  • CAMPANELLA!

  • I think That was the best one on Youtube. Beautiful piano and sound.

  • Nice, I play it also in E, but I play it a little bit faster and I don't wear my watch on the right hand^^

  • It's a little bit too fast for my taste, but I like it.

  • @matthijsken3011 Check out my other version of this same piece. My tempo is somewhat slower, and not as choppy. I also play the natural E chord as originally written by Chopin. Look for the notice captured on the video for the E natural chord.

  • Very Very good! I have to analyse this for my uni! And you helped a lot! Cheers! loads of other versions that I found in youtube don't have good dynamics etc! and some of 'em are played on electric piano! You can't hear the melody at all on an electric piano!

  • @lacrymosa85 I will report users who post fowl language on my posts!

  • Very nice. Friend of mine was moving, sold me his upright grand. I'm a guitar player and knew some piano. Got the sheet music for Chopins prelude and Could it be Magic. Not being proficient reading muic, I meticulously put the letter beside each note. (helped me learn to read music). Then I could see what it was F, C#, etc. Made it easier at the time. After some serious time, learned to play song outright.. Just checking vids Thanks for yours. Your piano sounds great.

  • I liked the tempo. Is that a highball? :)

  • This is MY interpretation - and if you can read previous comments here, you'd understand. With vocabulary like yours, I'm surprised you can read music at all picklehead50

  • Third measure fourth beat is E natural, not E flat, fuckwit.

  • @PickleHead60 lmao

  • Great performance!

  • nice. great tempo and touch on the hammers. chopin is my fave.

  • you play it really nice!

but.... is the sheet music of liszt la campanella overthere because you can really play that or is it just for fun?;-) and if you can, have you got a video of that?

  • I liked Barry Manilow back in the day, but now he's just stale. Given the choice between Could it be magic and the ORIGINAL Chopin prelude, I pick the latter each and every time :)

  • nicely done sir!

  • a tad too fast, but otherwise it's good

  • very nice. I heard Barry's song first too, and later learned it was Chopin.

  • My goodness, you are so talented! It really makes me wish that I stayed with piano when I was little. Bravo! I know its a bit late, but thank you for uploading this!

  • Very nice! Great job of bringing out the melody notes in the 2nd half of the piece!

  • this one is the best c minor Chopin on youtube... the electric pianos don't captrue the rich tones and depth like the piano. thanks for posting!!! :)

  • Have you heard the boy band Libera sing this. Its called The Fountain' on their latest CD 'Peace' fabulus1

  • i could play this song but the duet and... nice playing

  • Change your piano , and be careful with your tempo !

  • What do you mean change the piano? I think it should be tuned. That is all. Good timbre and volume. Nice, thick tone.

  • very ver good. this is actually a very difficult piece to read. but also......I HATE HATE HATE HATE BARRY MANILOW

  • I think he did some really good stuff, but I can see why you might not like him...some of the songs he did were really bad. He truly inspired me to learn piano with his interpretation of this Chopin classic.

  • @KingPixelmouth i aswell hate barry manilow

  • I'm curious too...A friend of mine seems to like this video clip also^_^

  • Rofl...you guy's have no clue who that is do you^_^

  • so jealous... a nice piano and a nice big glass of ....? i would stay there for days.

  • @kieran514

Me too! Except I'm not sure I'd keep liquid on top of it, if it spilled I'd have a stroke!

Nice performance, thanks for sharing!! =D

  • i gave u a five

  • good job

  • I watched so many vids of this tune searching for that perfect one and this is the one that finally made it to my favorites. Nicely done.

  • gee - thanks. There are a LOT out there!

  • @ccie9716 FloBoy7X7 did a great job here. Check this one out also:

    watch?v=XfAhYjEqCZU

  • nice, could u send me the music sheet for this piece? its lovely

  • You played great, 5/5 btw if u have the sheet for this can u pls send it to me??!! PLEASEEE thxs u alot if u can

  • quick question - did you choose to play an e flat on the fourth beat of measure three, or was it written that way?

  • I chose to play it that way ... to hear it as written, see my other version. There is some controversy as to whether Chopin approved of this particular way I play it here...who knows for sure? The other version is more correct and I play it better but on a not so beautifully sounding Yahama Grand.

  • FlyBoy, I really enjoyed your version because the tempo you chose seems to feel right to me, regardless if it's not what Chopin wrote down into the sheet music.

