Through trains from the West usually use platform 8 but this wan't 'cast in stone' ... platform 4 would be used, and is still, as required. Platform 4 is more usually used, as required, for services terminating from any direction (Manchester, Leeds, Bradford & Penistone) but through services off the Penistone line have to use it.
Its also strange, at the start the train stopped at platform 4 instead of 8. Usually the present transpennine express trains going to Hull, Scarborough, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and York via Huddersfield and Leeds stop at platform 8
Great times! decent loco hauled trains with no plastic rubbish i sight :) i feel sorry for anyone not old enough to experience when proper trains used to run on our railways!!!
Platform 4 can be used by trains in either direction - and not just for through trains ... Manchester trains can arrive and depart from there likewise Leeds trains.
At 5.04 did the announcer say platform 4? Because I thought only trains stopping at platform 1 went to Manchester piccadilly and Liverpool lime street
Absolute quality. Lost track of the amount of time I spent traveling between Liverpool and Newcastle behind these mighty machines. Suggestion - take the 'duff' out of the tags - makes you look a bit of a tit.
It depends which station in Manchester you're going to. If you're going to Manchester Victoria then it takes 1h 25 minutes. If you're going to Oxford road then it takes about an hour or more. If you're going to Manchester Piccadilly then it takes 55 minutes. If you're going to Manchester airport, then it takes 1h 25 minutes or 1h 15 minutes. I have been on that line before because I'm from Huddersfield.
@luke9620 Also trains going from Leeds to Manchester victoria use the caldervale line and only trains that terminate in Manchester Piccadilly or go to Manchester airport ot go all the way to Livepool lime street use the Huddersfield line
Brings back memories of travelling on West Yorkshire Day Rover between Leeds and Huddersfield!!,remember once being hauled by a Class 56 after the 47 went demic, and have also 31 haulage too, those were the days!!!!
yes feel sorry for you mate not much better for me either as these types of trains stopped running not long after i was independant enough to go out on my own to see them worse still we don't build trains anymore all overseas built rubbish we import now.
Superb thanks a lot, takes me back! I remember it being a total surprise when the IS batch transferred to CD. 47517 'Andrew Carnegie' being a strong performer at the time.
Excellent vid, thanx for sharing, I used to travel regular on the Transpenines from Newcastle to Darlington, always made a point of missing the HST`s so I could get loco hauled :D
Each day at platform 4, one transpennine express service terminates at platform 4a
