hey i gotta question jjrock, i have a 93 3000gt vr-4, its twin turbo but i am wanting to put aftermarket bov on it so it sounds better, do all i have to do is change it out? or is there more involved?
Yes I own a pt cruiser. But it is the cheapest turbo and convertible. It also shares the same motor as the srt 4 neon which isn't a slow car on the quarter.
If I have a stock t25 turbo, and I upgrade the BOV, will it make that "ppsshh" sound. The guy I bought it from put an upgraded BOV, but when I shift it sounds like it "chirps" a little. Is this good or bad? I have a 95 Eclipse GST
@XxREAPER3024xX Easiest thing you can do is get an aftermarket intake (open element air filter) on your car and also upgrade the bov to this 1g bov. Then you will get the "ppsshh" sound.
I have a very nice 1g bov for sale on the DSMTuners forums. $45 shipped to the US. PM me on here if you're interested. Thanks.
@XxREAPER3024xX that might be a boost leak try tightening the hose clamp screws or try buying a new decent fully resurculating bov ask the seller what noise it will acumilate when driving, this noise will vary on all cars beer this in mind hope this helps
I have an all stock 97 Eclipse GST, what all do i need to put the famous "PSSSHHHH" bov on there? its all stock even the rims and exhaust.. bought it from a female
@v6mr2102 your one of the lucky few to get an all stock dsm now days...they sell bov kits, get one that you can recirculate like this one, if not your car will not idle right and may not run right...try to not mod that car too much
Whats the difference between the two? The re-circulation and the other one. I just bought an HKS BOV and im curious. Which one is better? Which one is better for sound?
On cars that run a maf (mass air flow)sensor, compared to map (manifold absolute pressure). Cars that run off maf sensor need to recirculate the air from the turbo because since they meter airflow instead of manifold pressure. Not having air go back into the stream it will throw the computer off by not reading enough air thus dumping more fuel into the system.
@remorad basicly letting it out into the atmosphere is letting it out into the engine bay, rec. means it is re-directed into the lines that lead to the throttle body. please someone correctly if I'm wrong and feel free to add.
Don't instruct people to "really tighten" those bolts down. Over tightening will cause more leakage than when tightening to specs. and letting the gasket do its job! As far as the hoses go, if you over tighten, the hole will eventually crack over time.
@ashekproductions If you add a BOV to a N/A motor, it will be a "suck off valve", as it would open and allow unfiltered, unprocessed air into the intake (more than likely it would only make your car studder/die, if you found a way to make it open)
the bov in a non turbo car will to absolutely nothing because the intake of boost in a non turbo car will never reach a high enough psi for it to neeed to "let some air out"
ok so it's probably not safe to up any boost on the car? I'm new to the turbo world so i'm not sure where to begin with making the car run a little better. It's bone stock now. Will a aftermarket bov help the car run better or do I have to go with a different route to up the turbo performance. Thanks for the info man.
@Trent7224 I recommend getting a 1g bov or better if you still have the stock PLASTIC bov on your 2g. The stock 2g bov's are known to leak boost and you may not even be reaching the 14 lbs. Watch my vid on the red car to see what a stock 1g bov sounds like, much more efficient than that 2g. If you decide to go aftermarket then make sure you get a recirculating bov like what I did on this video.
video clear but bad directions. You should know what you are doing before you teach others. Never reuse a gasket that is the easiest way to get leaks. Gaskets are crushed when you use them and you will not get it to crush the same next time you use it. Using an allen wrench for a torx bit will work but a good way to strip out a bolt head.
@jjrock5 lol Sorry dude the video was good i was just drunk the first time i watched it. You wouldn't happen to know what the factory bov valve would be set at on a 1997 eclipse gst would you?
even tho he is justified on the leaving of the gasket, its still reccommended to change them, ive left old ones and they lasted for a while but after i put brand new ones on, for some reason, it made me feel mroe at ease, its really a mind over matter thing
Glad to see you got the recirc kit. I love my SSQV. I think the car pulls pretty good and have never had an issue with sticking or the amount of air released. You've had yours for a while, but I just wanted to add that you may have to mess with the adjustment screw on the back. I had mine set pretty loose so it would open at 0psi/0vac. But it was so loose that it would start creeping open around 13psi. FYI
uhhh don't you need a BOV that recirculates? i thought if you put ones that blow to atmosphere they ruin those stock turbos?
vGAstray 2 weeks ago
@vGAstray they do not. The only way a bov would destroy a turbo is one that does not release pressure.

Trent7224 1 year ago
@Trent7224 Its cool man! Bov's don't really designate the amount of
boost that turbos run though. The internal actuator on the stock T25 makes
the car run about 12-13 lbs. The electronic boost solenoid that these cars come with stock makes it run at about 14 lbs though. They all vary though.
