  • I used to own one of these great organs as I am so sorry that I sold it! It was one of my favorite Hammond organs, besides the Concord 2307 and the original Piper. The pedals originally had croam on it as it looks great. My favorite it the modern contemporary style of this organ and the Arpeggiator!

  • @patsaxon Hi Pat, When I think of some of the wonderful instruments I have had the pleasure of owning, and then sold to get something 'better' - only to find out that the new 'better' instrument was not half as good as the one which I had parted with. Ah well... that's progress, I suppose?

    Best wishes - Peter :)

  • how wunderful! :)

  • @paranormaalutrecht Thankyou very much. Best wishes - Peter.

  • thanks for your answer you really are the master cheers

  • Peter have you played the X66? and if so which one do you like best? cheers

  • @decatlon14 Depends on the style. The X66 (to my ear) tended to be a bit brighter, a bit 'toppier' with its sounds, and so was absolutely brilliant for jazz or 'pop' tunes.

The X77 (which also had the couple of 'extra' drawbars producing higher overtones) I thought was rather mellower, and so suited 'theatrical' more romantic tunes. Maybe it is just me, or how the instruments were balanced at the time I played them.

Thanks for listening to my music, and for your kind comments. Peter :)

  • That was very entertaining and looked like fun. Twas great to see a real HAMMOND tone-wheel organ (X77) played well and also listen to. Cheers and thank you from Australia.

  • Peter have played the X66? what differences do you find between these two? awesome playing!

  • @ Harry. The X77 has a well-deserved reputation for problems including occasional fireworks! There are plenty of mods that can be done to make things better. Once working, it's a fine sounding organ.

@Peter. Some nice vids, my friend! Brings back some good memories of working with you back in 'the good old days'! Andy Gilbert

  • I have heard that the Hammond X77 has lots of problems with technique: Is that right? I had planed to buy this organ but the engineer said that this organ is his source of income... Now I have the Hammond Grandee and she works well (no tonewheels)

  • @HarryTMorrison Hi Harry, It is many years since I last played this model and I suppose your engineer may be right. However, I have played several other tonewheel Hammonds recently, and (provided the oil is kept topped-up properly) they have all worked perfectly well.

I may be worth checking that the instruments in your engineer's experience had been well maintained in the first place.

Best wishes from Sweden - Peter :)

  • @HaywardMusic Thanks! I had luck! :-)

  • Do you still have this beautiful Hammond?

  • @KNRTVStudio510 Hi, unfortunately this fine instrument was never mine. It belonged to some friends who kindly invited me to play, and record on their wonderful Hammond.

The music eventually found its way onto a video called - Drawbar Magic. This clip is taken from that video. Thankyou for listening to my music.

  • Break On Through To The Other Side???

  • @RayManzarekGod With the help of God and music, yes this is possible.

  • @HaywardMusic I agree totally :), But i meant, at the beginning, you are playing the bassline of the Doors song "Break On Through!"

  • @RayManzarekGod Didn't realise that until now. Thanks again for listening, and for your friendship which I really appreciate.

  • @HaywardMusic No problem at all... I think Ray (their organist) said he borrowed it from a Latin American piece... Great playing by the way!

  • That organ is really cool. I play some (very poorly) and it's hard enough to play with two hands, let alone having to use your feet at the same time. I like the interpolation of the Brazilian Coffee Song at the end. How old is this organ?

  • @RRaquello Hi. I'm pleased that you like the sound of this old Hammond which is over 40 years old, having been made around 1969. Thanks for listening and good luck with your music.

  • really well played sir, I really appreciate and admire your great wisdom, skill and lore. Maybe i didnt express myself in the right manner, i beg your pardon sir, al i wanted to say, sir, that in my humble opinion the beauty of this samba songs is in the relaxed way they can be played. Hard for me to find the right words, lets say, lazy way, i think you know wha i mean, the lazy flow, maybe less notes, more flow ... cheers and great admiration! PS i think organists are extremely kool :)

  • really well played, but!

the rhythm is not relaxed and kool as it should be, as it is neurotically chopped and uncool , my humble opinion, sir

  • @ronthedog82 It was the style in which I chose to play this tune, and in those days (25 years ago) of no automatic rhythms, no orchestral backings, and only a very poor (dry) reverb, it was the 'Hammond Style' which was expected.... fast, exciting, and (hopefully) entertaining.

We were never 'kool' - but we did try to entertain, using just our fingers and a couple of sets of drawbars. Thanks for listening, and for your opinion which I respect.

  • Suddenly I want to watch the movie Brazil again, which features this song during the fantasy sequence towards the end as I recall.

  • @1Doz It is a great tune... love the rhythm, fun to play. Thanks for listening to my music :)

  • Very nice! Thanks!

  • @aknabea Thankyou for listening :)

  • Really great version!

Best wishes from a non-professional who only plunks with auto rhythm, three manuals and split keyboards.

  • @KeybOrgel Thanks for your kind comment, and good luck with your own Happy Music !

    Thankyou for listening.

  • Nice Job.Didnt you also play for Wersi?

  • @Tonewheeldude Hi, thanks for listening, and for your kind comment. No, not Wersi... I started with Baldwin (USA & UK), then several years as Hohner's European concert man, followed by a short spell with Lowrey Organs. Had a great time on the way and met some really nice people on my musical journeys.

  • Who needs auto rhythm? The professionals don't.

Who needs three manuals? The professionals don't.

Who needs split keyboards? The professionals don't.

    Your the Pro man.

  • @cinema104 Thank you so much, Tom. I love to keep music... Live !! And I really appreciate your kind comment.

  • Awesome, 5 Stars! I want my version of BRazil to sound this way someday...

But can you tell me what that silver bar with the rollers on the front panel do?

    THankyou again

  • @irie1tes Thank you very much for your kind comments, and good luck with your own playing.

The roller bar on the front panel, creates an "Auto-Arpeggio" (a harp-like run) by holding down a chord on the lower keyboard and running your thumb along the bar. The chord notes are split up to sound individually, in a two octave run.

    Thanks for listening.

  • Fantastic! Great vibe! Great playing!

Great suit! Great day in the morning!!!!!!!

That's what I wanna' be when I grow up!

  • @yugrube

Hey, Thanks very much for your kind comments. I really appreciate this.

  • Thanks for happy music!

    Nice playing - nice music!

  • @GOODLUCKPROM

Thank you very much. It has been my pleasure to share "Happy Music!" with friendly people for many years now. I appreciate your kind comment.

  • This guy dresses nicely for playin in his living room.

  • Thanks... I was dressed, ready to go on to a 'gig' - but called in to visit some friends (who owned the Hammond X77) and played a couple of numbers, in exchange for tea, biccies and a bit of cake.
