Too sweet. The Gods of rock. I dont know the dates and unfortunately I never got to se them in concert. I do know that blackmore is by far my favorite musician. Rock on
Uh, sorry guys, my mistake here. The Todd cover of The Yardbirds song was actually "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago" and not "Still I'm Sad". It can be heard on his "Faithful" album. The Yardbirds version has already been posted on this thread - it's worth a listen. Again, sorry for my error...
I have an original copy of this LP and i find myself playing side 4 (it's a double LP) the most. Side 4 is 2 songs: 16th Century Greensleeves and Still I'm Sad
I respectfully but firmly disagree, Dio’s vocal is even more rock-solid on this version (but he is great in both), and Blackmore's solo is just blistering - considerably better than the one from Munich, and one of his best ever. From a performance standpoint, this is the best version I have ever heard, though it is unfortunate (criminal, really) that the record producer cut Cozy’s solo.
So many memories of this album. I would get off of work and hurry home to clean up to meet my girlfriend. I would always put this album on the stereo while cleaning up.
@manton2y this version is from the album On Stage 76' though i am not sure if it's from Japan or Germany as tracks from shows from both countries were included in the album
@s22ad The album was recorded live over several German and Japanese dates in late 1976 during the Rising world tour. Many of the tracks were spliced together from different dates ...
For myself my tears just fall in the dust aahhh Day will dry them and night will found them lost There is none higher than Blackmore/Dio None Too bad they were so dark but Ritchie is doing better now, Maybe Dio Too Ha ha check out "where are we going from here" from Blackmores Night
I worshiped these guys most of my life but if Id ever met them they probably wouldnt give me the time of day. Theres someone who died an agonizing death for you and offers you all the riches of heaven and earth and life forever. Its a no brainer man. Ask King Jesus to come into your life. You wont regret it!
4:15 - 5:45 I love the keys. Rainbow had some great keys parts like Stargazer intro from Live in Germany or intro to Tarot Woman. Only Child in Time from UK TV Show beats it.
If this section doesn't blow you away between 6:55 to 7:45, then you are dead inside. Especially at 7:18. Goose Bumps every time. True Dio and Blackmore.
These artist were peaking at this time and this album. Dio still produce some other hits, but nothing like he and Ritchie produced. This has been my top album since 77. Every song is so powerful and raw. Best album for Air Guitar, Vocals and Drums. RIP Dio and Cozy.
Saw Rainbow at the Olympic in LA in 77 or 78. They really put on a great show. They had the trifecta of great talent and great back-ups and were doing what no one else was doing. Ritchie's solo's were unbelevable.
To the poster: Recorded in late '76 on the 'Rising' tour. The live tracks were recorded from different shows in Japan and Germany, so I can't tell for sure where this particular track was recorded...

The definitive version of this song. Those newer versions do not kick any butt at all, nor do they evoke any kind of nostalgia or neo-classical vibe. And I don't like Doogie Howser trying to do Dio on vocals.
Superb version! It reminds me of my high school days back in the late 70s. Great times and great music. It also reminds me of a woman who broke my heart. But I always end up on a good note. The happy memories prevail. Rainbow always Rainbow.
