  • Why debate on the phone, I'm solar celluar

  • "niggas thinkn' shit sweet , i carry big heat" - fuckin genius

  • P kills this shit fuck!

  • This song should have a video.

  • This song was originally going to be on Hell on Earth, but Nas asked/paid Mobb to use it on It Was Written. Prodidgy's verse on here was originally going to be used on " LA LA ," but he scratched it off there for whatever reasons. That's why there are a lot of Cali references on here.

Never the less, this song is classic and is as hard as anything.

  • @isdesmondhume

I believe Pee said the verse was just too good to use on LA, LA. He wanted it on the album.

  • This was when P was in top form. Hell on Earth P most def is top 5 (not taking anything away from Infamous P) Son was droppin Gems n Jewels. He basically killed everything he was on and I just feel that in 96 P was at his best lyrically. Real headz know. Peace

  • @word2mutha rap in general peaked in 94-96

  • @KaratCake yea i already know that. I'm just recognizing what P was doing around that time

  • @word2mutha

    Couldn't agree more.

  • "From Queens accross the throgs neck" HA

Shout out to the " Throgs neck" Lol The whitestone can like my balls.

  • TOO UNDERRATED OF A SONG

  • @ThumbsUpMike You got that right, Thunn, Thunn!

  • 3 great rappers nas and mobb deep

  • And by the way all that racist stuff, this 2011 not 1864 lol

  • Lol all yall sayin nigger this and nigger that are not powerful enough to use the word. Cause you say it on youtube. Weak. I snuff a white boy in real life. Plus this is the end times you need to worry about getting into heaven. Everything the bible is predicting is true. Piece

  • @yaboytreyy the bible was written by man. wake up nigga!

  • @freewaykingscrews i woken up. that's why i don't type words like that on the computer, especially a youtube comment. as humans we need leaders. the teachers tells you what to do and you do it. man may have wrote the bible, but they needed a leader, God, and he spoke to them and they wrote it. Moses wrote Genesis and exodus, its a fact read the bible. And it specifically says the ten commandments of God that he wrote.

  • @yaboytreyy god is a myth.

  • @freewaykingscrews It's spelled with a capital G and no he's not

  • @yaboytreyy how do you know have you met him?ummm

  • @freewaykingscrews lol u sound silly cause evolution is a man made idea. what have you met darwon lol God is the truth true song. dont make me change a athiest to blue fog

  • @yaboytreyy its obvious the bible was written to control people! when god comes and saves us i will believe then but till then i am god!

  • @freewaykingscrews when God comes back it will be too late, you'll go to hell. read the bible. see that's the thing. i know darwins theory and the bible. you only know one side of the story. thats not intelligence. and its not obvious, your intelligence is limited to only what you can see in front of you. beyond the walls of "intelligence" life is defined

  • @yaboytreyy why did 'god let hitler put the jews in the oven?

  • @freewaykingscrews Because theres nothing without struggle. look at what happen to slaves, now we're presidents. and Jews are God's people

  • @yaboytreyy why do you have to get married to have sex?

  • @freewaykingscrews because sex is spiritual. thats why when you have sex with a girl especially if shes a virgin shes so attatched to you after. You're only supposed to do that with someone you're in love with and married, then it won't be so much drama after you have sex

  • @yaboytreyy Dude its relative, you dont have to be in love or be married to have sex, there isnt ALWAYS drama when you have sex with a girl if you know how to act and the girls not fuckin crazy. It sounds like your on some religous shit which is fine but obviously isnt for everyone (considering almost everyone does it). Plain and simple.

  • @yaboytreyy no sex is physical.. it feels great just cuz u fuck some girl doesn't mean u need to marry her ass.. ur crazy, you're stupid for mixin up love and sex

  • Spark one and listen to this WHOLE album, and you'll be glad you did

  • nas comes in harddd with his verse

  • fucking nigger

  • i dont care what all you say P killed it.

  • i don't give a damn what you all sat P killed this.

  • @Yanks777Jets75 no rapper or coast of the u.s.a. can be identified as the "best" because everyone's style is different and different ppl have different views of rappers, i personally think that east coast rap is lyrically better than west coast but west coast be shittin

  • @Yanks777Jets75 well idk bout all tht

  • im white should i listen to this ?

  • @declan765 absolutely, i don't care what color you are, this IS hip hop

  • Nas's verse is one of hip hop's best

  • new york rap is lyrically the best in my opinion

  • @brickstrocker you never heard french rap that's why! :p

  • @brickstrocker def the east coast have a great lyricallys.. but west coast too like 2pac & ice cube... ny have da best producers.. xtra P, Primo, Pete Rock, The Bomb Squad, rick rubin, The RZA, Erick Sermon, Easy Mo Bee!!!

