@cuteblondie1972, You're right about Jake acting like a smart ass in the restaurant. He was clearly pulling Sams chain. To me it seems 3:40 is the turning point of the whole movie. Up until then if you haven't seen the trailer, it seemed like Sam might be an okay guy. When he shoved Jake, it was a sign of things to come.

The first time I watched this movie I didn't like Jake's teacher, but every time since then I think he's great. Everyone (including the teacher) plays their part so well. Thanks to this movie I became a fan of Peter Weller.

starting at 2:17, look at Sam's eyes. The guy could end all wars, cure cancer, and snort a line of coke of Jake's mom's ass all in a matter of seconds. Man I tell you, I've seen that look in myslef and many others when I was snorting that shit as a youth.

@angelostallone I agree! Everybody likes blaming Sam for being a cokehead loser BUT jake was no sweet little angel either...he acted like a spoiled brat with his smart mouth attitude pissing off the guy every chance he had just because he was jealous of mommy having a new man.

@steveskin1 Like how they slowly build up on the dark side of the character, just gives you the chills, watching some of this.

@steveskin1 But people already knew Sam was bad from the previews and stuff. This movie (don't get me wrong, I liked it) would play better if someone watching it knew absolutely nothing about it beforehand. That way it's even possible that Sam could be okay and the kids be wrong about him.
