I have to wear one because of limbal stem cell failure. i wont take it out it hurts to much. so i go once amonth, and drs do it. i've had it on for 1.5yrs. my vision is better than it was.
I have been wearing scleral lenses for 4 months because of keratoconus. I cannot wear glasses or RGP or soft lenses. Fit is extremely important, otherwise you may have blurry vision and discomfort. My lenses were custom manufactured for my eyes by Boston Foundation for Sight.
@macdisciple what is the level of comfort? right I'm wearing soft contact lenses (40% vision), and my doctors recommeded scleral lenses (keratoconus patient too)
Dr.Schornack–Pg 2: Pts who begin to wear corneal lenses frequently say the sensation caused by the interaction between the lens and eyelids is quite noticeable, particularly when first wearing these smaller lenses. Scleral lenses are so large that they rest well beyond the edges of the eyelids, and so the sensation caused by the lens/lid interaction is minimal. Some initial awareness of scleral lenses is normal. However, patients tend to adapt very quickly to the feeling of the lens on the eye.
Dr. Schornack-Pg 1: Although one might expect that a larger lens would be even less comfortable than a traditional corneal (smaller) lens, the opposite is actually true for most patients. The cornea is highly sensitive tissue, and smaller lenses rest directly upon it. Scleral lenses don’t actually touch this sensitive corneal tissue. Instead, they rest upon the less-sensitive conjunctiva. Furthermore, the edge of the eyelid passes over the edge of smaller lenses with every blink.
These lenses have given me improved vision but sometimes they feel uncomfortable and the quality of vison is blurrey.I have been told by my optition to try to move them while on the eye to allow for tears and oxygen to get to the eyes surface.. I have only had them for a couple of monthsWhen they are good they are great but the soreness and inconsistant vision is concerning. Any ideas anyone.... THANKs
Get some hydrating eye drops and drop them in your eyes when the feel a bit uncomfortable. or drop a drop of it in your contact before putting it on your eye and youll have some of the solution between your contact and eye and it may be a little more comfortable for you.
i reallly want contacts and i can barley see anything without my glasses. i hate my glasses cuz their soo ugly and big. im scared because i wonder if the contacts will hurt when u put them in
naa i reccomend not 2 get, im the same age but still i think its bad because opticians say no n all the places ive been ( places like specsavers ) dont let you, but i suppose if yur in another country then they might let you but not here. ( england )
Yes, it's pretty hard to put them in the first time. I must admit, my eyes became red and I felt a little sick. It's easy to get them out. Just practice.
What I really want is to get the whites of my eyes whiter. Its like when I rub them or get something into then they scar and get brown. I know its because of melanin in the sclera but is there any way to get them clean and white?
