  • When I was in the treatment clinic they said no tats no piercing and no gum and other crap but I wasn't listing

  • but of course polly broke the rules, but whtas so bad that she got herself a tattoo ? i mean it doesn't effect her ED does it ?

  • "I wanna lose at least 40 more pounds" I have been bulimic for 4 years, and I have one thing to say. Britney is INSANE and doesnt deserve to be let out of the clinic!

  • RIP Polly <3 I hope the feel guilty

  • Alisa really just kills me, it seems like she's putting on an act.

  • and why the fuck the camera crew just let her purge?!! after all she's in hospital...

  • @sasys8n number one rule in documentary film making is that you are an observer and you cannot interfere with the subject. It is the same reason why filmmakers don't stop lions from eating the zebra

  • control is what their behaviour was about , when polly left alisa saw an oportunitty to win approval and power , the psychologists are very stupid how could they not rationalise that or see that 'turning it into a positive place' especially when an illness of that nature is brought upon for a desire for approval and obsessed need for control. polly was fucked and very set in her ways and that institution or 'clinic' is nothing more than a sorority that doesnt allow them to mature.

  • omg Brittany:,(

  • I LOVE ALISA

  • look what they made her do.when she made herself sick i wanted to kill them

  • @alicedee100 they didn't make her do anything. She made a choice to deal with the emotions that way...just goes to show how sick Polly really is

  • I really dislike Alissa. Holy shit.

  • The USA health system is just unreasonable! How can they let psychiatric patient out of the clinic just because their insurance coverage is over? This is outrageous...!

  • How long after polly was kicked out did she die..? How did she pass?

  • @ClythiaMysticka she killed herself in 2008

  • This is horrible. I feel so bad for Polly. She was far from fully recovered, and they kick her out because she's a bad seed?

  • rest in peace polly x

  • I feel like no one is leaving that place better

  • @PeaceNdLovee I feel the same, this place is so fucked up i think they need to checked up on i think cus there doing somin wrong

  • @PeaceNdLovee treatment is where you learn how to "do" your ED better

  • that binge was so professionally done. she needed help and they turned their backs on her.

  • woah i just cried so much. this is beyond fucked up.

  • as if kick polly out when someone is paying them for her to be there..

  • Getting a tattoo for the symbol of recovery is negative?!

  • They kicked her out, because she broke the rules and had bad additude.

If you go into treatment, whatever reason, whatever place, you DO obey the rules of the place and behave proper or you DO get kicked out.

    Thats clear.

    No excuses with it.

It's either deal with it or leave.

  • totally unprofessional, nice therapists

  • Made me cry this time around, watching Polly get kicked out... knowing what happened to her in the end... wondering if she might still be with us today if she'd had even just one extra chance at Renfrew.

  • I am glad i watched this!!!...that is the worst renfew place EVER!!!!!!!...

  • kicking polly out was complettttttely wrong. they should have at least transferred her to another institution or clinic that could have dealt with the entire span of her problems better than they could. Wow. I almost got sent here too.

  • I think Polly had more than an eating disorder. She seemed to have such a problem dealing with authority figures. Her psychiatrist did not fully diagnose her problems. Kicking her out of the program was not the answer. She clearly needed help for more than an eating disorder.

  • I cannot believe Polly died. I used to think of her strength when I was doing poorly, and now...

  • why is a tattoo bad??????????????????? WTF! thats just...wow..this documentary angers me

  • @Katharine777 it is a rule at almost all treatment centers, no piercings or tattoos. I am more shocked no gum, but they can drink coffee?

  • It's so sad watching this knowing that Polly died.

  • They threw her out because her behaviour was adversely effecting the other girls there. They had every right to do it.

  • I bet the staff members are feeling pretty guilty about kicking her out now...

  • What's disturbing to me is that these ''grown'' women act like teenage girls. They're women in their mid to late 20's yet they act as though they're in seventh grade and treat this treatment center like a sorority and don't actually fully mentally commit to their recovery or take the process seriously. Here they are forming cliques, talking back to staff, breaking any rule they possibly can - it just all seems so juvenile. Maybe they've mentally regressed a bit.

