  • The Pleasure Seekers are the best punk band ever.

  • the slits, babes in toyland , best all female groups, and the sexiest!

  • I think L7 are the best female punk band.

  • this is a great woman band...not Heart

  • It's unique in the US. No one knows about some girl groups in UK. No one ever heard about The Mo-dettes. They were like the brilliant little "vagina" that couldn't. The Slits held sway, yet it was only one year later that their demise was unceremoniously left to posterity. Being left behind on the historical books, Au Pairs got away with being 2 boy-2 girl. They contributed some on rock's most interesting son

gs. It's funny how their music remains the standard we still attest to.

  • london calling to the faraway towns

  • This would be a HOT M.I.A. remix!!!

  • Properly fab!

  • i think bjork stole her playful retarded spirit from the slits and somehow made it more retarded!

  • @TheCrypticjosh i think you rname is Thecrypticjosh you huge loser idiot hahahahaha

  • @TheCrypticjosh quiet bitch

  • I wanted to hear some other Slit songs just so I wouldn't be too judgmental of them based on when I heard them in the early 80's. Yeah they still suck.

  • Love you Ari! R.I.P. you'll carry the same tude wherever you go!

  • punks not dead, it just smells funny

  • I'm not really a punk fan, but i would rather believe that punk enjoyed a flaming spectacle of a death sometime around 1982 than think it lived on as a crippled invalid for the last 30 years.

  • Viv Albertine is such an underrated guitarist

  • Punk is half alive.

  • I love this song. I just bought a 2-CD Slits compilation the other day, and my entire family is spellbound by several of these songs. I love Tessa's bass lines, Viv's sparkling guitar, and am always fascinated by Ari's vocals.

Rest in Peace Ari. We love you down here.

  • ari hat alas god bless darling... eric's in liverpool such a long time ago... night night sweetheart............ x andrewmorganx@yahoo.co.uk

  • punk is a D.I.Y (do it yourself) mentality tied in with an explosion in cheaper accessible technologies with which to create art. Therefore it can be stated with absolute certainty that we are living in the most punk of times you cyber freaks! I don't need no $10 000 piano. So punk ain't dead it is just absolutely mainstream. There are no barriers to entry. Now go and upload your nicely edited porno.

  • RIP ARI UP

  • punk is dead

  • @cooparooca as long as we still have these recordings and you were a part of the moment it still lives on inside one's head & heart!

  • RIP Ari! All the best to you and your family! Thank you for bestowing your BEAUTY upon us. You will always be remembered. live on!

  • Rest In Power Ari!

  • 20 octobre, triste jour mais quels souvenirs tu laisseras !

  • R.i.P, Ari...

  • R.I.P. Ari Up

  • Just read she died RIP Ari Up

  • RIP ARI UP

  • come to brasil

  • The Slits! STILL the coolest band ever!!!

  • why does it say this is so tough at the start? don letts rules

  • Cut is such an awesome... jungly, stony, weirdo reggae-punk-tribal-something-or-other album. Truly innovative, wild, rebellious girls, and the phenomenal Budgie on drums.

  • Unique sound - still sounds current!

  • Why aren't there videos such as 'Hey, big spender'?

  • such beautiful sounds, such beautiful girls

  • Shame on you world for not buying their records in their heyday. Shame on you for ignoring them when they were here and doing it for real. Shame on you for letting them go to waste. I ask why??? Is it cos they did the rock and reggae thing toether??? Is that why? These ladies rock and they reggae and shame on you world for not seeing how great they were/are...

  • @davejive "remember when" is the least form of conversation.

  • @davejive Dude, back then MTV wasn't playing them often enough, and the way they aired music, they wouldn't repeat it. So, for myself, I really wasn't aware of them until a random chance of checking out their cd at Virgin Megastore in the year 2006 in San Francisco.

  • i was talking about the actual song,y know on the album, which was badly mixed, these videos i bet are very hard to find

  • jeez i like this song but whoever mixed this totally tried to butcher the song really

  • Haha, I agree. It feels like I'm listening to a copy of a copy of a copy of a VHS. There needs to be more hi-fi stuff on youtube.

  • might be about jah wobble, if im not completely mistaken

jah wobble and sid both actually

    i dunno

look it up in jon savage's "england's dreaming"

    might be there?

  • It's about Keith Levene.

  • @cinnmcrickson everythings about keith levene these days

  • i only just found out this song is about sid vicious

  • Pretty sure it's about Keith Levene, actually.

  • Yep :) according to Ari its about Keith and Sid Viv write the words- self destructing boymen lol

  • West London class

  • Comment removed

  • Skateboards were invented in the 50s. Look it up.

  • did i see a skateboardthhh...and the year was....

  • Bullshit.

  • You asswipe .....

    BASEMENT 5 RULES

  • punk died with mickey mouse...oh he still alive then

  • this music always made me thing of the jungle. this non jungle themed video is traumatic

  • how so? the shaggs could barely play anything at all, although I do love them.

