As an RVer, and retired Safety & Training Mgr for a large charter bus company, I think this was a poor excuse for a "how to drive" video. Swinging wide on a right turn without stressing the right mirror for the inevitable car passing on the right? Saying "my signal is on, everybody knows what I'm doing" is terrible defensive driving. "In my mirror everything is good" AFTER completing the turn is useless. All you'll see at that point is the damage you've caused by off-tracking into something.
wow thats so cool am buying a mine campervan with a bed and solar panel :D so i can travel like u but 1 problem i cant drive :( thats why i came to this video xD
I used to rent motorhomes to European travellers (brave soul, wasn't I?) and the BEST advice I ever gave them was to remember they were on vacation. No rush, let everyone else go first. Guy honking from behind you? Wave and shoot him a friendly smile (I know what kind of shooting some of you were thinking). Defensive driving.
Truck school confused the issue of the jug handle vs. button hook turn (swing out opposite as shown in video vs. using the oncoming lane of the road you intend to turn onto.) As cadilacjack mentions the situation will indicate what is best. If you have that RV waiting to make his turn from the road you wish to turn on to, and you have closely monitored the traffic around and behind you and have no vehicles traveling in your direction then the jug handle (swing out) may be best. Be safe always
I drove a 30 foot 30,000 lb truck for 7 years. One thing I learned is there are a lot of idiots on the road that should have never received a driver's license. Defensive driving is a must.
1:46 I thought you were going to make a left turn, then you "appear" to take two lanes and keep going. When you pass, not a little extra fuel you give, FULL THROTTLE it! Swinging into the other lane NOT a good idea, that's a LAST resort, you should have waited back and let that RV out, keep in mind if you pull up to close he won't be able to see whats coming in the other lane. If a strong gust of wind, or tire blew that wheel would whip right out of your hands always grip one hand on the wheel!
The one thing you should have mentioned when making that right hand turn is to watch your mirror on the right. Don't assume the car behind you is paying attention to your turn signal. I have seen cars try to pass you at that very moment.
As a seasoned tractor-trailer, motorcoach, and bus driver, I will tell you to be very careful on those right turns. People will pass you if you pull too much to the left before turning right. Sometimes if you need room it is better to let that other RV out first. Experience and time will tell, but keep your eye pegged on that right mirror when you turn rt. The rear wheels should almost hug that curb on your turn, leaving no room for someone else to pass.
I have a class A motor home.. 40foot..not easy turning. first few times i accidently hit the curb and some1s car..but now i got the hang of it, its easy now.
Thank you