  • Nobody in this f***ed up institution could've been able to be in those girls shoes EVER!!! they were outsider observers with absolutely no care whatsoever for any of those beautiful ladies, just their insurance money. THEY FUCKING DISGUST ME!!!!

  • I was so sad to hear Polly died, all she needed was people to support her and they threw her out! she made Life in that Center tolerable for most of the girls...

  • Cameras or not.

  • I don't feel sorry for Polly. She gets kicked out and makes a B line for the toilet? That isnt "I have an issue" that's "I want attention"...

  • @MyBarbaricYAWP22 I can understand not feeling sorry for her, but the thing is it was probably a bit of both. It's tough enough to break the habit and keep it broken, (no matter the habit) and it's especially hard when you're going through something very stressful or emotionally painful.

  • kicking polly out was total blatant HOG WASH!!! seams like they want to take away all their rights and become stupid robots.

  • @kountrygirls1 NO they want them to be normal people.

  • Alyssa annoys me.

  • How did she make herself purge so readily without even sticking her fingers down her throat? It's never been that easy for me. :/

  • @mortuseon I know! I actually felt jealous that she was able to do that... I feel terrible for thinking that way. I attempted recovery four times, and eventually failed at each. I hope you get better soon. Easier said than done. xo

  • I think polly gave more positivity to the community than the staff realised. She was brutally honest and broke rules, but broke them in a good way. Smoking in the bathrooms is better than hiding food, so they had their little rebellion without harming anyone. And the tattoos were the most positive thing anyone had done. People needed her spirit...it was a mistake to kick her out.

  • Almost unbearable how they threw Polly out and how the mother reacted.

  • What a lot of you fail to realize is that this is an open clinic - people agree to stay and to follow the strict rules of the program. They are not bound here, or forced to stay, or any of the things the inpatients tend to suggest - each one willingly walked through the doors. Polly broke at least five or six HUGE rules of the program in the course of the documentary alone; she became a liability to the health and safety of the other patients. It's sad that she died, but she had this coming.

  • Polly's purging is almost like she was saying "You kicked me out, fine, I'll make myself sick again, just watch". I feel badly for her, but she shouldn't have said "I just got kicked out, thanks a lot you guys" like it was their fault. She had so much going for her, intelligient, pretty and fun. It's sad that she didn't survive.

  • Insurance running out and rampantly breaking the rules are not the fault of the staff. What is so hard to grasp about this concept?

  • @jennpenn5 I agree 100%. Who knows what might happen to the facility's license to treat if the media gets hold of them turning a blind eye to drugs being shared, controlled substances even. Next thing you know the DEA is conducting an investigation and it's headline news. Plus, the cameras were already rolling in the making of this show

  • @jennpenn5 I mean really, were the staff's rules so hard to follow? The staff asks of them so little, don't sneak out, we want to know where you are, don't share your prescriptions, don't break the law in our building.

  • Shame on that facility. Shame on them.

  • These people aren't responsible for Polly committing suicide. What these pieces of garbage did was evil yes but they didn't drive her to kill herself. She did that for reasons that had nothing to do with this treatment center. I don't know what those reasons were. I can see she wasn't a "bad egg," just a person suffering from addiction, which does cause people to behave irrationally. RIP Polly.

  • wow that was triggering. sad though. 1:40

  • also, to a previous comment... women with eating disorders can often act immature at times, so saying she should have known better for breaking rules is stupid. They have a mental and eating disorder and people in the comments are acting like they can just get better without any fuss. Also, I believe Polly did wan't to get better... she was up to 114 ibs last we saw, and that was a huge improvement... if she didn;t want to get better I don't think she would have got as far as she did.

  • guys it takes so much courage to admit you need help... polly was in that centre for like, 9 weeks... that's a very short time in the grand scheme of things and I truly believe if they hadn't kicked her out when they did, she could have lasted longer, if not survived completely. Yes she broke rules, but they should have looked past that. They threw her out in the deep end, when she hadn't recovered and would have been bitter about her time at the centre... no wonder she wen't downhill.

