I think that Scotland has benefited massively from the United Kingdom.. Funny thing is I'd be totally happy with a Union with England but I don't see a Union. A Union implies equal parties who work with each other, not control. France didn't give up being France to be part of N.A.T.O, Holland don't give up their sovereignty to stay part of the E.U. Don't see why the four countries of the U.K should be any different.

The reason for the English government opposes this is FEAR. Under International Maritime law, the oil is Scottish. Scotland is quite capable of surviving on its own - it is the English economy that will suffer from Scottish Independence. Scotland has been subsidising England since 1707 and the time has come to reverse that process.
