hey im sorry if this is a stupid question, im only 16 and barely getting interested in this stuff, but why is there such a long platform between the cabin and where the trailor connects
Total tractor trailer length in Maine 79' 11" long 8' 6" wide, have run alot, 83' long 9'6" wide empty. Got followed by dot in NY for miles, I was empty, finally came over the radio, you in the flamed Pete, pull over in the parking lot coming up on the left, I answered can I fit, he says I thinks so. We got out and he said, you need a permit for that thing, handed him the permit and he escorted me to the pickup site. He was looking at the width, never measured the length.
@hickrystyk ::: Why are you backing into a space at a truck stop? Only rookies and a-holes do that. You should always pull through or move on. Man, I hate that. It is those kinds of people that screwed up the trucking industry.
it is deff a nice looking truck but there is no way i could have one that long.. i have places i deliver to that my condo wont fit in half the time with out ripping my hair out
Hi. Here in Australia we have rules on overall length instead of seperate trailer and truck lengths. Would you be legal in the states if you put a tray on the stretch section to carry more freight?
it's my understanding, here in the u s, as long as the length of the trailer does not exceed 53', the tractor can be any length. but i'm just a driver not a dot man!
Having a truck with a wheelbase that long is just dumb, it makes the truck take forever to turn, and you dont get any better ride than you will with a 275" wheel base. Anything over 300" is just dumb.
I know some people like the way it looks, but it is not practical and having a wheel base that long will mean not being able to get into many places.
@rusttrail3 ya sorry i realized that after i saw other videos..... the 351 is kinda misleading right away lol and after being behind the wheel of a semi for 16 hours you get kinda tired
Thanks for the reply camaroracer454. Could you tell me what the restrictions for overall wheelbases for trucks in the usa??? Like I said, we are limited up here in Canada with 244 inch WB without a permit, if I'm not mistaken. I love the custom trucks, I just find the space between the bunk and reefer t be huge.
I have a long truck here in the states, theres no purpose what so eveer just looks cool and actually makes the ride a little better but there are restrictions on how long you can be but it very's state to state were I run theres isnt but out west there pretty picky about the total length. but to get around it you either go around the scale or get a cheap permit no big deal. No restriction on overall wheel base of the truck. Just a restriction on total length truck and trailer.
@MrCanadarulez there is NO restriction on wheelbase of tractors in a tractor semi trailer combination UNLESS some part of the cargo is resting and secured directly to the tractor. In other words a car carrier has a length limit but a tractor with a 5th wheel that supports a trailer, and all of the cargo is inside or on the trailer has no limits except what you can reasonable drive SAFELY
@MrCanadarulez Hello Im an owner operator and i think I can help, there is really no regulation on the tractor wheel base just to whats practal HOWEVER you may NOT exceede the OVERALL LENGTH of tractor/trailer combo. and I do know that each state has its own regulations manily the bridge laws of corse. And the fedral bridge laws will determine if you need to install a lift axle to make the weight distribution work so I guess there is some regulation.I hope this helps
@toms879 dont matter the wheel base, trailers are limited to 53ft without a permit. Not sure how long the truck can be but i think its they can be pretty long. but with doubles/triples total vehicle length is limited to 95ft i believe with out a permit
But the truck is absolutely flawless, I'll give it that.I love the colors and the matching trailer but she must turn like a world war two battleship. I wish I had one. I'm jealous.
What is the point of having it so stretched out like that..beautiful truck with way too much space between the bunk and trailer. I'm canadian so we are restricted to 244 inch wheelbase without having a permit.
@camaroracer454 thats gotta be hell in tight corners though. BUT on the other hand, attention grabber is right. to me i t looks good. id suggest maybe some diamond plate on teh frame rails between teh sleeper and the rear wheels though. BUT this trucks owner did a fine job
@camaroracer454 and when the truck has a longer wheelbase, it is easier to drive and the tractor trailer has a better ride then when the truck isn't stretched. Also, Spread Axles have a better ride because the the weight is distriputed more evenly so when you hit a bump, it's more plush. It looks great too, so it's a win win situation for the truckers lol
@MrCanadarulez 244? i think youre getting something wrong..the factory wb for any w9 or 379 comes at 265..so if you own one in canada you need a permit withouth even touching it?
i had an orange and black 01 w900l with a 325" wheel base. i pulled a 53ft reefer and ran ltl freight around and in boston. you just have to get use to it. granted most of you cant back up or get around with the short little company rides you have! and as far as the weight on the steers look at the fith wheel long rides have long slides. its possable to make it to light... nice ride hope to see you soon. tell ritchie barry said hey!
man i drive a tri axel here in Canada.they are pretty close to the same length as this or at least they look close. but i wouldnt want to be messin with vans like this with that kinda length much easyer with a deck no loading docks lol.
sick truck but theres no other reson for such a long wheels base on the tractor other than for looks. that thing couldnt pull 80000 pounds past the scales none of the wait of the trailer would even make it to the front wheels worthless
not arguing, just debating ; ) The weight on the two axles is split, youde agree right? Well the weight on the front axle in the back is putting leverage towards the front of truck, so that weight is on the front end of the truck (front wheels) Also, the weight is meant to be in between the two rear axles, so it would be the same force on the front of the truck reguardless where those two axles are placed (or how the long the trucks stretched) Maybe there is some difference, just my two sense.
well I have a friend of mine that has a w900l with a 300 wheelbase and his steers sit a little over 12,000 full of fuel cause when he stretched it it threww all of the weight of the fuel tanks up front but he pulls a spread axle and you can go up to 40,000 on the spread so he still has weight on the front regardless
DEFINITELY one of the most beautiful machines I have ever seen....let me ask a question how do you change the rear tires when flat??? I mean those covers... are they removable or what???
well it was orignally done to keep your steer tires weight down by putting them further up and then the steelhaulers stretched them where they could hang the steel over the nose of the trailer so yes its benificial