  • During the Community Group scene where Alisa is talking the camera gets face shots of many of the women. Even though they have different body shapes and sizes you can see that they all have pale faces and look tired. Eating disorders are physically damaging no matter what your weight is.

  • they threw Polly out that is beyond Fucked up!!

  • @ZendayaXx0 she gave another patient medicine and snuck off and got tattoos what are you so surprised about?

  • @ClythiaMysticka plus smoking in the bathroom. I am sure there maybe other things too.

  • Comment removed

  • @ZendayaXx0 Utilitarian, sacrifice one for the good of many.

  • @ZendayaXx0 she deserved it.

  • I can't believe people are freaking out over her getting kicked out. She was putting others at risk because of her behavior, not because she needed an attitude adjustment. And as for getting transferred, she said herself she didn't want to because she wanted to keep her therapist. Renfrew didn't kill her, she was responsible for her own death. She was given every opportunity to receive help and she fucked herself over. Now everybody sit the fuck down.

  • @MidoriCrayon IF A PERSON REALLY WATED HELP, THEY WOULDNT LET ANYONE ELSE NEGITIVELY EFFEECT THEM... I THINK POLLY WASNT READY TO LEAVE BECAUSE SHE WASNT MENTALLY HEALTH AND THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SIGN TO RENFREW THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE KEPT HER FOR A WHILE LONGER SINCE MENTAL ISSUSE PLAY A ROLE IN ANOREXIA..I THINK THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HER DEATH PARTIALLY...POLLY NEEDED HEALP AND FOR OBVIOUSE REASONS SHE WAS THEIR.

  • The last scene is very sad to watch because thats how people with eating disorders really feel inside. Also the woman whose 28 and was talking about her boyfriend saying he might have to bury her in 5 years was so so sad, i almost started to tear up when i heard that

  • @MidoriCrayon You obviously don't know what anorexia is. It is a disease, drinking is not.

  • @MidoriCrayon In addition, if Polly didn't want to get better, why would she CHOOSE to go. You don't choose to got if you don't want to get better. You don't waste money, just because you don't want to get better learn some common sense.

  • @MidoriCrayon She wanted to get better, and admitted she screwed up and was willing to make an attidude adjustment. It wasn't just her breaking the rules, (which was only about 2 more unique things) it was her attitude. They didn't like it. Anorexia is very serious, and when they throw someone out because of a few stupid rules being broken and needing an attitude adjustment, then it technically is their faults. Also, it was only Shelly and Kylie who got "sucked in".

  • @MidoriCrayon No, you are WRONG. She was completely willing to change, be more honest, and most of all try and recover. "The Team" refused to help. THEY REFUSED TO HELP. R-E-F-U-S-E-D!!!!! They technically did cause her death by not helping. It's an eating disorder centre, and if someone has an eating disorder they are supposed to help them with there problems. And students are required to go to school, even if they don't want to learn, BTW.

  • @AnaXisXmyXfriend You can't help someone who won't help herself. And Polly Williams obviously didn't want to be helped; in fact, she didn't seem to take the whole thing seriously. I mean, getting a fucking tattoo while your life and health are at stake! She shouldn't have been there in the first place if she thought she could break rules and get away with it.

  • how did polly die?

  • @JdorexoxoDanser She wasn't recovered when they kicked her out. So, she wen't back to her anorexic (with bulimic tendencies) ways, she got to such a low weight that she died. She needed an attitude adjustment and they could have worked on it there, but "The Team" refused and practically killed her. They should be sued and shut down. Towards the beginning, there were pictures of the in-patients and the recovered patients. Recovered patients was like 5 people. Therefore you can tell Renfew sucks.

  • I know polly is dead, but i still think about her. Wish i could have been friends with her. She seemed really intelligent and special.

  • Health insurance in the Satates is SO FUCKED!!!!!!

