The Long Beach Press-Telegram did a nice article on Stacey Nelson and how she's playing this year in Japan. So law school is on hold for Stacey this year. I hope she does well in Japan.

I hope Ms. Nelson enjoys her season there and gets to play on the U.S. national softball team this year even though she's an alternate at the moment. I also think Stacey still wants to go to Africa this year as well. She's going to have a tight schedule to do all she wants but I hope she can.

I found out that Stacey Nelson is an alernate on the 2010 U.S. national softball team. I hope she can earn her way back onto the team this year as more than just an alternate. Stacey's ERA on last years national team was an excellent 0.61 so that should have left a good impression on the national team coaches. I also learnedt that Stacey will also be playing professional softball in Japan this year. Good luck to her with that.

Ahh yes i almost forgot about that. She's actually not the only one to be on last years team and then an alternate this year, Jenae Leles, Britney Rogers were as well. And that's awesome that she's playing professionally in Japan, I've always wondered how the softball scene is over there. How is Stacey Nelson not even invited to tryouts for the 2010 U.S. softball World Championship team after making the World Cup team last year and performing capably as a rookie? I don't get it. Stacey fit last years team like a glove and she was throwing 69 and 70mph during the 2009 WCWS so I don't want to hear that Nelson doesn't throw hard enough. Eileen Canney is good and throws very hard but it's hard to believe she will make the 2010 team ahead of Stacey.

Well if you remember back to last year's KFC World Cup and College World she was throwing way more WP then someone of her level should be. I thought she was amazing, but she was inconsistent. I believe she was relieved during the KFC games too. I think that may have been what hurt her this year.

The World Cup of Softball was last summer. While Stacey was a bit wild she was still hard to hit as always. Also they haven't even had the tryouts yet for the 2010 World Championship team, have they? How can Stacey not even have been invited to that? It's insulting to be honest. She should be able to show her improvement for this year. Team USA's 2best pitchers are Abbott and Finch so to fret over the fourth pitcher is not necessary. And Nelson is a great teammate too.

The Japan Cup is over and the USA defeated Japan in the championship game behind a great pitched game by Jennie Finch who keeps proving she the best American softball pitcher. Stacey Nelson pitched a complete game against Japan in the final round robin game giving up 1 run and 5 hits in 7 innings while striking out 4. Nelson did fine pitching on her first 2 international teams this summer. I hope she enjoyed the experience and travel. Now its almost time for law school for Stacey. ;)

LeapinLizard, I agree wtih you that the 2009 WCWS was great! :) I actually enjoyed it more than the over hyped March madness NCAA men's basketball tournament. Clutch hitting including game winning grand slams combined with some tough pitching made for a stellar World Series. The only thing that was missing was a third and deciding game for the NCAA title between Washington and Florida. I only wish that after college softball players had a viable WNBA like league to join and play as pro's.

i was at the world cup last weekend. i don't know if you are familiar with the way they do autograph sessions: you line up behind a player's name on the outfield fence and they'll sign reaching over the fence. this year stacey was the only one to actually jump over the fence to be on the same side as the fans. security approached her twice but she stayed on our side. she was also the first person and the last person to leave the field after autographs, even after finch and osterman. major props.

Easy on the negativity in here it's unecessary. Stacey and Jennie are both attractive but more importantly they are credits to softball and women's sports. Jennie is more glam than Stacey is as far as style goes. As far as pitching goes Stacey pitched very well during the recent Canada Cup and World Cup of Softball. This was Nelson's first time on the international softball team and she had a great time. :) But from what I could see on television Finch is still the best picher team USA.

The United States defeated Canada 3-2 in the champiosnhip game of the 2009 Canada Cup tournament. In the tournament Stacey Nelson went 2-0 and even got an at bat in one game grounding into a force play. I hope playing for the national team has helped heal the hurt for Stacey after beaing beaten by Washington in the 2009 softball national championship. And it was nice to see Ashley Charters get a big triple off her former University of Washington teammate Daniellle Lawrie in a USA/Canada game.

Adrastos64, Tim Tebow and Danielle Lawrie don't sign every autograph and karma for not doing so has not hit them. I don't buy your story about Stacey not signing an autograph for an 8 year old girl. Especially if Nelson had the time to do so and made eye contact with the girl. Nelson signs more autographs at UF than any athlete other than Tim Tebow. There might have been a miscommunication between Stacey and the girl or the girls parent at the game because it's Nelson's nature to give.

Starlmo, we know Danielle Lawrie is a better hitter than Stacey Nelson is. ;) Both pitchers were brilliant this year. This year you can say Danielle gets the edge as a pitcher because she beat Stacey and the Gators all 3 times they played. But the truth is Lawrie had an easier time pitching against the Gators lineup than Nelson did pitching against the Huskies lineup with all those good lefthanded hitters and their great team speed. In the end the Huskies lineup made the difference.

Don't be making excuses - DL outpitched every other pitcher in college! She out hit every other #1 pitcher! And she pitched every inning for three weeks when it counted (without any losses)!!

Stacey had a good run, but came up short in the finals! DL has been to the CWS before and knew what it took!

Lastly, Stacey came in with the #1 ranking - the series was hers to lose.

What excuses 2d? I've given Danielle Lawrie and Washington credit all along. I actually predicted them to beat Flroida in 3 games in the championship series because I thought they matched up well with the Gators.  They did. And their lineup led by a great hitter in Ashley Charters and their excellent team speed took it's toll on Florida as did Lawrie's outstanding pitching. And Lawrie got 2 clutch singles off of Nelson in game 2 that made a big difference in the game. Well done to Danielle.

There is something nice about college softball compared to college basketball and college football which are multi billion dollar a year businesses and have that big business feel to it. There is something nicer about college softball. The kids are modest and college softball almost has a wholesome appeal to it. I'm rooting for the classy University of Florida to take home the college softball national championship in 2009. They and their gem of a senior pitcher Stacey Nelson deserve it.
