  • There is nothing wrong with the drumming at all in my opinion. It has musicality is dynamic and tasteful. I would have been happy enough to have laid down that rhythm track myself. This single though is one of the "great uncharted" and its organ work is as haunting as a certain Procol Harum number. Strong vocals too. "Shy Limbs" are one of the great forgotten bands obviously.

  • Is the guy in the middle Lake?

  • j'adore le son de la batterie

  • lol, listening to the drummer trying to stay in sync... unsuccessfully.

  • @TheFearlessFreep maybe you're trying to hear, unsuccessfully.... syncopation homework for you!....mitch mitchell was a master at this. :)

  • @JamesOscar he's off a hair at breaks and changes. It doesn't occur in other songs by them, it was just a poor session for him IMO. Release standards were lower then, it's not really a criticism as much as observation.

  • Possibly the most wondrously pompous song ever! Pomposity rules!!!!!

  • Possibly the most wondrously pompous song ever!

  • Organ plus phasing is inspired. Love the way it ends.

  • Indubbiamente migliore della cover dei Profeti.

  • Those organ riffsare just magical!!!!!

  • Thoe organ riffsare just magical!!!!!

  • Remember this when it came out ~ can't remember but I think it was "Diddy" David Hamilton who gave it airplay on Radio 1. Thought it was one of the best records of '69'. Those were the days ~ Tony Blackburn and "Diddy" Hamilton ~ will never be equalled!

  • bellissima

  • I bought this when it came out, sometime later on, I left it in my car and it warped.

  • can you post Lady in Black?

  • @soundchaser0 What song are you talking about? Are you talking about the one by Uriah Heep? Who did the song you are talking about? If it is anything like this Shy Limbs song I want to find it to,thanks

  • alway liked this since i heard it on the circus days cd its amazeing a lost classic love the organ the end is very joe meek

  • I've only heard "Reputation" and "Love". The lead singer on "Love" is undoubtedly Greg Lake (he admits as much). However Lake definitely does not sing on "Reputation".

Interesting that Shy Limbs did a Procol Harum baroque knockoff at this late date. Les Fleurs de Lys came up with "Reflections of Charlie Brown" around the same time as "Whiter Shade of Pale". But by 1969 this style was passé. Shy Limbs might have had a hit. Unfortunately they missed the window of opportunity.

  • @pressovannye Yes,interesting,I can here "Whiter Shade Of Pale" in "Reflections Of Charles Brown" by Ruperts People but for this song I can hear "All The Young Dudes" by Mott The Hupel.Anyway,I just think it is a shame that everyone doesn't get to hear these lost songs.

  • Whoo hoo - I've just got the 2010 Record Collector Rare Record Price Guide to see that "Lady in Black", bought for 3/-6d (17.5 ence) circa 1969/70 is now worth twice as much as "Reputation" at 120 GBP. So it was Andy McCulloch on drums and Greg Lake that makes the single worth 60 GBP in the RC price guide. This song is pretty well perfect pop-psych and one of my all time favourites - somebody please put the B-side "Love" up here too.

  • I've always liked Andy McCulloch's drumming, first with King Crimson then Greenslade. He also played with Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come, but quit before they started recording. Usually he sticks close to the snare and hi-hat but "Reputation has him playing much more aggressively, hitting the floor tom more than once.

  • Absolutely brilliant single. I've never managed to get a copy of the actual 7 inch single but I've got the A-side on a psych CD compilation. I'd love to have the B-side "Love" which is just as good if I remember rightly. I've got the follow-up 7 inch single "Lady in Black". I think it's Carl Palmer on drums that whacks up the value of these singles so this one is unfortunately out of my reach now. Could have had it for 5GBP about 20 years ago,
