I agree with everything Dave says here. But the question for many bands is: for the most realistic people do I see this as a viable career option? The answer should be no if you're not willing to put in the many hours that Dave is talking about to promote your music. I would counter that he's not talking to the many bands that play simply for the joy of performance. Who simply record and perform to break even. Most bands don't see success happening. And when it does it blind sides them.
