  • Alan Merrill just toured the UK in November 2011 and played this and a lot of other Arrows songs, a 22 song set. He also brought in the new year with "I love rock n roll" at a concert in New York City where he played for three hours from 9:30PM-12:30AM.

  • Really like this version, does anyone else think the intro (instrumentally at least) sounds like something Weezer would do? Way ahead of their time

  • Fab!

  • Arrows lead vocalist Alan Merrill did this song and also some of his Japanese language hits on August 12th 2010 at the Club Crocodile in Hara Jyuku Tokyo. He had two encores and the show was great. He still loves rock n roll, that's for sure!!

  • @tsunamisasumi There are a lot of photos and vidclips coming form that trip, I'm sure.

  • @tsunamisasumi Arrows singer Alan is going back to Japan this November 2010 for a series of concerts in Tokyo and Yokohama. He's been doing lots of shows in his hometown New York recently. he was in Germany performing on TV a few months ago too.

  • @wexiflex The shows in Yokohama last week end were amazing!

  • BEST version of ALL TIME!

  • Great post!!

  • I know The Arrows toured with Suzi Quatro, but did she ever do this song live or on record?

  • @ladycsummers Yes, the Arrows wrote, recorded and released the original version in 1975 and played it on the RAK Rocks Britain tour with Suzi Quatro that year. There are rumours that Suzi and Lenny Tucky sang choruses on an Arrows version, but to answer you question, Suzi has never recorded her own version of this song.

  • In a word, GREAT!

  • thanks because now i finaly know who arriginally played it.

  • Arrows Alan will be in performing this song and others at Duo Music Exchange Shibuya on January 25th 2010 in Tokyo Japan.

  • The photos from the show are on his website.

  • He did it. and it was great!

  • I knew Alan through my friend who is a music writer and a good friend of mine.I heard a lot about you and I finally be able to take a look at what you look like.

I love,I LOVE ROCK'N ROLL and Vodca Collins as well.thanks for a good music and really thanks for your uploads.

    greetings from Tokyo.

  • yeah im sure suzi quatro did a real good cover too. this is well good, love the heavey bass line

  • Curious, did Suzi actually cover this song?

  • I haven't heard her version.

  • There are many many covers of this song.

Arrows wrote and recorded the first version. Joan Jett's was the first cover version of "I love rock and roll" that I know of. Who's Alex Gaudino? It must be a new cover.

  • @wexiflex Alex Gaudino is a popular disco dance mash artist. There's a new version by L'arc en Ciel, a famous Japanese band. Miley Cyrus has done it too, it's going to be on her Wonderworld tour DVD.

  • too bad alex-fucking-gaudino stole this awesome song..

  • Hmm.. "covered" not "stole"- The Arrows make money from that version too.

  • Alan Merrill sang this song and a bunch of others in New York's Greenwich Village last night at Kenny's on Bleeker street with the Jon Paris group. He rocked the house! Steve Holley ex of McCartney's Wings was on drums!

  • Arrows singer Alan Merrill is doing live solo acoustic shows all over New York City. He has another one on July 20th. It's on his website.

  • The show was cool, downtown at Ottos on 14 st. He did a good mix of songs.

  • is alan merrill dead ??

  • No, but the Arrows drummer Paul Varley died last summer in June 2008. Alan Merrill just performed a solo acoustic show in last week in Greenwich Village, New York City. He has a website that is easy to find on any search engine with current tour dates and appearances.

  • Hahahaha! What made you think that? He's making a new album, writing a book and doing live performances. Some recent solo shows are even on youtube.

  • No ,the drummer Paul Varley is. He died of pneumonia.

  • awesome i luv rockn roll

  • Great stuff!

  • I really like the band cartoon images at the beginning of the clip. Great song!

  • did joan jett also cover roadrunner?

  • "Roadrunner" is a song written by Jonathan Richman and recorded in various versions by Richman and his band, in most cases credited as The Modern Lovers.

  • Yes, she covered roadrunner, I love rock n roll and many other songs.

  • man I thought than joans version was the original, but this version is 10 000 times better !!!!!!! arrows rock !

  • This is the best, although Joans version is real good also.

  • I never realised that Arrows wrote this track.

    Its a classic hit.

I love the Alvin Stardust version.

  • I just saw the Alvin Stardust version of "I love rock n roll on youtube . It's great!

  • omg , the singer's looks doesn't fit with his voice at all xD

  • If this makes you think that then have a look at him sing "Once Upon A Time" with Arrows on youtube. He has a cupie face and a macho voice. As you say, a strange fit of looks and voice.

  • The last post should have said: 'he sings really well and is pretty!' lol!

  • Its a great song ... I really thought that the original was from Joan Jett but This is also great!! He sing is pretty well... i love this version... :) I´´m glad i found out about it!!

  • No, these guys wrote it and released the first version in 1975, years before Joan Jett and the Blackhearts 1982 hit cover.

  • i will post a vid of me play this on some speakers with my moms 200 watt stereo hooked up to it.

i used 150 watt pioneer speaker i found while dumpster diving

  • I used to watch The Arrows Programme when I was 12 'cos Granada was a northern English tv station. Used to rush home from school. Their song and the best version ever.

  • best song!britney's version..ew....

  • This was tlast breath of glam in Britain in the seventies! Next was punk era.

  • indeed

  • Original is the best!!

  • U guys r annoying who think they know something bout music, this is the very original version, joan made it after these guys.....

  • not to sound gay, but I bet that lead singer got laid a lot

  • He has three kids so at least three times for sure:)

    Sorry! LOL!

  • Great band, great song, great era.

  • In the December 17th '08 issue of Rolling Stone & Joan Jett is interviewed, about she discusses the band Arrows and her covering "I love rock n roll."

  • Power-pop-rock to the max!

  • Last message. Cryptic. Five dollars? Foot long? Wot?

  • Dis is da good shit Brittny go do what you always do "five dollars five dollars five dollars a foot long"

  • Vintage Arrows, yes. This clip was made 33 years ago in fact!

  • Fuck you Britney! You are a sad pop/pornstar! This is the shit!

  • Vintage Arrows!

  • It ROCKS. Go to bed, Britney !!!

  • Britney's OK. At least she liked this song enough to record it, whether you like her version or not, she likes a good song!

  • I love the 70s graphics at the start:) They were a great band!

  • Great song! First time I heard the original actually, but it's just as good as the Joan Jett cover (which I heard first and is used to ;) )

It also drives home that Britney's version is, well, bad.

She's done some good songs, but they way she sings it just doesn't fit.

All the attitude is put in the video and none in the voice...

  • 1975

  • is this the orginal?

i think this is older and joan jett

  • Yes, Arrows released their version in 1975, Joan Jett 1981. Arrows wrote it.

  • This song ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • & owner$hip too! LOL

  • pwnage

  • CLASSIC!!!!

  • I LOVE ROCK 'N' ROLL!!!!!!

  • Heather! You're right. Joan Jett would fit right into this band. She really looks like an Arrows band member. Nice call.
