those little details might be the thing you need to fill the hole with to get to the end of the story. So don't feel left out lol, it's hard.

  • Awh man! That so sad! I have the opposite thing. I used to be able to do short stories, but now I HAVE TO do bigger shit.

What I do with my block, is I just leave it for a day or so. I have a script to finish like SOON, and I've got writer's block. But thats only because I need to check with the director/producer on something before i go on.

  • speaking of Kurt Vonnegut... i picked up Bluebeard at my school library COMPLETELY RANDOMLY.... and i loved it... couldn't remember who the author was for the longest time... i should read some more of his stuff...

  • Hi Rebecca, very nice tips... When I don't know what I am writing anymore I walk to the park and sit for a while... sometimes I have some very interesting conversations there. Bye from Argentina.

P.S I love the color of your walls!

  • thank you for this i will try it out

  • I don't agree at all.

Kurt Vonnegut said when he got writers block he would force himself to sit at the computer staring at nothing for an hour. This is what I do too, and it forces me to think of the story as real as life. But to each his own I guess.

  • Rebecca, I'd breath deeply

    with you all day long.

  • I have experince that and i'm only 14

  • I read a long long time ago writing/typing at a monitor is BAD for writing a story or such!

  • depends, some people find it easier to write on paper

  • She's lovely.

  • Gret tips. Her apartment looks really nice though.

  • I think sentence starters are useful. It is also useful to think metaphorically.