  • laslitsylasraincoatssonbacanesss

  • AWOMEN TO THAT!

  • parts of this are in 5/4, very unusual for reggae/ska/punk stuff

  • really interesting track right??? digging these chicks..

  • david berman is an america poet, yes I know my friend ! vis ta vie et do it youself !

    ledrom

  • this' to much for me!!!! ja!

  • palmolive went fucking batshit crazy. She now talks to jesus.

  • Palmolive used to be joe strummer's "girlfriend"

  • This and other early footage is from Slits Pictures a mini film of 40 minutes made by Don Letts after the Cut album was released.

Love to see it given a release.

  • WITH GIRLS PUNK'S NOT DEAD . LEDROM

  • " Punk died when the first punk said,'punk's not dead.'" --David Berman

  • 4 days previous .. but I still love the graffitti " punks not dead Jackie " still near baker street ! ?

  • Punk is whatever the fuck you want it to be. It doesn't die, it doesn't live. Putting something in a box then labeling it "punk" doesn't automatically make it good. If it's "dead" or not, music is music and if it hits you somewhere good, then go with it.

  • Punk didn't die, it just got older, started a family, and got a real job. It still hates its boss, and wants to shag, and do drugs, and it would, if it didn't have to get up at 8:00 the next morning for work at 9:00.

  • Dude, win. :D

  • @Valkes you said it man! The original punks are still here just older! Damit to be young again!

  • @alejandro15187

That's a stupid journalist sort of thing to say and band members from many types of music have said that only journalists get into such stupid, heavy theoretical none-sense as they (non performers) try to be something in the music world with such crap. It leaves Punk and it's enthusiasts with no-defense due to it's deliberate logic bind. Berman was also a musician but here he messes up and deliberately tries to make it limited to...... why am i bothering

  • @alejandro15187 And how the F**K would you know!

  • @alejandro15187

that's when punk died in THAT punk, but punk has never had to pull a jesus, it's lived on this whole time, just in other punks

  • Budgie Clark gets off the bus at 1:24 and then you can see him on the balcony.

  • He's in the typical girls video to lol, he always looks so cheerfull

  • yeah, cave girl running, that´s just my favourite thing to do

  • HAH same here

  • Where and when did this video first air? The Slits are soooo sexy! thanks for posting this.

  • Im not sure but there Album, Cut, came out in the end of 1979.

  • I've been listening to this album regularly since it first came out - never tire of it. The 'Peel Sessions' version is even better.

  • Don Letts..rad!

  • Inspired by the clash

  • ok what is that intro part about and where can i find a full length version of it?

  • @asleepzzz There is a low-budget LP released on Y records in the early 1980s. Its got 12 or 13 home recordings of the slits on it. The tape machine they were using has some sort of compressor on it, so the volume is up and down all over the place and the general quality is poor. However it is the slits and you do get another 3 or 4 recordings from their punk incarnation. Think of it as a collection of demos. Y records also released stuff by the POP Group and New Age Steppers (slits affiliates)

  • I'm getting very interested i these guys....they're SO different to anything else! And they're girls, tis inspirational..I'm gonna buy Cut

  • cut'll be one of thee best lp's you ever buy..

  • Good glance at Thatcherite England ...

Guess Courtney Love & Bjork learned a little something or two from these chickitas ...

  • No, thats Suggs from madness!

  • I thought I spotted David Hinds at one point.

  • Is that Joe Strummer at the end there?

  • Bought the cd in 2002, in downtown SF (VirginMega) store, never heard of them though I did note they were in the Punk Rock movie but unknown to me as was the video a first time viewing for me. First 5 seconds of Instant Hit I kept playing over 50 x. Astonished by just those few notes and the rest is audio ecstacy.

  • They remastered the album in 2005...very well too. I agree its amazing how so few elements make such an interesting sound.

  • Some of the best music ever made.

  • OI OI OI!!!!!!!!

  • The songs about Keith Levene of PiL; says so in the album. GREAT song. Please tour soon, women!

  • WELCOME BACK SLITS!!! They are getting back together!

  • Dumb question: Who's the one with the hat? Ari or Tessa?

  • That's Ari-Up, mon.

  • Hey-even Budgie's in there for a second. This is another wild thing to find in here---Classic film. Classic record.

  • is it about keith levene?.....Hit,*cough*...?

  • i thought the song NEW TOWN was about sid as those lyrics sound more in tuned with sids life Newtown Where everybody goes around sniffing televisina Or taking footballina Newtown (xn) Gimme 'nother fix (x2) If not I'll go sick I'll be sick (x2) Morning paper bring you something--flash! Make your bones shake Keep busy your mind
  • thanks lots...i love the slits....

  • yay!!

  • PS This song is supposedly about Sid Vicious - listen to the lyrics.......

  • ..actually it's about keith levene. "so tough" is about sid

  • Terrific! Where are the rest of Don Lett's Slits Pictures? Fantastic stuff!

  • BTW, This video is not called So Tough... It's called INSTANT HIT.

  • YES YES YES.
