@berniebay Well if you find this fun, all the power to you. I figured you were just doing it because you seem to have this intense need to always be right.. >.>
I guess it is, technically. Star Wars is technically science fiction because it is science fantasy, a sub category. But, calling it science fiction would be like calling LoTR fiction, it makes no sense. It's more accurate to say LoTR is fantasy as Star Wars is science fantasy.
If a novel is dystopian, the more accurate word to describe it is dystopian and not science fiction. However, most dystopian novels fall under the science fiction category.
OK I liked bionic dance's recent video... but you actually did convince me with your point, so you did change my mind to your side in this fun discussion. And now that i think of it....didnt Lucas use a lot of fantasy/ religious stories as his influence for star wars?
I would say so. Lots of religious ideas. Lots of magic, knights, monsters, and wizards.
Now, I don't think something needs to be hard science fiction to be considered science fiction. But, hard science fiction, for me, is more enjoyable. Although, some soft sci-fi can be good.
A lot of Arthur C. Clarke's work is soft/medium science fiction. Nowhere near as soft as Star Wars though. Lucas didn't even seem to try to make it somewhat realistic.
You know, not everything has to be dissected..

@N0tCr4zy
Fair point. But, why not dissect everything anyway?
berniebay 4 months ago
@berniebay Why would you?

@N0tCr4zy
Because there's no reason not to and it's fun.

@berniebay Would you say A clockwork orange is sci-fi?

@loui4125
I've never read it or seen it. So I don't know. It's dystopian, isn't it?
berniebay 3 months ago
@berniebay I don't have a clue it's really hard to put it in a category.
