I know this isn't Ravel, but this is how MANY of the popular composers felt about performers taking extreme liberties. Ravel detested self-indulgent rubato -- he wasn't too partial to rubato, full stop, and insisted that such minor pushing and pulling of time was applied only there where he had explicitly marked it. More tellingly than anything, when once asked how his piano scores might best be rendered most faithfully, he unhesitatingly recommended mechanical player pianos!" Ravel Biography
To be an artist, a work of art must start to be alive at the point where every formal and material matters finishes. All that neatness, mechanical perfection and mathematics of space come off from an artist because rather than stregthen him they make muddy his spiritual annointing. As the silkworm in the magic merger that makes life transmutes the size and ceases to be the cradle that enabled him to overcome.
Dear humankind: though you do not identify or share moments of glory full of living the spirit, it deserves respect and understanding for those who are destined to be the heralds of Providence in every one of His Performances and Representations.
Humankind should understand that an artist gives everything without conditions. His generosity has a great cost, sometimes, to fulfill the mandate for which it was destined.
@rosnicka08 What do you mean with "original song"? did you hear it played by Beethoven himself? Here is played the exact sheet music. Other, maybe you have heard, is odd.
