The cover is digipak right? How do you prevent it from decomposed? I just afraid that my 'Seven Samurai' and 'The Battle of Algiers' from Criterion too, get decomposed. Btw, nice kid you get there :)
@Rodzikovich Thanks you, this is her favorite thing to watch lately! I have never had issues with digipacks decomposing. I didn't know it was a problem. Do you mean literally falling apart? Or the occasional edge getting bent from shelfware?
You daughter is so cute! Haha such an awesome introduction. I love the Godzilla films, and this Criterion release is amazing! That pop-out is so nice! I hope to pick this one up later on when Barnes and Noble has their Criterion sale again. Awesome unboxing!
@themovieguy0 Thanks man! She loves watching this video because she didn't hear the actual Godzilla roar until it was edited & complete lol. Thanks for the kind words man, so glad you liked the unboxing! Such an awesome set, and my favorite Blu of 2012 so far! :)
@Guyverman01 This is an American Region 1 release, so you'll most likely have to order it from Amazon if you have a region free player. Hope that helps. :)
Very excited to pick this up. I too have been waiting years for this, I was so disappointed with Classic Media's release of Gojira, it was just terrible...
Criterion's releases may cost a bit more, but they're completely worth it. They always release what they get their hands on at the highest quality. If only they would be allowed to do transfers for the unaltered Star Wars OT, that would be heaven, haha.
@RagingTom Well said man. This Criterion edition is definitely the way to go. Wouldn't that be awesome? I would love to see some Criterion Star Wars. :)
Ann. That was the sweetest re-enactment I have ever seen. Bless. This is a fine release pete. I love it and entered Tyler's competition to try and win it. I didn't win it lol. Fortunately there is a British company called bfi that did a nice release so I will just pick that one up and who knows. If I get a chance at this great criterion release I might take advantage. Take care
@kulfie Haha thanks Kulfie! She had so much fun filming it! I love this Criterion release, and probably my favorite Blu Ray of 2012 so far. Do you have a region free player? I've been looking into getting one for some time. Take care too my friend, always good to hear from you!
I forgot to mention this also I wish Criterion do all of Bruce Lee's movies on blu-ray because I hear nothing about great things about criterion picture quality work among the movie community.
Your kid is adorable. Great video, man. Absolutely pumped to get this when it comes out. One of my secret wishes is that they will eventually release every one of my favorite movies onto the criterion collection. Totally worth buying, despite the slightly stiff price.
@jeffjonesjunior Thank you!! She loved being in this one, wanted to watch her "scene" over and over again, haha. This one is already available by the way, I think Amazon probably has the best price, but yeah it's a little steep most places. What's your favorite movie you want them to release?
@FilmFanPete Well, one of the movies that I am still waiting for them to release on to the Criterion collection, would be Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and 1974 caper-comedy with Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges. Such a classic. Also, I just found out that Harold and Maude is coming out onto the Criterion collection on April 17. Sure, it's still a bit of a wait, but it should be worth it.
@jeffjonesjunior Ohh yeah I remember that one, I would love to see anything Eastwood on Criterion. I always liked "Play Misty for Me" and "Tightrope" as two of his underrated films. Yes, I can't wait for Harold & Maude, such a great movie, I love the cover art for the Criterion release!
@RUSTYBOI1985 Yeah if only Criterion & Masters of Cinema could start making region free releases, we could have some worldwide classic cinema on Blu!! Thanks so much!
$27.99 for a pop-up Godzilla, ONE-DISC movie? Classic or not, that's way too much (IMO). Yea I know it has the other "version", to technically one could consider this 2 movies, but not really.
@aerodude73 Just depends on how much you like the movie. It's a classic film and it's from Criterion, with very cool packaging, great picture-sound-special features, that's a deal in my book. :)
Criterion Collection are Great I can't wait for them to release more Chaplin and I'm hoping for them to release Basquiat(1996) film with commentary and deleted scenes.
@BtownZombies Absolutely! More Chaplin is always welcome in my book! I would love to see a short film collection that includes "The Kid." I haven't seen Basquiat, but I've heard good things! :)
@InsaneBurger Dude, totally grew up with Betamax. Have we had this conversation before? lol. My dad chose Betamax during the format war, and refused to ever let it go to the "inferior vhs." I watched taped Beta movies until I was old enough to buy my own VCR, lol. :)
@FilmFanPete Haha, wow, you're as old school as me. I also used to have a game gear and I used to watch TV shows my parents didn't want me to watch on it. lol
What what a cutie! No, not you Pete. She is adorable! Lock her up soon for about 20 years or you will be haunted by boys and teenage years.... Now the movie looks great! Godzilla is a chessey classic!
@DeanOfDVD LOL, ohh manthe teenage years, based on my own, I am definitely not looking forward to hers, haha. Glad you liked the movie my friend! Definitely some great B movie fun! :)
Awww!! Love the beginning! Your daughter is so cute! Great unboxing! Very impressed with the packaging on this one. I remember watching the original Godzilla as a kid and loving it. I might just have to pick this one up! As always, great video!
@minijoebroccoli Thanks for the kind words!! I first came across the Godzilla movies when I had the flu as a kid, watched nearly all of them over the course of several days. They have since become sort of "comfort" movies, like the "chicken noodle soup" of cinema. haha. :)
@TheLonesomeFoghorn Thanks man! She keeps wanting to watch the intro over & over again, when we shot it I was just pretending to roar, so hearing the actual Godzilla roar really makes her laugh! :)
I love the packaging on this; that pop-up inside is the coolest thing they could have possibly done! And it's nice to hear that this has such a nice transfer. Great unboxing!
@bookmovieguy Thank you thank you!! Isn't that "pop-up" cool? I wish I could display it open like that all the time haha. I appreciate you watching, take care. ;)
Nice video, you're defiantly the go to guy for unboxings and reviews. For criterions I want this, the killing, videodrome, and in march this year, the last temptation of christ.
I will definitely be picking this one up. Great video as always Pete! It's great to see another movie buff who loves Godzilla. By the way, that intro was really funny. Keep up the great videos!
Your daughter is adorable man. It's funny that you had her introduce a film featuring a monster. lol Gorgeous criterion, one that I'll have to pick up eventually.
@SiilentMiike Thanks man! She loved making the intro, just laughed & laughed. My favorite sound in this world, haha. Glad you liked the Criterion, such a cool package! :)
I loved the intro with your daughter, Pete, so cute! Thanks so much for mentioning my channel! Haha, "don't expect Fast Five audio", that's hilarious! Has been on my Wish List for a while. A Godzilla film put by Criterion is a thing I never expected to happen. I read reviews and already people are digging this release. As for other Godzilla films, none of the Heisei films (84-95) has gotten any decent release. They need better DVDs let alone Blu-Rays.
@TheMantaBluRay I never expected it either, I was SO happy when they announced it! Absolutely, it's a great Blu Ray, definitely my favorite of 2012 so far. I would love to see more Godzilla on Blu Ray!!! :)
Although I do have to make a criticism regarding the packaging. I have never seen Criterion do gimmicky as the Pop-Up thing. I didn’t mind it so much as the Godzilla suit used is the one from Masaaki Tezuka’s Mechagodzilla films. This is where I think Classic Media’s DVD set is better at.
Great opening Pete! Really wanted this, but I went with Real Steel and Paranormal Activity 3. Also my Best Buy didn't have this, their Criterion collection is really second-rate.
@kzt78 Haha thank you! It was fun to make! I also picked up Real Steel & 50/50. Can't wait to watch those soon! I think for some reason Godzilla was only available online for Best Buy. Thanks for watching man! ;)