  • The sound on that piano was very rich and deep. The sound of a grand always gets to me. Very excellent performance, I just got the sheet music for that piece.

  • i played tis song best when mom and dad had a fight

  • I love this song, that must have create quite an unusual moment!

  • the sounds are like organs very nice

  • :) very well played.

this was my first chopin song i ever did. i was in 8th grade.

the quality of your piano sounds very nice, very rich. nice job :)

  • i actually would prefer the soft sounds of slipknot and lamb of god...but hey, what ever floats ur boat

  • i can't believe you have a drink on your piano!!

    my tech would kill me!

    nice job, btw

  • well at least it's on a coaster

  • i likeed!!! wo0o0w i likee you´re sound

  • Awesome!!!

  • I love this simplicity and beauty of this piece. It reaches deep into the soul...

  • You don't have to hit 100 keys on a second to make a great piano piece.

    just Chopin can do that.

  • go check out Could it be Magic by barry maniloe, he stole the piano riff from this haha =p

  • I love this song.

And, your piano is very nice sounding to!

  • Very nice indeed and what an amazing sounding piano.

Re: the perceived lack of expression and excessive pedalling, I think the recording process is partly to blame, and I'm noticing this in many of the home recordings. It has to do with Automatic Gain Control - the recording device is constantly trying to maintain an "average" recording level, which removes a lot of the dynamics/expression. I think if you had used a more professional recording device the result would be quite different.

  • Playing was decent, but I'm gonna have to say that the song DEFINATELY sounds better, for some reason, because of the scotch(or what looks to be scotch) glass sitting there... Going through some rough times?

  • Playing was more than decent and the pianoforte itself sounds great! I don't get the point about how it sounds better due to the scotch glass being there...Jabbers, you may be the one going thru rough times...ease up on the liquor baby.

  • Hahaha, I'm not the one pounding on the minor chords, baby! You did well, though. People usually play songs better when they're going through some rough times.

  • i like the E natural version xD

hehe, i'm eyeing that Campanella... >=]

  • i personally like the Eb version, it gives it a much more diverse feeling

  • He plays this very well and uses the "flat chord option" which I also use.

  • We studied this in my music theory class today. The best part is the second phrase at 00:33. The bass just going down chromatically so smoothly, you can barely notice.

  • I notice you play an Eb on the fourth beat of measure 3. Some teachers say it should b an E-natural because of the E-natural on the second beat.

However, there is a story that one of Chopin's students played an E-natural like a good little boy, but Chopin stopped him and marked an Eb on the score.

So Chopin made a mistake. Too bad they didn't have Finale and Sibelius programs back then; he could have caught his mistake in the playback.

  • barry manilow must die for what he did to chopin!

  • too fast

  • yes... just slightly slower will do

  • I like this Tempo and I think it is the right tempo; Tempo of this prelude is LARGO not LENTO, music has to flow!

  • For the record, largo IS slower than lento.

  • Largo and Lento are not only Tempo indications but also character indications: Largo is slowly and stately; Lento is slowly and dragging. The prelude has to flow slowly not hesitating but stately, solemn.

  • Yep...it´s melancolic...more slow.

  • i can see la campanella :P

  • Beauty in its elegance.

  • slow down a little. it sounds a lot more dramatic and beautiful when its slower.

  • There's a time and place for it, surely. It'd be a better idea, if that's how you feel, to avoid all songs of melancholy outright rather than playing them at a more cheerful pace.

I don't have a problem with his interpretation of the piece, by the way, I'm just taking you up on your perspective on the video. I have a lot of respect for the musician, and don't mean any personal disrespect towards you either as it goes.

  • ViolentRiC

I share your thought but that is my prefence

to this piece, and by the way I love the

    way you speak.

  • Fair enough, and thanks! I must say that it's a pleasure to be able to have a civilised exchange on YouTube. There's far too much hostility on this site and I sometimes have to stop myself from falling into that trap. We don't all have to agree in order for us to treat each other with respect, after all. Glad you enjoyed the performance.

  • i'm blushing

you are so welcome. I hope that we could

have a more longer conversation about music

and there composers. I play the piano and

would love to have the opportunity play this piece for you as it was intended to be played. Hope to here from you soon

    was intended to be played.