  • That is so amazingly stupid of this center, they are supposed to help those who want it, and sometimes it takes awhile, you don't just let them go, yeah she did things wrong, but even she knew it was her last chance at life here, and its terrible that they turned their backs on her, that is not acceptable, at all. These places get money for helping others, Polly wanted help, otherwise she wouldn't have fought to stay there, if she didn't want the help, she could have signed herself out. R.I.P<3

  • I agree with Bloodygeek1

  • Who would the person filimg let her purge?!

  • @AllysPonAndZi Because it's a documentary, they aren't suppose to interfere.

  • They kicked her out because she had a bad attitude.. She wasn't in the centre because she needed an attitude adjustment, she was there because she was sick and needed help regardless of her personality or attitude, they should have gone out of their way to help her or tatleast transfer her... When someone has issues and a eating disorder the last thing they need is to be rejected from their last hope at life..because they didn't get her to a stable condition when she left she's died

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic I think they had to blame here for her behavior even though it was caused by her illness cause to do otherwise would have been to admit that they hadn't fulfilled their responsibilities in caring... for example she should have been taking the medication under supervision, they shouldn't have taken the other girl of all medications without adequate support, and she should have had a safe environment to confess without consequences. They are just another money making business.

  • @fitFix007 Are you addled? She screwed again and again and again. They said in order to join they need to make positive choices and Polly did not do that, and caused a lot of problems. So, who really doesn't care, huh?

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic She had multiple chances and she screwed up. She lied, had others lie for her, and lied for others, those are destructive behaviors.

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic

    i AGREE.

  • @nicolecritelli dont they understand that is what will throw her back again..

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic For someone to know that another is sick, and they have the ability to help that person, even if its going to be hard, to turn that person out because they just 'don't want to deal with a bad egg' is sick. They are sick human beings and should never be allowed to practice again.

  • @BrittanyClaireMusic they were wrong in throwing her out but they didnt throw her out because she had a bad attitude, it was because she could've killed someone else. witht hte medication she gave her.

  • They kicked her out because she had a bad attitude.. She wasn't in the centre because she needed an attitude adjustment, she was there because she was sick and needed help regardless of her personality or attitude, they should have gone out of their way to help her or tatleast transfer her... When someone has issues and a eating disorder the last thing they need is to be rejected from their last hope at life..because they didn't get her to a stable condition when she left she's now dead.

  • When Jen and Brittany were sharing, I cried.

  • I HATE THESE PEOPLE!! THEY ARE NOT PROFESSIONALS!!

  • Polly is so immature. She has nobody but herself to blame for getting kicked out. She gave another patient medication, got a tattoo, smoked in her room, ect......she constantly broke the rules. I am so angry at her for blaming other people for what she did.......and to top it all off she goes in her bathroom and purges, like in a way to get back at them for kicking her out like "See what you made me do?", No responsibility. Polly makes taking this disease seriously harder for me.

  • why was polly kicked out?

  • @RachelPapp Giving another patient medication and getting a tattoo, lying, ect........

  • Alisa is awesome. I hope she makes it.

  • WTF? They kicked her out? THey knew she had problems HENCE Why she is there BUT THEY KICKED HER OUT???? OMFG WHY KIND OF SUPPORTIVE PLACE IS THAT!!

  • Oh I just love Alisa<3

  • how can they filim her puring???

  • @Bloodygeek1 They just can?

  • @Aurorified

i think they should have tried to stpp her from purging

    than just standing there

    you dont agree??

  • @Aurorified

do u not think they should have stopped her?

  • @Bloodygeek1 It's not their job to stop her and interfere. It's their job to film. Stopping her would take away the realness of the documentary.

  • @Aurorified

so you think a documentary is more important than a human being???

    man thats pathetic

  • @Bloodygeek1 Dude have you ever watched the MTV show True Life? They film junkies shooting up drugs and people cutting themselves, ect........if they STOPPED them then the whole point of the documentary would be ruined. It's to show US what THEY are going through. It's not the camera mens jobs to interfere!

  • @Aurorified

so peoples entertainment is more important than helping people who need it

    thats sick!

  • @Bloodygeek1 Are you a complete idiot? Do you even know what a documentary is? I'm through talking with an idiot.