  • N.Y.C "'U.N. I' Verse so seriously" has so much meaning to our 5% communities!

  • @Slybbds I knew it's a 5% term, but whats the meaning?

  • @KaratCake In the Nation of Gods and Earths teachings, 'Universe' has very great meaning and cannot be simply explained in such short context but roughly 'many in cycle as one.' or you(U) and(N), I or me(I) Together(Verse). do some research and check it out. :)

  • @Slybbds good looking out allah

  • @MayhemTheEloheem No doubt king

  • Rappers don't rap like this no more lol

  • he's the illuminati

  • @AdenAgnostic yeah so what ....

  • @AdenAgnostic i thought he made a song recently abt antilluminati

  • prodigy is always ill fuck all that yaya bull shit

  • yo at this point of his career prodigy WAS ONE of the best MC's on the whole East Coast. His lyrics, flow, delivery...just flawless... Havoc's beat is monumental and Nas' verse is h1d1

  • @RayRay thats a pretty strong statement. Illmatic set the bar too high for nas, so alot are gonna say it was his only good album. Everything else didn't add up to the same amount as illmatic in artistic potentcy

  • grimmy fucking beat!

  • a flawless verse by nas

  • this shit go hard

  • In my opinion, It Was Written gives Illmatic a run for it's money. Although Illmatic carries a mystique with it, being the best Debut album ever in the history of Rap, It Was Written resides it's in shadow because of this. It Was Written if it had been released before Illmatic, probably in my opinion would have had the notoriety that Illmatic has. Nas is truly a genius, he had back to back masterpieces

  • @myth6727 Very well said. I agree 100%.

  • Man hip-hop used to be so raw.

My theory is back when "gangsta rap" hit the scene, it was profitable to make music that painted an intimate picture of the projects, strife, crime, etc. Then either artists or industry folk or both realized there was a bigger market to be had by expanding the sound and subject matter (for the worse) into the pop market..

  • @caseycurran i don't think the musik moved away from gangsta rapism tho! fifty only speaks about gangsta shit, but his sound is pop because he made it more glamourous! less grimmy dirty and shit! but on the rest your definitly right! sadly there are very few sounds like this one out there any more!

  • Unfortunately almost everyone in the industry (including most of our old 90's favourites) went along for the ride when they thought they could make more money in the process.

  • Best hiphop song ever.

it had to come to Mobb Deep's best instrumental other than on their albums.

  • I actually liked It was Written more than Illmatic. Don't get me wrong, Illmatic is a fantastic album. It was written beautifully with excellent production. It was Written though, I felt Nas diversified his subject matter and was more creative with the work. That is just me though.

  • @AQGOAT24

Can't put it better than that.

  • @AQGOAT24 .....same bro , i enjoyed It was Written over Illmatic ...both amazing albums , in my eyes i rate both albums as "classic"

  • Nas made between 3-5 good albums but he only made one "Great" album. One person to come near that is Jay-z who unforunatley only had 2 good albums.

  • @NuMeskeetVideos reasonable doubt, blueprint, and black album were great albums to me... and i like nas a lot more than jay-z

  • Imagine if raekwon was on this track

  • real hiP hoP

  • Hip Hop....Enough said

  • Beside Biggie, Nas is the best. And I hate when ppl hate on Hip Hop Is Dead and The "N" albums, they fuckin dope BOYCOT SOUJA BOY AND LIL WAYNE!

  • @CallMeAfterWordS427 your right on everything but the biggie thing..Nas is hands down better than biggie..shit biggie gets played on mainstream radio now!

  • @CallMeAfterWordS427 Agree with you there 100%. Both those albums are dope. so is distant relatives. Nas is as good atm as he has ever been.

  • I preserve in my dome, niggaz mics is full of silicone

  • dis ill creation

    from the hiphop nation

    f*ck all the hatin'

    of real oldschool conversatin'

    f*ck commercial rap

    this is realler than that

    nasty nas got a brain

not like dat b*thch lil wayne

    new rap drives me insane

so i stick to the oldschool game

  • This shit is dope. Lyrics flow like a knife through butter

  • THIS SHIT IS SO FUCKIN HARD

i miss this time for hip hop esp nyc

dudes use to regulate and call out the fake

i vividly remember how it was here

shit is so damn soft now

  • every fucking song from nas is just awesome !

