1b. Also be sure to use flux before soldering on the ribbon or you will get micro jumpers for sure. Thats bad, can short out panel.
4b. Test by plugging into car before you put it all back together.

Soldering is tricky.
1. tin pads first
2. line up ribbon by putting 12 gauge wire through ribbon holes and board
3. Just touch each pad with tip. Carefully
4. Wire up without putting front cover on, reset dials to correcct positions (zero in all cases).
5. Remove and put case back together and reinstall.
6. Done!

For all you DYIers out there. I just completed.
1. You must remove two #10 torx screws from back of shell to split case.
2. Use plastic shims (CD case works great) and screw driver to pry up and hold all clips on side and then it will come apart.
3. Turn needles Clockwise and pull up with fingers. They come out easily.
4. Nip white plastic on side dials so you do not have to remove.
3. Turn Metal tabs on LCD holders on back with needle nose to remove white plastic dial holders
