So for me as first gen indian amer. i loved it..the details..the father..exactly like my father. i gotta say..sorry to all of you who liked him..but i didnt love Kal penn in it..i wished it was someone else..but i dont dislike him either.i jsut wished for a better one. In the movie i see it as ashima's film, not totally but somewhat more. she was wonderful and to me.she made the film...well i jsut wish there were MORE films as this!

I am surprised to see how America has perceived the movie and specially by the critics. Firstly, the movie is an experimental narrative because it leaves viewers to decide who were the protagonists. was it the parents or the children?

and secondly, the movie is not an individualized film at all. Whereas much of Hollywood is obsessed with Hero's journey narrative and classic hollywood structure and for them to think otherwise is impossible.
