MUCH better as in having Dan's lines omitted. KEEP Rorschach dying, LEAVE OUT Dan seeing it. HE NEVER SEES IT. I HATE that the film has Dan there seeing him blown up, it's awful and infuriated me/made me laugh at the film.
This is a MUCH better way to end the film man, I wish the film had Dan's lines of submission and defeat that were in the book.
The line in the film-
"You haven't idealized mankind you've deformed/mutilated it...Thats your legacy" sounds HORRIBLE and destroys (for audiences that havent read the book or understand the book) any form of moral ambiguity from Ror and Ozy's perspectives, and the film makes Ozy out to be some sort of villain where he in fact actually saved the world.
i still think Rorshach should have kicked adrians ass on the end even on the graphic novel, id probobly sleep better and night if it ended this way though lol
@Godzilla52 I would have liked to see him fight Dr. Manhattan 1 vs 1. Like Jon kicks his ass but Rorscachs shear determination lets him at least keep trying until manhattan tells him why he can't let him go and blows him up.
It was alright but still c'mon can u really say that the original ending wouldn't have worked on the big screen? It would have been beautiful just like I dreamt it would be...
It may have been, at that, but would the destruction of NY alone (by a giant squid, no less) really stop WWIII? Isn't it likely that America's enemies (in the context of the story) feel happy at the destruction of an American city?
The movie ending, where all suffer equally, is far more unifying, I think. The threat is global, so is the solution.
Still, it would have been cool if the squid ending were an extra on the DVD.
@genericmeatunit In the book the idea was to make everyone think we could come under attack by the squid alien thingies at any time, so we had to unify to be ready to fight, which is flawed anyways. I mean, they'd examine the fucking thing and find it's not alien
@genericmeatunit Both endings are awesome, and I think one works better on paper one on film. I also think you'd have needed a much longer movie to have prepared people for the Squid without it just sending the whole thing into incoherence and randomness. It was enough of a shock to see a big blue lynx by Adrian's side, lol. I'd have loved to see a giant squid monster on the big screen but narrative wise, much better this way.
Can someone tell me what is the song when dr.manhattan and roarschach go talk outside and then he explodes =(??? is freaking cool is u listen carefully
That's the point. The book is superhero satire. The squid is a comment on epic villain plots, and aliens often being used in comic books. The absurdity of Veidt's plot is an important part of what the book says about superheroes.
Aliens, however, are not often used in comic book MOVIES, and therefore would not feel relevent in a Watchmen movie. Which is one of the reasons it was a good change.
it was also zeidts master plan brought to life, in the movie its stupid peaple would think they were all going to die. it would be like the bucket list everywere.
@GlumPhoenix Actually I prefer the movies ending because I think its more realistic that mankind believes in an attack by dr manhattan than all of a sudden a giant and shortly after dead squid appeares. Not to mention the behavior a giant squid would show outside the water. It would be pretty easy for scientists to 1. locate the origin of the squid 2. classifie no serious threat from a creature that needs an H2O atmosphere to survive
@GlumPhoenix in addition...imagine a squid being teleported from that depth with such high pressure to another place....it would be dead the second it got there. So I think this ending is much more realistic. From the philosophic point of view I think both endings have the same meaning. Mankind will unite the moment something extraterrestrial would threaten us (well just for short).
@Karudu it wasn't a real squid. it was a robotic squid that they had been working on throughout the comic book story and ties into the story within the story.
While on one hand I agree, because in the movie it simply makes more sense and is more relevant to the story, the word 'realistic' can't exactly apply here and not to Dr. Manhattan.
hmm unrealistic well i dont remember the last time i saw any big blue men who could blow me up with his mind if your going to talk about unrealistic i want you to think of something is dr manhattan realistic?

@asurasyn they don't need to examine it... The press found Rorschach's journal.

True, but Adrian couldn't have known that. I meant that even if everything worked "Just as planned!' for Ozy it still wouldn't have worked.