  • @Aurorified

    ur the fucking idiot!!!

peoples lifes are more valuble than putting on a show for fuckers like u !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Bloodygeek1 Wow you really ARE retarded. Are you aware of shows like Intervention, Addicted, True Life, and all those other reality shows? With your logic those shows shouldn't even exist. Those people SIGNED UP to be FILMED. They know the camera men are not going to interfere, that would ruin the whole point of why they signed up in the first place, to warn people of the dangers of their behavior. Telling Polly to stop purging would not have done ANYTHING for ANYONE. She would still purge!

  • @Aurorified

    idiot

if somone bleeds to death , its ok to let them annd filim it because they signed up for it

man you must have brain damage

  • @Bloodygeek1 Bleeding to death and purging are 100% different things. You really need to look up the word DOCUMENTARY, which is what you're watching right now you blind idiot. I'm SOOOOOO done with you. I've never had such a retarded conversation before.

  • @Aurorified

    fuck off

    and grow a brain

    look up human value retard

  • @Bloodygeek1 Look up the word DOCUMENTARY and stop replying to me, you're just embarrassing yourself.

  • @Aurorified

    fuck off!!!

    you know nothing

  • @Bloodygeek1 I know you're retarded.

  • @Aurorified

you dont havw the IQ ro know

  • @Bloodygeek1 You can't even spell or type correctly. Nobody is going to take you seriously. BYE!

  • @Aurorified

    fucking dumb ass

  • @Bloodygeek1 I reported you toYoutube for harassment.

  • @Aurorified You should be reported for reporting someone who was just sharing the truth.

  • @Beaveljeez That's not the truth though, it's called a documentary for a reason.

  • @Aurorified You don't think that it's the truth that people are in control of their own actions? People do things that have consequences and she did things that just happened to result in consequences. She didn't want to follow the rules and the staff has to keep the safety of the community in mind. People go into treatment facilities thinking that they can make their own rules but that's not the way it works. It's not fair to blame the staff when she chose to make the choices that she made.

  • @Beaveljeez I never once blamed the staff, in fact, I said everything you just said. I have no idea what you're referring to.

  • @Aurorified

go get a brain then come back to me

  • my god brittany is fucking gross.. go wash ur hair dirtbag.. the only reason shes so sick is because of her fucked up mother

  • at 5:03 what the hell is that girl doing in the back round

  • Renfrew should be sued for being responsible for Polly's death. This isn't so much a documentary about anorexia as it is about a total failure of America's healthcare system.

  • @wonderlustqueen Oh, please! There were in NO WAY responsible for her death. SHE was responsible for her death. Her and her alone.

  • @wonderlustqueen If I could thumbs up this 1,000 times I Would <3

  • The girl with blue shirt...always wearing her makeup on....always the most positive....I don't think she has a problem. Actually...she has a nice body, nice legs, breasts...she's the least thin of them all. o.O ??????

  • Comment removed

  • @BeniPAK I know but.....she is not veeeeeeery thin :\

I cannot understand how they throw up and still have some weight on...anorexic people are skinny but boulimic...not too much :\

  • Comment removed

  • @BeniPAK sorry I didn't mean to say that she is not sick. I google it every day. :) I am slowly developing an eating disorder myself. :\Not eating etc etc...............so......I wanted to say that she looks healthy..although she isn't obviously.

  • @BodyartCat

Bulimics can still be overweight because purging doesn't always get rid of all the food. Especially if you're purging via diuretics or laxatives, diuretics just lose water weight and laxatives you lose waste of food you've already mostly absorbed.

If you're vomiting you might not get all of it up, so you'll still absorb calories. Especially if you binge a huge amount, thousands and thousands of calories. If you're throwing up your mouth/cheeks get kind of swollen too.

  • I think that Polly was going to get better. That's why she got a day out in the city...because she was doing well. So what if she got a tattoo??? It's not like she went out to McDonalds and purged afterwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A TATTTOO!!!!! What the h*ll ??? And yeah...she really had a friend !!!! Polly said she was smoking alone...and her so called "friend" admitted in a way that Polly got a tattoo. Polly could have been better. I believe that. My prayers go to her, God bless you Polly.

