We need foregn currency to import goods from other countries. These are things we require for our basic needs. How many people in our country lives under poverty. More than 70 percent of our country shares there income within their family for their basic needs. 60 percent of their income is spent for rent in Male and 1/3rd of the population of entire country lives in male.And 60 percent of the population of Male' lives for rent and they are from atolls.

Nasheed wants to get attention and popularity of international media. He does not want to do things beneficial to the maldivian community. He should be ashamed of himself representing "Maldives" and people of the country.How much aid did he get from the international community to protect our environment. How much did he get from leasing our international airport. It must be more than 1.3 billion dollars. Where are these dollars why had the dollar rate increased to 15.42 from 12.85.

It must be very hard for the people of the Maldives to see tourists come to thier land and be able to drink and cohort as they wish with little or no respect for the country they visit. As it seems that the average worker in all the tourist resorts makes minimal profit ( yet still live in poverty)in way of wages in the wake of the billion dollar tourist industry.

Agree with Minister Nasheed, If it hasent been for President Qayoom's dedication to the development of Maldives, the little nation would have died a long time ago. I firmly belive President Maumoon is the part of the solution to every aspect of Maldives.

Interesting 'debate'

there are many causes of extremism. one of them as mentioned was opperession.poverty is a major factor.people in the rural islands are not provided basic facilities. all of those who were arrested in Maldives due to bom blast have one factor in common, that is, they all are very poor.

isnt it about time aljazeera brought a report on this issue ( poverty ) in

so being progressive according to the government and MDP means freedom to drink, take drugs and have orgy like parties..very eye opening indeed about these two faced hypocrites.
