Man I forgot all about this song until I ran across it after watching Jennifer Warnes' Right Time of the Night performance.
Man I sure miss these old times back when we were in a period when there were no wars going on, the economy was great, we were young and full of energy, and life was just good :)
I bought a K-Tel album when I was nine or ten because this was on it. I can't even remember what the album was called, but it was all the great songs around that time.
Pilot of the airwaves... I was eleven back then and still remember the melody that brought me here to listen all over again. You're still sounding good to me...
Ditto MmeTaboo. Have fond memories of this song from spring 1980.My sister rode us around in her new 280zx with this song blarin'.I was in ninth grade then but it seems like yesterday. She's gone now but I remember this era with great fondness.
It's amazing. I don't know what brought to my memory part of the lyrics of this song, from the deepest abyss in my subconscious, while I was surfing the web some moments ago..., a song I haven't heard since, ...since when? 1980, maybe. I was 14 back then and I loved it to the point of madness, playing it over and over again, driving people around me crazy. Good revival. By the way, it was in the Caribbean Coast of Colombia, so, good music knows no age or colors of NATIONALITIES.
Every time they show the opening scene and there is that guy in the blue vest with squares all over it, he looks like the actor who played "Tommy" on Third Rock from the Son, Joseph Gordon-Leavitt!! LOL!
Wow, I loved hearing this jingle (i thought it was jingle) in one of my favorite station when I was still a kid.... it brings back memories, so many of them and they all put a smile on my face :)
I was 4 when this came out. im now 35 and for some reason I woke up this morning having this song playing in my head half of the night.... what a flashback!!!
My little sister used to hate this song and I would put it on the record player and let it just repeat over and over to get even with her when she made me mad...good thing I loved it....
For many, many years I thought this was Starland Vocal Band, which explains why I couldn't ever find it in a record store....and then Youtube comes along, and well....I get to listen to it whenever I want to!! Great memories of a much younger time in my life!
Is it not amazing that hearing a song can time warp you back to an earlier time in your life? For me this song takes me back 30 years to when I was in Belize for two months. It was a popular request on one of the local radio stations. Thank you for the post.
Fabulous songs like this heard on the radio once in a blue moon, whilst the rest of the time, the 'Airwaves' are full of today's unadulterated crap...
Loved this then ,still do, one of life's guilty pleasures and oh I was in love then! sorry if you're reaching for the sick bucket : ) Went to see her in The Venue at Victoria in Oct 81.... great.
As I recall it charted in May of 1980 or so....I don't think it got to the Top Ten though. Only got as high as 11 or 12 or something.....Thank you Casey Kasem for filling my head with all this useless crap :(
Thanks for posting this! Super tune that brings back some wonderful memories of a much simpler time in my life. Charlie's got such a sweet sounding voice. Love it!
In August of 1979, I was with friends listening to an AM radio station in central Texas drinking beer out at Belton Lake. The next day we all shipped out to different units. It was this song that I remember and think of that night.
One of the all time best songs from the late 1970's. Check out Charlie's new song "Sleep all day". It's terrific! Charlie Dore is a brilliant singer/songwriter.
i love this song,thank sharing
