I HATED this plot twist that Annie had duped an ex-husband and faked her death. Anybody who followed Annie's story from the start will know that she was a very vulnerable and sensitive woman, a sincerely loving mother to Josh's kids - who was actually DRIVEN INSANE when Josh was passionately drawn back to Reva Shayne. Pretending to be Reva's sister was to guilt trip her to back off - it all went downhill from there - but Annie was NOT cruel & vindictive by nature. She was damaged and scared.
@WLegacy30 Well, when it was still a good show. It's terrible to think about that it would be a little less than 2 months after this, in March 1998, and the departure of Fletcher and the beginning of the clone story line that the show would really start going waaaaaay off track and lose it's semblance of keeping true to what former GL head scribe, Doug Marland, use to say was it's story line bible.
@cAMILLEnADIA Actually, Josh and Reva had something to lose if Annie married Alan--controlling stock in Lewis Oil. They were plotting to take over Lewis Oil and Annie couldn't keep it a secret...sooooo as she usually did went to Lewis Oil to rub it in their faces...so what did Reva do?? She started digging and up popped Annie's husband. ROFLOL!!! She should have kept her mouth shut and Reva wouldn't have found...
God, what a genius Cynthia Watros is. Thank god for youtube. In due time, may her entire duration of Annie be uploaded here, to be given new life and new fans.
what a true statement.....they killed this show.....I hate that it is ending....watched this show with my grandmother, now 45 years later it is ending....It could have been saved but CBS didn't care.....
Me too. I HATED Reva for this--for once, Annie was trying to get on with her life and leave her and her precious Josh alone, and Reva just had to go and mess it up.
I stumbled across this show circa 1992, as the LA riots were occurring. (I was reporting on that event for a now defunct, local mag) and there was this story line about this cross-dressing serial murderer.
I went- huh? What. Not a Soap fan, I tuned in anyway. (They'd moved GL to 10 AM... that's the only way I'd might have sampled it) Got hooked on the outstanding writing and acting and direction.
Sorry, but the shift toward the younger characters issues left me bored. Bn Thr, dn tht.
OKAY! Was that not da bomb ass -ish or wht?!!! Still- I've got to give mad props to those scenes when Annie actually convinces people she's right. And that she's not this totally insane freak who ought to be taken off of high society's playbook.
YES, Cynthia Watros was excellet and on point from 97-98, Annie is one of daytimes best villianess. I jumped up and down when she got her emmy, BROVO GL, and long live ANNIE..
Cynthia Watros rules! I certainly see why she won Outstanding Lead Actress in 1998. Her first nomination and first win compared tio Susan Lucci's 18th nomination.

Allan is such a hypocrite dumping Annie. He's not exactly Mr. Honesty himself

The Guiding Light is not the
longest runing daytime drama, its not the longest runing drama, its not the longest runing soap opera!
It is not none of that. The GL is the longest runing show in TV history not just daytime, not just drama, but TV history!
The GL needs a little more respect to show that no TV show have come close to what THE GL has done!!
Thats so direspectful to get rid of a perfect TV history show!!! Its the best and all ways will be the best!
Show GL some RESPECT!

Wow, best soap of 1997 and 12 years later it's being cancelled. Damn shame.
Allen and Annie deserve each other, but watching this I kinda feel sorry for Annie.

It may have been the best show of 1997, but it sure isn't now. It used to be so good. Now, it's just painful.