  • @BodyartCat She's dead now.

  • @usandthewolves I know. I wrote it wrong. I wanted to say God takes care of her because she was a sweet person a good friend... God is with her.

  • Alyssa seems to have a lot of "fleeting moments".

  • There needs to be more funding. It's sad that so many people can't get help for eating disorders because of it's great financial expense, even with insurance. some people still are ignorant to the fact that eating disorders are serious diseases that require intense treatment.

  • I think that they shouldve done something sooner about this little clique. Because it was a real disservice to all of their treatment. Although this is the most uncompliant bunch of people Ive ever seen. You have the power to get better, you just have to work at it, I know from personal experience it can be done. Not like its all over LOL im still fighting the good fight.

  • Alyssa seems kind of fake.

  • The sad thing is that Polly did die after this show. Goes to show how terrible eating disorders really are.

  • How this could have been avoided: Shelly could have told the team, "I'm not going to tell you who gave me the pills. I'm going to get the person who did to tell you." Instead the little witch used Polly's trust and good nature to benefit herself.

Shelly is a nasty piece of work.

  • @lesterclaypool1 you're a nasty piece of work for judging Shelly without knowing her and what her situation is. Do you ever do things without thinking of other ways to handle the situation? then think back later and say to yourself I could have handled that differently. WE ALL DO. STOP JUDGING.

  • @loved2bethin

Do you know her other than reading her blog, something that I've read as well and what convinces me of the fact that she was manipulative pre ED? Than you shouldn't talk.

  • @lesterclaypool1 Please don't speak ill of people when you don't know them.... YOU DON'T KNOW HER. I don't either... but I'm not talking down on her. GROW UP!

  • I am just wondering, being from the Netherlands and knowing nothing about the US system... does this treatment get paid for by insurance? If so,.. Polly would be able to go to another clinic, wouldn't she? Sorry for my ignorance...

  • @calinnero I gave you a thumbs up, because I want to know the answer to your question, too... :) I'm from Germany, so I think we both have the same healthcare system, but I know in America they don't... but I don't know how it works.

  • @finnieminnie Polly did have health insurance but it ran out

  • @EmptyInside1509 But you see, where I live health insurance literally doesn't run out. So, I'm not sure what it means .. is it that after it runs out you have to pay ALL costs yourself? And how long does the health insurance last then?

  • @finnieminnie

In the states you can buy health insurance to compensate the socialized health insurance that doesn't exist for the middle and upper classes. How long it lasts and what it covers depends on how good of a policy you've purchased. To attend Renfrew these families would have had very good health insurance, as eating disorder treatment isn't covered by most carriers, but it still wasn't enough.

  • @lesterclaypool1 Dear lord, that is awful, I wonder why the health system in America is so bad. I'm glad I don't live there.

  • @finnieminnie

You're in Germany, Natasha (I'm just gessing from some of the comments on your page)?

I'm oin Canada, now, and the national health care system here is based on the British model which makes it very similar to your country, but our treatment for eating disorders still isn't adequate. I work in addiction treatment and local doctors often send their ED patients to us, even though we aren't really adequately suited to treat them.

  • @lesterclaypool1 My family moved here from Britain because of the health care system not being good enough there. I'm really appreciating Germany right now :)

  • @finnieminnie

Yeah, sadly for forming the socialized healthcare model that most of us adhere to the British NHS has gone downhill in the last decade.

Germany is beautiful and the people are nice. You will enjoy it there :).

  • @calinnero It's not covered and from what I know if you already have an ED you are uninsurable

  • @lizzieish Her name is Jennifer, I wish they showed her in the documentary a lot more, has anyone heard anything about how Jennifer is doing?

  • The issue with the tattoo wasn't what it was or even the fact that it was a tattoo. It was that they hid something from their team who was trying to help them. Deception was the problem, and it obviously, for Polly, was a bigger issue than just getting a small body modification.

  • brittany is so sweet :)

  • The same can be said about Norwegian healthcare where hypocrasi is primary priority...
