  • he was a child sent to prison at 12 years old in 1928. Can you or I imagine that? WTF could you imagine happenning to a 12 year old child? Wonder what the jury looked liked?

dam right.... Howling like a WOLF and lived to sing about it!!!!!

  • he was a child sent to prison at 12 years old in 1928. Can you or I imagine that? WTF could you imagine happenning to a 12 year old child?

  • he was only 12 years old.

  • back in 1928, he was accused and convicted of stealing a mule....did 14 years of hard labor at Angola Prison. Howling like a wolf!!!! I respect this MAN. He sings what he knows....14 years!!!!! No one should have been stroked like that...

  • when I listen to this song all I can think about is Nathan moisturising O.o

  • briliant

  • I'm 16 and i love this music... that's what i need in the sunday's evening...

  • Sounds different than all the other versions i've heard, but in a excellent way, that is! Wolf's voice is unreal, as always.

  • Brushnumber is right - this definitely sounds too fast. And this is relative to my tape, CD and vinyl versions of the same track...

  • I'm just offering something here...I remember this song being just a lil slower. Maybe I'm wrong, but it never hurts to time your rpm's.~ So..where is "Vanuatu"? ~ Are you really a 'cheap whore'..... or a 'really cheap whore'? ~ What's are 'trakkies and baggies'? ~ How cheap are you? ~I have so many questions for you and your twat!! ~ Can you be identified as having a "gender status"? - If it's not too much effort... please describe in detail how much la Cost for your twat? Muchos Gracias!

  • @bigredlover77 wtf am I reading

    o.O

  • sweet thanx!!

  • The time of good black music..

  • @wonderouswonderloo Lets be color blind here. Anyone can have the blues in their heart. Anyone can "rap." Probably the most popular rapper, is... WHITE!

  • @upgrader99 ohh no hunnie the most popular rapper is black..which is lil wayne

  • I,m aware of that stuff as well, blusican. That stuff is all a part of that life. He was a steel worker,so we were both foundrymen. th "innuendos" are just the flip side. I came out of the ghetto too.

  • Awesome music. Howlin Wolf will never die as long as we appreciate good music.

  • classic blues

  • I worked in the foundry in Cleveland,OH,so I know all about what smokestack lightinin is. Hot dirty job,& wolf captures the poor mans' plight of workin too hard just tryin to catch up. Good song, even the guitar riff seems more modern than old fashioned. Good stuff.

  • @unionrdr Not to be rude but this song (like many blues tunes) is laced with sexual innuendo and male/female relationship issues. The way he's "crying" to his woman for a "ride" and her responding (chiding, "little bitty boy"), I believe it's about a bit more than Midwest industrial workers/conditions.

  • i would have sex with that vinyl... :-)

  • Brothers and sisters! Can we please not argue! Let's just enjoy the music!

  • i hate little fuckin puffs like this twat underneath. so fuck mate get a life and enjoy the vid.. pfft prick

  • YES, this is what we called R&B, this is 1 of my prized 45's, along with Dimples by John Lee Hooker & (you got me) Dizzy by Jimmy Reed THEY make an interesting dance-able mix

  • Muito bom!!!!

  • That's the sound i like, niity gritty, raw, and unrefined. The best, the best! thank ya for postin such a rareity.

  • YUP YOU GO BRO!!!!!!!!

  • He was played by Johnny Otis in the middle 50's, and he was special, to us. Once you get throught the name, it's song heaven.

  • I had fun growing up in MS off Highway 61, 448, 49 through the lower MS Delta. What childhood memories..and the music, food and people...Man! I missed those day as a kid.

    Retired USN

  • @deltadude61 I have never been but my father is from MS and my families land is there. Collins county

  • @jesesiordia

    ditto

  • @honkyxadonis Why the hating on Elvis? He didn't do anything to Howlin' Wolf's greatness in any way

  • @Princeboy99 this was a long time ago but i assume i was replying to someone

  • @honkyxadonis I think he had a credit on 'Teddy Bear'.

  • i know it;) i hate elvis he also stole songs from muddy waters and little walter

  • I love this - Thank U Howlin Wolf!

  • actually Wolf's greatest hits was like my third CD ever owned.

  • im 20, and he taught me how to play harmonica (And paul butterfield (a bit of S.B. williamson)

  • 5* from South Badenia.

  • i am 12 and ilove this music

  • @SeniorBoobies someone said the youth of these days dont listen this music so thats why i said im twelve blablabla

  • That was uncalled for, the child was simply making a statement that some kids do recognize good music when they hear it.

  • music artist today are missing soul.. you can just hear it in wolf voice. you feel the music.

  • money ruins everything, sports fell victim the same way music did

  • how many young people ever heard of this man this is a true blues singer

  • i have

  • I have and I'm only 24 my Grandfather kept me up on old country good music like this. He past away 5 years ago but he use 2 play this on his old record player. allot of young people my age only know the song from the movie Cadillac records. I know it fm my grandaddy!

  • Not country music, this is Chicago/Delta blues!!!

  • You need to watch "Cadillac Records". I've been listening to this stuff since before I could talk, and that movie blew me away. Leonard Chess, Muddy, Little Walter, Wolf, Etta, Chuck Berry... it's all there. A criminally unnoticed movie.

  • sorry but your turntable is runing just a little too fast shaving off about 9 seconds . yes really .

  • maybe urs is too slow!!!! duh

  • Nah, he's right. The pitch is way off.

Check watch?v=iuM01ilL-U8 for how it's supposed to sound.

  • yep, it's running a 1/2 step too fast

it's supposed to be in the key of E, not F

Does your turntable have a stroboscope?

