  • it's chaz not chad you fuck

  • Alec* Baldwin. not Alex.

  • I'm from Germany and guess what, I love this movie although I'm FOREIGN. My favourite french culture magazine called this movie a "masterpiece of idiosyncratic intelligence and subtle comedy". You know we produce some pretty shitty movies too, just because a movie is 'foreign' doesn't mean it's brilliant and stuff, that's kinda funny. You should stop being so critical about american art, because there's so much more than the hollywood-crab. This movie made me cry.

  • God, this guy is a douche. He is terrible at reading his goddamn lines.

  • Alex? ALEX BALDWIN???????

30 thumbs down for THAT little faux pas, my friend

  • 7- Les triplettes de Belleville, 2003, France, Sylvain Chomet dir.

6- The road, 2009, USA, John Hillcoat dir.

5- The pianist, 2002, Poland/France, Roman Polanski dir.

4- Crimen ferpecto, 2004, Spain, Alex de la Iglesia dir.

3- Mulholland Drive, 2001, USA, David Lynch dir.

    2- Amélie, 2001, France, Jean-Pierre Jeunet dir.

1- Der Untergang, 2004, Germany, Oliver Hirschbiegel

This was improvised, but as you can see, all of this movies are better than your #1... You don't know anything of cinema!

  • @ElSiMiOb

Der Untergang was great. Everyone should see it, with subtitles.

  • Are you crazy? You cannot be speaking seriously... All this movies are american, its ridiculous to think that the best cinema in the world is american, and make an absurd list without any foreign film... In fact, a really well done list shouldn't have more than two or three american films... This is an improvised example:

10- Le fille coupée en deux, 2007, France, Claude Chabrol dir.

9- Caché, 2005, France, Michael Haneke dir.

8- Cidade de deus, 2002, Brazil, Fernando Meirelles dir.

  • The best film of the fecade, no doubt.

And of course, "These days" catched that one scene pretty good as well:)

  • @MrCrazyMonkey101 kill your self lol..

  • @EwokianWisdom thats b/c your stupid.

  • weird list

  • your number 1 definitely suprised the hell out of me. I didnt even give this movie a thought when it came out, it completely slipped my radar. Well, ill check it out. thx for the list

  • Ok, now tell me why the movie is funny?

Dr. Strangelove is the greatest comedy of all time, although Monty Python's Holy Grail and Life of Brian are great comedies too,

but THIS FILM IS NOT FUNNY. That film does not deserve top of the decade, especially considering films such as Primer came out in the same decade.

  • Wow, Up, Borat and The Royal Tenenbaums all on one list? I must be dreaming. I LOVE thos movies.

  • i agree this movie is a master piece too bad people dont like it

  • If this film is the best of the DECADE- something's wrong in the world!

  • It is the #1 movie. But don't forget that the movie is the focal point...not you.

  • I agree. A magnificent film. I never tire of watching it.

  • This guy is rather uneducated in terms of music, film, and the movie itself.

  • best movie of the decade is LORD OF THE RINGS

  • this is one of the best films I have ever seen..if you are not an intelligent or insightful person, you will most likely not enjoy it..its smart and subtle humor that is made even more hilarious by the great character acting by all of the actors/actresses. The other element that is great is the fact that Wes Anderson shares a genius similar to that of Scorsese, and that is the ability to use great source music,..loved it!!

  • I put There Will Be Blood at 1

  • Dude, No Donnie Darko #2 and Lord of the Rings#1

  • I agree with him about a lot, but that guy is suck a prick.

  • you're a dumbass. alec baldwin. and this movie was fucking awful.

  • I saw this film a few months ago at the only independant cinema left in britain. I had never heard of it before I saw it but it was awsome.

  • thank you for giving credit where credit is greatly deserved

  • Absolutely. This was on my #3 slot. Wes Anderson is my favorite director.

  • bullshit

  • both the owen brothers thats enough for a great movie for me

  • @cobweb1989 yeah and it was co-written by owen wilson too

  • Alex Baldwin?

  • When I was fifteen I sat down to watch this with my father. After fifteen minutes he left the room; I laughed so much I missed half of the movie and bought a dvd player because I could not find it on VHS.

  • I wish we could say the same for the World here.

  • projecting again eh Mopsius?

  • Science of sleep was amazing too, and that was a FOREIGN film.

