@Lonnieable Please get your facts right. Bettas live in rice paddies (which can be as big as two miles and knee deep) and streams in East Asia, not just Japan. Also, only male bettas attack each other. Females are fine together.

@jamespolky With this same logic, you'd think you'd be able to keep community fish in the tiny bags they give you for the rest of their lives too. But no. Fish are all the same, they all need room to swim. Betta's just tend to be a bit more hardy, so the fish store is able to keep them in the small containers for longer. But it's a general rule to have one gallon of water per inch of fish. Betta's can grow up to four or so inches, so AT LEAST two gallons is needed to not be incredibly cruel.
Obviously the tank isnt too small for a betta, as they are naturally from rice fields and can live in like a cup of water, and they also go out of the water, and just splash it on themselves in the wild :P So yeah, not small at all. And its not like he starved or agitated the betta so that they would attack each other. So putting them together aint that bad. They can usually live together ok in bigger community tanks :P not smaller ones, but he said it was for just a min. Give him some slack...
@95beer that is a common misconception about betta. Yes, they live in the rice fields. Have you ever SEEN a rice field? About 6 inches deep, but MILES wide. Not a small puddle of stagnant water at all.
Calm down everyone it was only for one minute and they were being watched,clearly they were not agressive to one another and there both very beautiful betta's they clearly were not fighting or anything.
I do hate the idea of small tanks. I wish people would stop buying them. Alas, even I have a betta in a 1.8 gallon right now. I just love having bettas but can't afford the space of multiple huge tanks. I have kept males together before without any problems. It takes a while to be sure that they have stopped showing aggression to one another, and even then, it is a risk. Luckily it worked out for me.

i think ppl just have their own estimation of how much water a betta fish needs....betta fish compared with most other fish does not require a large quantity of water...it can survive fine in about 1gallon or even less... in fact, i have a 1/2g bowl n i have my betta living in their for about two years now...anything smaller i wouldnt reocmmend but as long as u take care of it well n have like weekly water changes, feed em properly n keep em in a good/healthy environment...they'll do just fine!!

Everyone needs to relax, It is perfectly fine to have 2 MALE bettas in the same tanks; As long as they get along. Yes this tank is a bit to small but no need for hurtful comments. I have 9 male bettas in 1 gallon bowls and they all are perfectly fine, I change the water every 3 or 4 days but it's not to horrible!

@MrWthisthis100 bettas do not need atleast 5, granted that is a good size i have two males in their own 5 gal, but i also have a male in a 1.5 gal and a 1 gal. and they are doing great. as long as you maintain water quality they should be fine, I test my water often so I am able to maintain the best water quality and my fish are active and healthy. Also they even said they do not live in that container.

@jamespolky With this same logic, you'd think you'd be able to keep community fish in the tiny bags they give you for the rest of their lives too. But no. Fish are all the same, they all need room to swim. Betta's just tend to be a bit more hardy, so the fish store is able to keep them in the small containers for longer. But it's a general rule to have one gallon of water per inch of fish. Betta's can grow up to four or so inches, so AT LEAST two gallons is needed to not be incredibly cruel.

Obviously the tank isnt too small for a betta, as they are naturally from rice fields and can live in like a cup of water, and they also go out of the water, and just splash it on themselves in the wild :P So yeah, not small at all. And its not like he starved or agitated the betta so that they would attack each other. So putting them together aint that bad. They can usually live together ok in bigger community tanks :P not smaller ones, but he said it was for just a min. Give him some slack...

@95beer that is a common misconception about betta. Yes, they live in the rice fields. Have you ever SEEN a rice field? About 6 inches deep, but MILES wide. Not a small puddle of stagnant water at all.

I do hate the idea of small tanks. I wish people would stop buying them. Alas, even I have a betta in a 1.8 gallon right now. I just love having bettas but can't afford the space of multiple huge tanks. I have kept males together before without any problems. It takes a while to be sure that they have stopped showing aggression to one another, and even then, it is a risk. Luckily it worked out for me.

@PetaPanPipes he doesn't know what he is talking about. The bigger the tank, the more you can see a bettas personality come out. They aren't sitting at the bottom of the tank, or listless, the bigger the tank the more exciting to watch, the more happier the betta is, and the less water changes you have to do, win for all. People who say no bettas like small tanks are the people who only ever kept their betta in a small tank, and don't want to hear that it actually is happier in a better tank :)

i think ppl just have their own estimation of how much water a betta fish needs....betta fish compared with most other fish does not require a large quantity of water...it can survive fine in about 1gallon or even less... in fact, i have a 1/2g bowl n i have my betta living in their for about two years now...anything smaller i wouldnt reocmmend but as long as u take care of it well n have like weekly water changes, feed em properly n keep em in a good/healthy environment...they'll do just fine!!

I would suggest at least a five gallon for both of them to live together. I mean, even a one gallon is too small for ONE beta. At least give them more space and upgrade to a five gallon. For the fish. :)

Everyone needs to relax, It is perfectly fine to have 2 MALE bettas in the same tanks; As long as they get along. Yes this tank is a bit to small but no need for hurtful comments. I have 9 male bettas in 1 gallon bowls and they all are perfectly fine, I change the water every 3 or 4 days but it's not to horrible!

OK even if you wanted to film both these guys, couldnt't you at least put their tanks next to eachother?! Well yeah obviously you could because these tanks are TINY my betta fish is about to get a 20g tank by itself and I would still feel bad that its stuck in a tank! Also look at this video from 0:15 to 0:23... They're stressed and hes chasing a neon tetra!

I had 1 beta in a 1 gallon tank for a year and a half!! The only reason it died is because i put a ring in as decoration and he swam by it and cut himself! They are fish....they adapt!

@JessicaMc777 Haha, no. How would you like to stay in a 6ft box for your entire life? And you cant fit heaters into a 1g so I'm presuming your fish suffered for a long year and a half in cold water. The fish suffer long, they might look happy and act happy according to a blog site etc, but really they aren't happy to their full potential. If you can only have a 1 gallon tank then you may as well not even bother with having a fish or trying. And, I dont think saying 'they are just fish' is stupid

This box is 0.5 Gallons and costs around $15 because it is "designer", meanwhile you could easily get a nice 3 gallon tank for $20 or less. Also, no offense as I am sorry for your loss, but if kept properly bettas live for 3 years on average. Yes, they can adapt but don't force them to adapt because of your laziness.

@MrWthisthis100 bettas do not need atleast 5, granted that is a good size i have two males in their own 5 gal, but i also have a male in a 1.5 gal and a 1 gal. and they are doing great. as long as you maintain water quality they should be fine, I test my water often so I am able to maintain the best water quality and my fish are active and healthy. Also they even said they do not live in that container.
