Exemplary footage, DuneRatt! I'm the proud owner of an '88 Fourtrax 250R (bought it when I was 21). I just took it out for the first time since '98 (when I was 31) to Ocotillo Wells, CA. As for your footage, it's just as good as Crusty 1! I know, I shot a lot of vids in the 90's, and I know what a bitch it is to get the right shot! On my last desert trip (at the age of 41), I mounted a GoPro to my helmet to compliment said footage. I'm feeling the moto bug in middle age, and it's fucking nice!
Thanks, dude. You know it takes a lot of time to get the shots then. Yeah, I'm thinking really hard about getting a two wheel scoot. Could be a disaster at my age...hehehe.
Really? i would much rather have the paddle. its so much easier to get around. I guess i havent jumped big enough to notice the difference of the paddle.
I think a 125 would be ok with you on it. You will be able to get around but most two wheelers that want to climb out there get some sort of paddle or cross-over knobby. I'm still not sure what you will be able to climb. Probably ok on the middle dunes but Choke would be a tough one.
I weigh in around 235 and ride a KFX400 with an Athena bore up to 450 with an FMF can on the exhaust..with the HotCams. I run Skat Edge Extremes for skins. I'd still like a bit more power. You will find the 250 won't climb the big dunes or steep slopes quite like you would want it to, but it will probably get you around out there. At SA, more POWER, more FUN!!
Yeah, it sorta broadcasts your postion when you are coming over some hills and just makes you easier to see. There are still a lot of accidents, though.
Whip flags are required at places like SA and Glamis in order to "broadcast" your position behind a dune a little better to everyone. SA has a number of collisions every year.
are you kidding me I thought you were a mx rider you should know this you have to have a flag so it kind of broad casts your position to everyone else so they don't hit you
man, I'm from Canada. We don't have dune riding like this. I have 3 dirtbikes, my own motocross track, I have even gone in 5 races and I won 2 of them. I had to quit cause I moved to Japan 3 years ago. I am more of a trail and track rider, but I'd love to try the dunes someday. There are some small dunes near my house.
this vid is badass i love riden in the sand

nice vid but y dnt u see the quads go flying as much in vids anymore
quadkindaguy 3 years ago
stock for stock, quad suspension is inferior to bikes. These days you have to put 5 grand into suspension on a quad so it can take hits.

I wouldnt do it witout a paddle. but some guys swear by no paddle just so they can have better control in the air. i dont think it makes a difference
NuttzComp 3 years ago
i notice a big difference with control while in the air when using a paddle its not as good!

I think that you will have a hard time on the northern slopes of the middle dunes from Crapo's (Thunder) on down to the Gap to the west.

Lalann 3 years ago
It would depend on how much the rider weighs and I would, at the very least, get some sand paddle tires.
DuneRatt 3 years ago
Looks like a lot of fun. Could someone tell me how the St Anthony dunes compare to Winchester Bay Oregon sand dunes? thanks
016booker 4 years ago
oh man bro. (or chick) oregon are fun dunes, but you will NEVER get bored at st anthony. st anthony are by far the best. then glamis.
Dunindude 4 years ago

69dirtbikerguy69 4 years ago
They are required by the BLM on any vehicle on the dunes.
DuneRatt 4 years ago

kxryder1994 4 years ago
I ride a kfx400 quad that I bore kitted to a 450. Also got Hot Cams and a K&N. This summer I might get a KXF 450, though.
