Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, Shellac, June of 44 and so many other great bands that will never be remembered except by those of us who seen them and lived it. This time of the 90's is so special and will never be repeated. No matter what these kids say about their bands and the "new scene", we will always know the truth.
@EmeraldJEM710 i was a kid in the 90's and didn't even know about music outside of local music televisions, then in 2002 I went to Ireland, for a couple of days and bought a Ramones album, it all started there. Got an internet connection in 2004 (poor family) and started discovering all these great bands, through related Ramones videos. Thank you Punk, you made my life!
Christ, I can't believe I went to these shows. I can smell the sweat and B.O. through the screen! Embarrassing, but they were fucking fun at the time.
If this video doesn't impress some people that is fine and dandy. I do know that at the time the video was recorded, the band was a small phenomenon. This was a band and a show for people who really wanted it and sought it out. You can tell by the audience reaction. I remember being totally overwhelmed by the music. That is the beauty of this video. It captures all of that for me. Simple. I am glad this moment was properly documented even if it is a bit low-fi.
Just listenning to music with my younger best friend and he suggested that I listen to this video. And after the first verse, i was fucking hooked! These guys fucking rock!!!!
@fvgdfbdokd This was the 80s before everyone was fat. Why post a critical comment then apologize? If you apologize for your opinion it must not be worth much.
@fvgdfbdokd I respect that - but I will say that it's evident that you have no punk attitude. And that's not an awful thing, but as any punk will tell you: The weirder, the better
for the people who say"been there done that" to have been here and done this was a part of history to me.i time when music was taking new turns ..when you could turn on the radio..yes radio..remember,and hear something so completely new and different that it turned you around and made you say ..man who is that.thanks to rock 88 ..88.1 wknc in raleigh n.c i heard this and i think that it was in the brewery that i saw them (which was recently demolished) in the late 80s along with C.O.C........
What a breath of fresh air when legendary Minor Threat exploded into a whole new level of rock genius. For my money they never quite topped those early E.P. days.
Like how the focus on Charlie's Silouette dancing at 2:30-2:40. Charlie(wearing the skirt) was a fixture at a lot of the great shows in DC. That guy could dance forever.
I've got to find the video I made of Fugazi, The Ex and NoMeansNo show in DC. That show was like a sweathouse lodge. Not sure how to post it from a VHS tape though....yea I'm oldschool, but that's all we had back then....camcorders! Haha
@dabeel Haha that's awesome! VHS haha brings back memories of my childhood. (I'm a 90's kid). Anyway, if you wanted to, you could go to people who turn VHS to DVD's, and probably also on digital format on like a thumb drive or something, then upload on youtube? :)
skinny arse jumpy straight-edge white punk rock gods. saw em a few times in sydney in the 90's. no lights, no pedals, no bullshit. at sydney town hall 93 the place was full so they let a few of us on the sides of the stage. it was some furious shit. direct. diretto as guy would say. seems to me there's nothing quite like this any more. am i wrong? if so please let me know,
being an outsider can be lonely and is difficult at times, but there are postives to being of good taste and that is discovering little gems like this video. i am self-employed and very worried about the economy and my work going down the pan. i tune in to this video each day and it fills me with great spirit and resilience. music can be so powerful and uplifting and this single video is deeply affecting, even after the 52nd viewing. POWER TO THE MINORITY...we know we're right.
This is just straight vibing to the music. When you let the music take over your body and mind. You don't really see anything like this anymore. This is fucking amazing!
@stfcgrey Hey, I'm just saying... because well, too many teens always say "Oh, I'm the only person at my school who listens to.... so and so. I don't listen to mainstream crap. I'm so special!"
@TheSouthernKiller80 And this poor kid has now deleted all his posts because of this. You probably mean't no harm but some kids 'are' different and what may seem like attention seeking to you, is a call for solidarity to others. Anyway on a musical note, here in the UK, the charts are awash with shite like Rhianna and bullshit autotune commercial 'urban' crap, so anyone watching 'this' video and enjoying it 'is' special.
@stfcgrey Hmm. But, what you call shit isn't shit to others. So really, anyone's taste in music doesn't make them "different" because it's a matter of opinion.
@TheSouthernKiller80 I see your point but if we're talking numbers, which would infer a minority vs a majority, the masses will go for the commercial tunes and the fringes will go for the leftfield music of substance. I'm sure you'd agree that music churned out by the likes of Simon Cowell et al lacks quality when compared to music such as Fugazi, Yo La Tengo, Mogwai, Leonard Cohen to name but a few. Surely this goes beyond opinion?
@uszatoichi um, they were kids you fool. Kids who played music that meant something to a lot of people. Sorry they weren't fat, cause then maybe you would have liked them?
the straight edge movement is almost as much of a joke as this sorry excuse of a "punk" band... It's sad that people view "bands" like Fagazi as originators of the punk movement and know nothing about the true innovators, such as The Sonics.
@penquinftw I think your points are off the mark. Fugazi was not/is not part of the "straight edge movement." Straight edge is traced back to Ian's former band Minor Threat. Get it straight(ha!). Furthermore, no one said Fugazi was one of the original creators of the punk sound. That goes back to the Stooges, The Dolls, The Ramones, , etc. They are part of the continuum though and a very important link in the chain. What is up with calling them "Fagazi" anyway? Not smart or cool. Just ignorant.
THIS is a show. i went to my first punk show when i was twelve and never, ever had the urge to see a band in a stadium or HUGE hall because nothing beats the intimacy that comes along with seeing an awesome band in a small room
Yeah, the place/date info is at the very end. Truth is I always watch the beginning because that is the best part to me. I watched it all the way through the first few times but that was like a year and a half ago. I love it when the band kicks in and everyone starts moving. That is solid gold Fugazi right there..
@matt6777 Hmmm. I was at that show but I guess it was a long ass time ago. Maybe it was 88. I do recall being home from college for Christmas break which would mean it was 87 and not 88. But again, I am probably wrong.

More bands need to learn from Fugazi. They aren't trying to act cool or tough, they're just having a great time on stage. I think a lot of newer bands need to learn from them.

More bands need to learn from Fugazi. They aren't trying to act cool or tough, they're just having a great time on stage. I think a lot of newer bands need to learn from them.
