  • Fantastic lads from your Aunty Rose x

  • hey, thanks so much with the upload i was raised on silly wizard. might i ask what concert this is?

  • @barakl Silly Wizard Live in Concert at Center Stage - Atlanta Georgia April 1, 1988. It's been out of print for several years now.

  • Thanks for this, I'm glad you included the jokes and stories. I saw this on Austin City Limits years ago and have been a fan ever since. One thing I remember that cracked me up was when they did this long explanation of the medley they were about to play and how there was a traditional Scottish song that people would recognize because the Beatles had stolen it for a song and that people should listen for it, in the middle of the medley they broke into a cover of "Do You Want to Know a Secret"

  • @c0gsinc0gs Agree, that was really funny. If you do a YouTube search for "Scottish Tradition: Phil Johnny Cunningham 2" by user UISTMAN59, you will see essentially the same thing, unfortunately without the lead-in that made it so funny (sadly, the clip is also out of synch). If you do a search for "Aly Bain and friends Cunningham", you will find the full-length show that UISTMAN59's clip is from. Johnny and Phil perform together twice in the show - also with Richard Thompson - great stuff. :)

  • @NoRefillsLeft

Thanks, that's really great to know!

  • top stuff

  • great humour great music proper entertainment eat your heart out billy connolly these are the men of the people

  • Our hats off guys ! This is top ! Phalaïna

  • Beautiful song

  • You don't know how precious this is to me. I've loved Silly Wizard forever, but alas I'm too "young" :-) to have seen them live. This is pretty much the first time I see a video recording of them. If you have anymore to share, pretty please, put them up. I, and everyone in my situation, will be eternally grateful. :-)

Here is to the best Celtic band ever...

  • LOL!

  • I thank you - and love the banter a lot.

  • These guys are right on! Thanks for the posting!

  • This video and your other clip from Atlanta really brought back the memories. I saw them at the International House in Philly - perhaps it was the same tour. I remember being overwhelmed with the virtuosity of Phil and Johnny Cunningham. Thank you.

  • @xanadugardener You are most welcome. :)

  • 4/7/10 - 9:30 p.m. - 10,000 views! Thanks for watching. :)

  • Another musician just identified the second waltz at the 7 minute mark as "Donna's Waltz"...he knew because Robin Bullock recorded it and used to hear it all the time.

  • @Poodlepups that's what I was thinking as well when I heard it :) I play "the palomino waltz" and eventually listened to a recording of that where Phil combined it with "Donna's waltz". Love this whole video!!

  • So great musician and awesome comedian EPic Win

  • Never having seen Silly Wizard live (alas!) I never new Andy was damned near a standup comedian.

  • I was there and it was great!

  • brilliant stuff

  • Thanks for more silliness....:)

  • That's lovely, friend! Big thanks for sharing!

In Atlanta! Wish I had been there! ~NAncy

  • This is bloody amazing. Wish I could get a hold of this whole DVD.

  • brilliant

  • Is there any debate that silly wizard is simply the best celtic band of all time - outrageous musical ability (RIP Johnny), awesome vocals, pee yourself humor... Altan has great musical ability but not the complete package these lads had. oh for a time machine to go and be at this concert...thanks so much for posting!!!!

  • I couldn't argue with you...

  • They might be the best Scottish celtic band, but they don't compare to the Dubliners or the Clancy brothers

  • @purrshaped I disagree I think Silly Wizard has better music...Andy makes it though they'd be nothing without him.

  • saw them many times, always enjoyed them. brilliant band.

  • What a find! This is a very old and rarely performed song, done exceptionally well by a fine group. It has seldom been recorded. Thanks for posting this and for remembering Willie Archer and his lady, wherever they may be.

  • Hopefully neither of them are still hanging around down by the river Bann . . . :)

  • Can't seem to stop listenin to this every day now...

    Tnx fer postin'!

  • Great clip NoRefills , the first time I saw them was in The third Eye Centre in Sauchiehall St , Glasgow in the early 70's , they were great then and still are.

  • Lucky you. :) I've seen Andy with Gerry O'Beirne several times, the same with Phil & Aly, and I saw Johnny with Celtic Fiddle Festival and Susan McKeown, just never Silly Wizard. Except for this video. :)

  • Thank you so much for posting all three of these Silly Wizard Live pieces. Are there more?

  • I have the entire concert on video, but (a) hesitate to post more due to ye auld copyright issues, and (b) my computer broke. :) Also, I really do my best to respect the rights of artists to collect their royalties. I hope these 3 clips are sort of a "trailer" for their music. :D

The video has been out of print for years and I can't find any to buy. Hopefully the band members will get this show out on DVD some day.

  • I certainly understand and respect your desire to avoid copyright issues and respect royalties -- although if a performance isn't available to purchase any more it's frustrating. I'd certainly purchase a recording from the source if I could!

  • @NoRefillsLeft

Hello mate! I want to say many thanks to you for posting these three videos and ask if there is any chance maybe to share the whole concert? This is one of my favorite bands and I'd love to have this video in my collection, but it seems to be impossible to find it anywhere else :(

    Thank you in advance!

  • Most enjoyable. 5*. Thanks for posting. Apart from the song I could listen to the Cunningham brothers all night. Such talent.

    Terry.

  • Lol,become a master weaver and support a weaver:Called the great celtic lie.

    Lolzers

  • hi i am berg i like this song!!!!!!!!!!1 woot hfgdhgf

  • I LOVE listening to the Cunninghams playing together. Whether they happened to be performing with Silly Wizard or Relativity or Nightnoise they were consistently great! Luckily the Cunninghams always seemed to be teaming with other superbly talented musicians and the result is a mountain of wonderful Celtic music.

  • Ein Hoch auf Silly Wizard und Andy M. Stewart!

Ich freu mich über jedes posting!!

    Thanks for posting!!!

  • I Love Silly Wizard. The story is one most of us can relate to...the music is timeless!

  • I'm Russian but this music seems to come from the very deep of my heart.

    Thanks to S W!

  • "Endlich auch ein Video von Andy M Stewart, als er noch jung war. Auch für mich die beste männliche Stimme der keltischen Musik.einfach legendär "

At least a clip of Andy M stewart, when he was still young. For me the best male voice of the celtic music. simply legend