Does it have a speed control?

  • @Brushnumber1

turntable fast or slow, still the BEST blues song ever!

  • Comment removed

  • Your words of anger and venom don't phase me. I'm a man, honey.

  • The guy said "pure evil" cos that was one of the great Wolf's favourite phrases. All Howlin wolf fans know this.

  • Omg im so sorry guy, I had no idea wtf I was talking about, and then actually called myself "defending" something. lol Woops.

  • holy crap, i need that.

  • My God.

  • to "jackjls": i just bought a copy of this version on cd from the internet; i can't stop repeating it! You gotta get a copy for yourself.

  • jackjls - if you think you can do better, put up or shut up.

  • copyright is such a bullshit. music is not about making money. if a band or a artist is good they will sell records anyway. but today most music is about marketing and not about music.

  • is this really the best fucking version of this song on youtube?! is there some copyright thing preventing someone from getting a better version up? maybe one that isn't through a video camera...

  • correct there is copyright restrictions on all emi bmg music on here now.

  • And that sucks.

  • @Cheapbeatlewhore It sounds freaking awesome!

  • dude its off vynal. appreciate it.

  • @jackjls Get a job and then when you get paid you can goto the music store to buy your own cd or record !

  • @jackjls Get a job and then when you get paid you can goto the music store to buy your own cd or record ! That will definitly sound just like this because its 60 + years old. MORON !!!

  • Ill Second that- thanks Cheapbeetlewhore

  • This song and all of those by the mighty Wolf were born out of hard hard hard hard unimaginable times, and can never come back unless those times return ( over to you Bilderburgers)

Many thanks for posting one helluva song from one helluva guy !!

  • THE BEST

  • They don't call him the Wolf for nothin!

  • the wolf!!!!!

  • Zeppelin use to cover this song live in their early days as the intro for Killing Floor

  • SO great!!

  • the best....much thanks to groups like the Stones, Yardbirds, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, the Animals, etc., all those great British bands who loved Howlin' Wolf and all his contemporaries, and introduced this great music back to American audiences via their cover versions. But....the originals are infinitely better as this shows. I wish Wolf, Muddy, and the others had gotten the rewards they deserved, the fame...and not the English boys...there's no comparing this with any cover!!!!

  • And the guy (Eamonn?) that played him in the movie deserves an award

  • Yes, Eamonn Walker, in "Cadillac Records." One scary BAMF, the way he played Wolf.

  • My mother played all of his albums, as well as Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Jimmy Reed, Lil Milton, too many to name and now she and they are gone and would have loved to see the bright light being shined on Blues with the movie. I just think it's great that the music's being reintroduced to an even younger generation

  • That is some mean, mean shit. People today are too fat and spoiled to do anything like this now. Maybe if we have a depression and a world war it'll come back but I don't know if people could survive those things now.

  • Oh, this is just great!

  • Who is uploading this stuff??? Younger people? Older people? I hope younger people as well as older folks. We can't allow this type of stuff to disappear beneath the pollution that people call music today.

  • HEY YOUNG AND OLD

  • tommylove79...I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!! We can't allow this type of stuff to disappear beneath the pollution that people call music today.

  • well i'm 17 and i love howlin wolf, so i guess some must be young

  • immense

  • thanks for uploading this take.

it's a long time since i first heard this (my favorite) recording of the song.

    so crisp, and so smooth

  • man I just love this! I just find myself coming bak all the time to hear it.

    Thanks for the upload.

  • awesome vocal man so much passion!

  • This is the best version...WOW...

  • dude how did u get this version??!?!!? what album is it on, if it is even on an album? i have to know, its so badass. howlin wolf was, is and always will be the best

  • its just the normal uk orig 45 issued on pye. cost abt £25 for a decent copy

  • Scariest blues vocal ever.

  • Wish more folks that "cover" this song, or even some people who sing with Hubert Sumlin would PLEASE listen to this and learn from it.........

  • best version by far

  • YES!!! This is my favorite version of this song. I wish there was a video (on stage or in studio) available of him howling wide open like in this recording.

  • First heard this when it was backing to a beer advert on English TV, Budweiser maybe. Sounded great then, still does.

  • song gives me chills...everytime i hear him cryin......

  • So cool, words, music pasion.

  • it is the mark of true passion

  • best version of the song

  • I agree, best version!

  • Funny how my grandpa, and other men who migrated from the south have the same thing in common, hooch, women, and the blues music. It was like a combination pack type style, like these things all went together for many many of the black men I know, family, friends, and otherwise. I guess it's comparable to rap music and videos hoochies and weed, right? Or rock n roll in the 70's, with groupies and acid or LSD, right? Just a thought/idea/observation.

  • When I was young, I used to think Motown was the historic music to salute, and my grandfather who's from North Carolina used to say, "shut up, you don't know good music, then he'd flip in a tape of Muddy Waters or Little Walter or Howlin Wolfe, John Booker, etc. and my eyes would cross because, hey, when you're young you're young. But now that i'm older and have a better ear for fine arts, I appreciate and LOVE this music. Too bad my grandpa isn't alive to join me in listening; life.

  • EXCELLENT!!

  • It sounds like he is actually howling at the moon.

  • I agree. It does sound like he is howling at the moon indeed. What a great talent! Its amazing how many artist have sampled this song! Didnt know it was originally recorded by him until I checked out the movie Cadillac Records. Im young and just trying to educate myself about great artist like this.

  • Genius...who is like the Wolf? This kind of soul can be heard in synagogues throughout the world and down through the ages, courtesy of great cantors. Wolf is a secular cantor.