  • what no cussing?

no wanting to kill each other?

o.o; i vote you two the most smartest nicest people on you tube ever!

a response to some one mostly starts off with

%$#%^$ YOU! and then followed by "No &&^%$4^%$^ you and your^$&^%$^%$7 with %$^%^%$&^%" and then maybe a few typos here and there and then end of fight :D

    youtube argument 101 lol

  • Very nice, needs some work thought.

More dynamics, and it should be slower.

    Trust me, I know ;-)

  • what is that drink?

  • To everyone who must have there remarks on this video it is his choice how he plays, its not on here for you to criticise its here to enjoy so enjoy it and dont bother commenting with remarks on peoples style. A good piano player has there own character there not robots who follow everything by the book the sooner you start doing that the sooner piano becomes fun and then you have your unique character on the piano which everyone can enjoy.

Good playing by the way flyboy7x7.

  • it is his choice to play, but you don't post things for people to just listen, you want criticism, it's the only way to get better, to learn stuff that you're doing wrong

  • Manilow ruined this for many at the time. Yes too fast but worse than that...you're playing the dotted quarter like a quarter...coming off of it waaaaaay too fast, and then the 16th is placed too soon because o that. Try holding the dotted quarter for the count and a half. You'll love it.

  • Manilow ruined it for many at the time. Also, you're coming off the dotted quarter note WAAAAY to early. You're playing it like a quarter note, and it doesn't allow that nicely placed 16th note where it belongs.

  • who the hell are all these people commenting?!

The tempo was half a beat off, the expression was not quite expressive as it is expressively recommended to express, and the pedal, OMFG the pedal, I mean what is he, using the pedal? I like fuller tones so I don't!

PEOPLE?!?! It's just a guy who posted his pretty good playing for us to listen to.

If any of you were actual experts you probably would not be posting on youtube.

Just enjoy, else buy yourself a pollini record.

  • too fast...but good expression

  • I trusted in you when i saw "La Campanella" on the piano!

    Hahahahaha

  • The tempo is OK, please, stop balaming the pianist. The pedal is OK, too. But insufficient expression/feelings. =)

  • I wouldn't necessarily say this was too fast, on the whole, although you start off fast at the beginning then slow down. But from the recording (which admittedly on YouTube isn't that clear) it sounds like you're holding the pedal too long and blurring the chords. When I play this piece, I like to put the pedal down within the chords to give them a fuller tone, then change the pedal as the chord changes.

  • ahhh beautiful i love it i sang this in my choir- it's called "December's Keep." When I sang it, there was a beginning like an introduction. Are you familiar with this? It always had in introduction little melody. Or is this a different version? Because everything is the same except the beginning

  • is that a glass of scotch sitting on that piano?

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yes...manilow.. took chopin and he created could it be magic

  • great

  • I was going to reply to someone's comment about Liszt's La Campanella sheet music on my piano...I clicked on "remove" instead of "reply" so sorry...

  • too fast!!! but still ok.

this piece is largo i think!

  • I agree with the "Too much pedal" comments.

  • Beautiful!

  • Very good i like this performance,,maybe to much pedal but it works fine altogether.

  • i love the music <3 so pretty

  • IT's very good, but I thought it was without pedal

  • this is too much pedal, if it were to have breaks then it would be great, also notice the PP in the sort of repeat

  • OK - I'll try it again without so much pedaling...you're correct about the PP on the last line, it obviously didn't manifest itself in this version of mine! Also, in response to so many others - the 12th quarter note IS played here as a minor C chord - a choice I prefer to Chopin's first (supposed) publishing of this piece. I've heard that he changed it to a C minor chord which in my opinion sounds better.

  • Great!!! How did you record it, man?

  • I used my digital Kodak EasyShare DX7590 camera and used the movie function...Voila! Actually, my piano has an incredible sound that makes up for the less-than-ideal audio feature of the camera.

  • Thanks - glad you enjoyed it!

  • i think u got the tempo messed after four measures.

  • I like this performance of the prelude.

  • Nice job!

  • Hello, Steve! Very nice. I like it. I did not know that Barry Manilow had been inspired by this piece, and composed "Could It Be Magic". I like Barry Manilow, too. Looking forward to watching another video of yours in the near future. Good-luck.

  • Hi Tatsy...I'll post Tramaurei next - I was inspired by your version and, I updated my profile as well. I wish I had more time to devote to piano!

  • I watched your Tramaurei. You played it very beautifully. I also wish I had more time to devote to piano. Good luck on your work.^^
