Through some 1930s-1940s technicolor film trailers, the technicolor shows blurry, crappy, poor dodged-and-burnt moving pictures, in which you can hardly see a thing and a color in most areas (almost like max fleischer's animated shorts). The trailer is in some way beautiful, but seeing the dinosaur part (w/ the crappy technicolor) of this trailer is SOOOO F(beeeeeeeep)ING TERRIFYING!!!
Don't let this trailer fool you, folks. Fantasia was a big disappointment at first. Lost a ton of money. And the distributor had such little faith in it that it played on the lower half of double bills. Ouch.
It wasn't really until the 1969 re-release that Fantasia finally gained widespread respect. Ironically, even though Walt Disney's faith in the movie was finally vindicated, he wouldn't have liked the reason why---the company decided to market it to hippies as the ultimate head trip.
Dear lord. Hate to say it, but after watching this trailer I can see why the film bombed. That has got to be the crappiest trailer I've ever seen. Love the film, though.
@WackdProductions This was from the 1940's. Lots of trailers back then were crappy. Take a look at the original Cinderella theatrical trailer or the 101 dalmations one.
i hope u all know that in the 1940 version they had a black girl with big lips and thats all racist catering to a pretty girl so they took it out and say she never existed.. -_- i want to see the old one now..
It´s so sad that this film was a big fall for Disney when it was released! Apperentely the new thriling experience of fantastic music illustrating fantastic drawings and films was off becuse it was not really a film more like short storys that did´t hang togheter and did in total not tell a story like Disneys films earlier! People was disscust! But maybe allso this film was never like any movie Disney had ever made he was to early!
Just got a copy of this on VHS in great shape at my local flea market, and for only 3 bucks. That's like basically throwing it away. Who throws away something as classic as Fantasia?
0:42 -- "The 'Dopey' of the Mushrooms." I'm sure that was an unintentional ha-ha, but it just looks funny now, especially after the psychedelic associations with the 1960s rerelease.

To be honest with you this movie wasn't great, it was just ok. They had way too much music, and why would they make a platnuim edition? Definitely not one of Disney's best.
In response to earlier, some say "WALL-E" is too different because the first 40 minutes clearly have minimal dialogue. On a relevant note, I could give or take "Fantasia".

This film, so far, has been sold better in stores than it's original theatrical box-office total, both in the USA, and, the rest of the world.
pancakeman22 11 months ago
Boasts it has the longest run in talking pictures at the time. Even though only the beggining has dialogue.

For one thing, it was the first American movie with surround sound.

Yeah but don't u agree that it was too different, and had too much music.
tiggercat500 2 years ago
Since my favorite Pixar movie is "WALL-E", you shouldn't assume that I don't accept movies that are too different.

Uh all it has is straight music, and like no or hardley any talking.