  • If you think African Americans voted for Obama the same way they say Nas is the best please put one hand up

  • prodigy's flow was ahead of its time on this track.

nas was trying too hard to sound lyrical here. "anthropologists dynasties and great knowledgists" that' s wack.

  • @northregent

    the mobb kills this

  • @northregent Stop dick handlin Boy

  • One of Nas' illest verses EVER!!

  • * niggas thinking shits sweet I carry big heat wavy hair chiped teeth.. up in this bitch deep* ..........niceeeeeee !!!

  • Real Hip Hop

  • it hurts me that one day kids in the future will ask who is nas, biggie, L an pac

  • @yin1 retarted kids my age don't even know big L and Nas,btw im 14

  • @scaroni39 good thing u know what it is

  • @scaroni39 which means YOU a g lol im 18 and a lotta people i know aint even heard of rakim, big daddy kane....they listen to young money n shit!

  • @xxjamaalxx lol i know right, the music industry is all a bunch of bullshit, with rappers and fucking lady gaga only working for the money, and thats the only good type of rap in the opinion of the crowd who listens to hip pop

  • niggaz think this shit sweet, i carry big heat

wavy hair, chipped teefffffffff up in this bitch deep

  • We like a smooth fam but rougher than how Debarge is

  • go listen to dubstep assholes

  • canibus is also good =]

  • Curriculum of a mathologist. Deep throats they try to swallow this. Anthropologist, dynasties of great knowledgists....... That right there just shows Nas' level of lyricism. Truly the GREATEST to ever spit. Fuckin ill!

  • such a dope track...Nas and mobb deep had such good collaborations they work good together

  • Illmatic,It Was Written,I AM, God's Son, Lost Tapes & Distant Relatives. All great albums. Nas is one of the greatest, theres nothin' one can say to dispute that.

  • @88Aldor Nigger is a good ass album too mad underrated...also stillmatic the only bad one really was like nastradomus

  • ayo jay-z and nas both two of the best to do it. no need to hate on higga

  • Nas had one BAD album, Nastradamus and that shit was not his fault. smh at anyone who actually thinks Nas is not one of the greatest to ever do it.

  • are you retarted, nastradamus was underrated .

  • Thats why i love NIGGAS !!! THEY ARE THE BEST !!!!

Sorry for my racism if it sounds like that but i like black people :) !!!

  • nas beasted this fuckin track.

  • Nas has many good albums fuckers

  • this is a classical song man everytime i listen i cant make my mind up on who went harder! i be like "dam prodigy killed that"....then i be like naaaw nas destroyed it....then i be like havoc took it.....mobb deep went harder than nas....naw nas went hardest lol this is like lyrics 101 for you bum ass rappers

  • this guy fuken sk

  • lolniggarap

  • Most people don't hear the intricacies of Nas's flow. They also don't understand half of the message. They could base college courses on his body of work.

  • Even though Illmatic is a brilliant and classic album, I enjoy listening to It Was Written even more. In my opinion, Nas is the greatest. Hands down.

  • @anfrws5 Real Talk son,

Anyone whos listened to untitled cant say that nas has fell of lyrically. Hes still lyrically raw its just that hes talking about different shit- he cant go on and talk about the same things all the time. Nas last album is fire- informing, educating and whatever about politics, freedom, stereotypes and many more things while

Jay Z is good he never gets out from his comfort zone in what he raps about thats just my opinion

  • @anfrws5 i hear that it was written is criminally underrated!

  • To all the haters, let me break this one down for you....

This track is one of the most underrated in hip hop.

Most people who start the song would not even be able to make it to Nas' verse, which is epic, probably cuz of the absence of "clothes and hoes." The simple loop works elegantly, and the climax in the production when the hook kicks in is dynamic. Very dark and gritty, representative of New York mindset.

  • QueensBridge Mutha Fucka!!

  • nas best albums

    1. Illmatic

    2. Stillmatic

    3. It was written

    4. Lost tapes

    5. I am....Autobiography

  • Nas' swag was fuckin thru the roof in his Escobar era....his flow, wordplay, delivery was so fuckin on point...Escobar season was the toughest

  • nas only had 2 good albums it was written and illmatic...both classics....all tracks are classic

  • awesome nigga song lmfao motherfucker

  • if your talking about illmatic then your probably a dickrider aka jay z fan lol this is nas best album hands down in my opinion ask jay z what his favourite nas song is (ether) lol

  • What the fuck?! Im a Jay-Z fan?! What? Is that how it is in your adolescent world, black and white? If ya dont like Nas, you're a Jay-Z fan? I'll leave ya to your internet thuggery fella, enjoy bussin' air caps to other e-thugs...

oh and go learn your hiphop history kiddo

  • lets flex some muscles what do you know about hip hop u said nas only had one good album if he only had 1 good album in your opinion how is he held in such high regard if that was the case that like me sayin jay only had 1 good album reasonable doubt? i dont argue with peoiple over the net im not 15 lol lets call it a debate try me?

