I don't understand why Warner Brothers isn't going to release this film. This is the same studio that released "A Clockwork Orange" (also in 1971 and loaded with sex and violence) and MGM releasing "Straw Dogs" on DVD. Does the studio understand that Russell's film came at the tail end of the Vietnam war (in which his co-star Vanessa Redgrave try to stop) and here we are almost 40 years after this film and the world is stuck with another unholy war. Memo to WB: The world needs "The Devils" now.
@EricandDish I agree, but to be honest, I think WB is too scared to release this film for it's "offensive" material. I'm Baptist, and I do not find this movie offensive. In fact it is a clever character study and shows how hypocracy can kill truly innocent people. Flawed people mind you (aren't we all), but innocent none the less. But like you said, the world needs this movie now more than ever.
I can't believe they didn't include this magnificent clip in Vanessa's BAFTA tribute - it would have been a HILARIOUS addition within a filmography of many serene, beautiful and morally upstanding characters! Not to mention that Prince William was presenting the award...
This is from Ken Russell's THE DEVILS, a movie that, apparently, Warner Bros. is SO ashamed to have distributed that they WON'T be releasing it on DVD. For a 37 year old movie, that's quite something. This is definitely Ken Russell's BEST picture, although ALTERED STATES and CRIMES OF PASSION are close.
R.I.P. Ken Russell...

@kinkifreak She is a sexually rampant hunchback nun who serves the purpose of representing hypocracy in this film.