  • Do you realize that you said "Alex Baldwin"?

Was that written in the review?

Anyway. I loved this film. Rushmore too.

  • The "Alex " Baldwin typo was my error. I double checked the written script and it was written in the review. Sorry about that.

  • I forgive you. Great writing.

  • finally!! someone else. this movie IS genius. decade? hell. of all time.

i just watched it the other day. put it on for background to housework and then didn't get a damned thing done. it's THAT good.

hey, davis! lookin' pale. still stayin' in so i don't hafta? fabulous.

  • A bunch of wealthy concieted assholes, yeah everyone has issues, found myself not giving a shit about any of the characters in this film, best of the decade? No way, not even top 10.

  • shit yeah. this is the film.

  • The plot vaguely reminded me of "Frannie and Zoey" by JD Sallinger. I saw a lot more in this film too that was kind of an inside joke. It's hard to describe.

  • ps : GREAT list Davis. I found it hard to disagree with any of them really. I havent seen Redacted but the way you presented it I feel shitty about skipping it in the theaters.

  • Cool list, interesting writing, but this list should be renamed "Best US movies decade"...

  • @oharawinter I was thinking that VERY same thing, actually. It would take me a few mins to come up with foreign movies to compete but Im sure I could. But in hindsight Im sure to escape coming off pretentious, "Davis" probably kept it local on purpose.

Shoot him a note, maybe he'll do a foreign film list. I'd love to see it.

  • @eeedel CITY OF GOD comes to mind......

  • @davisfleetwood GOD YES. One of my favorite films of all time. Triplets of Belleville and Sexo y Lucia is up there too.

  • 'Y Tu Mama Tambien' is also a must see foreign film.

  • @modestomouso1234 AGREED.. the ending was rushed, but I dont think that took away from the film at all.

  • a lot of "american films" have non-us directors that are filmed/produced in other countries(and on location) as well. I think you missed what was being said. You want to put City of God and Femme Fatale under the same umbrella as FOREIGN? Try. You can't.

  • Liked the film. Like Davis.

    simple ~

  • Good Job, Very appropriate. The Worst problem we have in America is the complete destruction of the American Family. No one has been saved from the perversion of Broken homes and chased Fathers. Crime, poverty, economics & education have all been linked to the selfishness thats in the hearts of parents, grandparents and government support systems. There is only one thing in this world worst than growing up without a father and that is growing up with a father that does not care about you. Bravo

  • Reading the rest of the comments, I guess I'm seeing things that are not there. You mean there was no point to all of your choices? The Sigh at the end of the review was just a sigh because you had to get up to turn off the Camera?

I mistook your sigh for some Artsy way of exclamation the problems with the American exception of broken homes, children and lives. Too much?

  • @btigtime2 Yes, I put a lot into the choices, the sequences, everything. I like your reading of the end better than the others.

..top ten songs will be posting today. I am VERY happy with how those came out....

  • Please do not read rap to us again. It was hard on me

I believe since most of your picks were tragic and absent of the Hollywood ending.. You should go watch "The Road" playing now and give it honorable mention.

  • gladiator???

  • alec.

  • Neh, Spirited Away is better.

  • As good as Spirited Away was, I reckon Howl's Moving Castle was way better.

  • Ten videos in one day? That by itself shows Dennis' somwhat less than enthusiastic feelings for this material. The Royal Tenenbaums the best film of the decade, really? This is satire, people.

  • Wot no Rob Zombie Epics !!!!????

  • Awesome series you got going, great stuff as always.

  • My favorite Wes Anderson for sure.

    Absolutely hilarious.

    Good choice!

  • dude, tenenBOMBS and aleC baldwin. STRAIGHT UP YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT READING AND KNOWING THINGS>

  • Better than any other mainstream top 10 list. But not as good as mine by half = ).

  • Of coarse

  • I must have seen this movie at least five times.

    I loved this movie.

  • Must be just me- I really did not like it at all, no fault to the great cast either.

  • Probably my favorite movie of all time.

  • I don't think I saw all of this movie but I meant to check it out. Good review but I have to say it seemed like you either weren't enthralled about doing it or you were just exhausted and said "fuck it, I'll leave in the sigh at the end to let everyone know this was a pain in the ass."

  • Good choice for best, definitely one of my favourites.

  • Ben Stiller?