  • Flex some muscle lol - you have to be a teenager. AGAIN, I am not, I REPEAT not a JayZ fan! Ok we clear? Nas is a great lyricist, no question. Illmatic is his best work to date. The beats and breaks used on his latter work is of a poor calibre in comparison to Illmatic. The combination of the producing done by DJ Premier, Large Professor, L.E.S Q-Tip, Pete Rock makes this a/his stand-out album.

  • Comment removed

  • I could go into Nas' high level of technical precision and rhetorical dexterity displayed on Illmatic which has been lacking in his subsequent work, Nas's lyricism and multi-syllabic internal rhyme patterns etc etc but ill prob bore you to death.

Let this one die man, its my opinion and its Youtube FFS! Pointless innit?

    Peace young grasshopper

  • technical precision your an idiot but wheres your history at your blabbering on about nonsense what is illmatic the only hip hop album you own lol i feel obligated to respond to people who obviously need to learn

  • im 21 let me tell you something when u get your information make sure its not so blatent u read it off a wikipedia page lol! your 31 if im correct and your a nas fan but according 2 you he has 1 good album so what is it was written? your a jackass why dont you list some other rappers u like so i can judge where your at because my rap knowledge extends back 2 slick rick big daddy kane rakim kool g rap epmd my preference is early to mid 90's though

  • @lukeslonergan Lol you told him. I can,t belive he thinks Nas only has one good album

  • If you think Nas had ONE good album, you dont know shit about hip-hop. Real talk.

  • yo u commented on the wrong dude im arguin with dude sayin nas had more than 1 good album lol this dude brendogg sayin illmatic the only good album check the comments???

  • @lukeslonergan lol. Mybad. Juss me bein lazy. Dude is trippin tho. In certain aspects It Was Written is better than Illmatic.

  • yh i personally prefer it was written cos its darker than illmatic wth some production from havoc and nas had grown abit and im 21 so mid 90's for me had alot of artists i like doing there thing nas,wu tang, mobb deep etc.. but yeah this dude dont know what hes talkin about 1 good album lol gotta be a jay z fan

  • yeah jay z sack riders just cuzz jigga said nas only had one hot album please fall back kick rocks etc

  • @RayRay3686 Like all his shits are Classic ESpecailly that DIstant relatives that shit is like almost on it is written status

  • @RayRay3686 atta b tell em watsup any nas album was a AMAZING album

  • @RayRay3686 All of his albums are good, Yes IMO... even Nastrudamas

  • @Korndude4561 I dont see why people hate on it. I've always thought it was an excellent album. It's because Nas switched his style every album. Not everyones gonna get down with Nas' topics and rhyming style. Which is cool, but I dig Nas to the fullest. I got questions about Nasir Jones the man though.

  • @RayRay3686 This album is better than most people's careers. The beats are ridiculous, and the lyrics are--put it like this. I have yet to hear a single rapper top Nas's performance on here, and this came out 15 years ago.

  • @spideymayne agreed

  • Niggas thnk that shit sweet, i carry big heat

    Wavy hair, chipped teeth

  • this is the shit

only i am worthy of these sick ass tunez

    everyone else fuck off

    tis is my page

all ova mofos on ma backyard get popped

    brap brap

  • this beat makes u fall in love with the Mobb and Nas. This is when all 3 of them were at their best. Prodigy was at the top of his game, his voice was so ill early on. Havocs beats were so RAW and gutter, every time. Nas was strait Illuminati back then . he rhyme schemes were poetic back then. havoc has stayed ill, if not gotten better. P fell off. "We mobbin, puttin niggas in mausoleums...." ILL.

  • Mobb Deep +Nas + this beat = complete perfection. real ill beat tight here.

  • 'Nas is menage a troises on Mount Airy Lodges, We like a smooth fam but rougher than how Debarge is'

fkin ridiuclous line. might be my fav nasir verse ever.

  • fuckin' ill... missed this CD. Don't know what I did with it. Madd jammin' 4ever...!

  • best track on the album, easy.
