How would you compare your overall experience please, cochlear vs hearing aid in general... for example, do you find the extra weight worth the less squeal of a tinyier device? What are some advantages and disadvantages please? I have a friend who might be between both soon. Thanks!

@Jtronique CI for sure. The in the ear hearing aids hurt my ears, but now I don't always have to push the ear piece back in and the sound quality is amazing. :)

had you been completely deaf beforehand? was this your first time hearing?

I had been able to hear with a hearing aid in that ear up until March of 2007, when I suddenly lost it all. I was almost completely deaf between March '07 and November '07.
In this video, I already had one CI (implanted Sept. '06) but I don't hear sounds with it...I feel them. It was such a surprise to hear the sounds because I had never had that experience before! :)
