  • Being a cyclist, I have: much better defined, longer, leaner and stronger calves than that guy. It took a lot more than seven seconds a week, all he did was build ball shaped calves that have little definition and no strength. Like I said he's just trying to get size without any consideration for strength or athletic ability. Were did I say I wanted huge thighs with little chicken legs (that comment you made is an oxymoron).

  • This is dumb. To say "seven" like it's a magic number for perfect training is ridiculous; it's completely arbitrary. Here are the facts: calf size is mostly determined by genetics; you can improve them with hard work, but most people with really big calves don't have to work hard for them, while many with small calves can work very hard and won't change them much. As for sets and reps, people will debate endlessly, but if you work hard, get good rest and nutrition, almost any routine will work.

  • I've read that 75% of your calves are made out of Soleus muscle, so I really wonder why most advices are about standing calf raises. If you wanna train the soleus which is about 75% of the total calf mass, you want to do sitting calf raises, which all the fitness guru's almost ignore, because all these gyms don't have the machines for it (in fact you don't need a machine, but that's another story). Pretty disappointing.

  • Doing calf raises with only bodyweight will not get you anywhere if you want to gain calf size imo. Many people already have problems getting bigger calves with heavy weight. Gaining calf size with only bodyweight is even harder, if not impossible. It's just too damn easy and will not stress your muscles.

  • Remember that the most important variable is lowering weight slowly. If you move more slowly... you don't have to do as many, as time under tension is similar to higher and faster rep sets.

    Not true for any of those. Strict form, extended contractions and a lot of weight (being able to control your legs slowly up and down while at a dead hang) are the best way to built abs, even if you do just a few reps and a few sets. For traps, explosive power, and holding the flexed position for a second, for 10 reps, will build them much faster than simply shrugging really fast 15 times.
