E nun me mporta si ce muoru accisu...

    E s'iddu muoru e vaju mparadisu

  • Wow! That is one mighty voice!

  • che DIO ti benedica ....... sublime

  • Is this from some film? Amazing!

  • Che Turiddu rovente... Neanche un siculo nato avrebbe potuto farla meglio *______*

  • Where is this footage from?

  • im learning italian and know this is scicilian which sounds rather different, are the two really that different?

  • I PREFER DI STEFANO SINGING THIS ARIA

  • IMMENSO

  • This is from the 1952 film, "Melodie Immortali", and includes the Siciliana, the Drinking Song, and Turridu's farewell. I think the film is about Mascagni and Cavalleria (not sure). These clips along with many other beautiful moments are available on a VHS video from The Bel Canto Society, "Del Monaco, Singing Volcano". One of them from another film of the period, the aria, "Ah, Non Mi Ridestar" from Werther by Massenet, usually sung in French, is worth the price of the video.

  • This is from a movie that includes the opera performances. And yes, del Monaco in his prime was the best there was. The greatest Otello of all time.

    w3

  • It doesn't get any better. He is the greatest!

  • I don't know of any tenor who can sing the Siciliana like Del Monaco. I have an internet friend in Milan whose mother was an opera singer, and used to sing with him in his younger days. Her mother said that recordings can't even capture how marvelous his voice was, to hear in person.

  • @LeslieSoprano1960 A FRIEND OF MY FATHER IS 85 YEARS OLD AND SAW DEL MONACO LIVE OVER 60 TIMES AND ALSO SAID THAT HIS VOICE WAS MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL LIVE THAN ON RECORDS . HE ALSO SAID THAT HE WAS ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENOL.HE MENTIONED THIS 2 DAYS AGO WHEN I CALLED HIM FOR THE HOLIDAYS . THE LIVE PERFORMANCES ON YOU TUBE OF LA FORZA DEL DESTINO ARIAS ARE THE CLOSEST TO WHAT HE POSSIBLY REALLY SOUNDED LIKE IN PERSON . ENJOY

  • @sugarbist Unfortunately that is probably true. The most beautiful voices are diminished by electronic repro. Gina Colao Decker is one that should be heard in person to appreciate the beauty of her voice,. But the repro is not bad.

  • i would give anything to hear pavarotti sing this....ah...

    Does anybodie have it?

  • Giacomo How true I watch alot of operas on youtube and the old ones appear to be true to life and not a drive through like Mcdonalds. I love to watch these old guys sing they are out of this world.

  • Dizione Fiorentina e passione Siciliana, questo era Marione.

    Magnifica interpretazione!

  • @zs1968 sorry but he is not in tune.

  • Jose CUra, associated w/ Del Monaco...hmm...bad..bad..association.

Two different words, one authentic, the other getting faker and faker.

    Who's who? Please...too obvious.

  • Fabulous!

  • Which film is that from, please?

  • This is "Cavalleria Rusticana" di Mascagni, isn't a film.

  • Oh I see. Strange, it looks like taken from a film. Thank you anyway.

Geheimtipp: Fritz Wunderlichs deutsch gesungene Aufnahme.

  • isnt it funny that a guysinging like him today wouldn;t be accepted as a true opera singer.... opera now is so polished almost boring.... Thanks god for people like Mario del Monaco o Jose Cura.

  • @giacomolaurivolpi

He wouldn't be accepted, you say? I don't think so!

  • @Aetion Exactly. Nonsense. Mario del Monaco would be a big star today as he was in his own times.

  • @Pawelp He woulld probably be a bigger star

  • @sugarbism I agree!

  • Thanks Bposton for posting this jewel. A sample of the best dramatic tenor ever.

  • It doesn't get any better. He is the greatest!
