  • im with u...how they ll feel if sum 1 burn saudia flag??? or any muslim country flag... worst part that its happening right under the nose...if u live that country respect or leave...

  • in the United States everyone should have freedom of speech.

  • Whether you like it or not, burning the flag is free speech. If I buy a flag, that flag is MY property, not yours or the government's, and I may do with it what I wish. Would I burn a flag? Very doubtful, since I really don't see what that would accomplish. I'd much rather express my displeasure with my country through peaceful protest and in the voting booth.

Freedom of speech is there to protect unpopular speech, not those with which you agree.

  • It's a piece of cloth. Although it stands for much more, being in a free nation, you're damn right I would support someones RIGHT to burn the American Flag. Doesn't mean I think it's the right thing to do, but it's their right to do so. Are they doing harm to anything? No. It's a non-violent protest. Again, I don't think it's right, but it's a free nation, and they have the freedom to do as they please. I will always support flag burning as a right to our people.

  • Mr. Kroeger is right on the money. Those of you who find nothing wrong with burning the flag are idiots - it is a symbol of the United States of America - the greatest nation in the world and should be respected as such. I am amazed by the hatred expressed herein toward this country. Sadly it seems more popular to tear the US apart than to take pride in what it stands for stand for - one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.

  • I have to disagree. This country does NOT stand for liberty and justice. How can a country that stands for these things be willing to torture, kill, and simply destroy innocent people's lives. In my mind, and in many peoples mind, this country, and therefore this flag, actually stands for greed, hate, and plain evil. Obviously I only have 500 characters so I can't fully explain myself but simply, if this country is willing to destroy people's lives, we should be allowed to destroy it's flag. no?

  • your an idiot

    and probably a liar

    get over your self

an american flag is just a piece of polyester made in thailand that could have easily wound up being the french or british flag

there's nothing special about flags, and if people stopped be idealogical like you and bringing up hot button bullshit issues at election times, maybe decent candidates would get elected and improve this country

  • you are right. the american flag is just that. a flag. its material value is slim to nothing. HOWEVER, its spiritual position and patriotic factor is through the roof. That flag was flown in almost every corner of the world. It has protected our freedoms. So by burning the flag you are basically saying "fuck america and everyone in it"

  • I like desecrating the American flag. I feel it should be burned daily to exercise by my Constitutional right to protest everything wrong with America.

  • This is quite interesting... In Sweden, there'd probably be people cheering if you burned a Swedish flag since that proves you're non-nationalist... heh.

  • Jeez, you look as queer as Ben Johnson! Do y'all have Republican Crisco Parties with Mark Foley and Larry Craig afterward?

  • I'm afraid, Mr. Kroeger, that if you would punish people for burning the flag, then you would have protected the symbol at the expense of what it symbolizes. You've missed the entire point.

  • There's nothing more to say than this.

  • While it offends me to see a flag burning, it is free speech. I don't want more laws restricting speech. I want more speech, opposing those who would burn a flag.

I'm also offended by other misuses of the flag; doo-rags & other clothing, paper plates/cups/napkins, etc... But I wouldn't want a law against them, either.

  • i hate seeing the American flag being burned excpet in the correct circumstances when a flag is no longer fit for its duty.

why should anybody have the right to burn it deliberatly to cause upset to other people?

dont start that '1st amendment freedom' stuff with me... there are certain things accepted and certain things that shouldent be included into it and burning flags is one of them.

  • "why should anybody have the right to burn it deliberatly to cause upset to other people?"

I'm sorry to tell you this, but you do not have the right to not get upset at how others choose to exercise their freedoms.

  • i most certainly do if they do it infront of me - if they want to do their flag burning thing they do it in the privacy of their own back yard -

i am British but if any1 disrespects the US flag infront of me i will do the same to him as what he did to the flag!

  • 1. I'm an American and I've lived here all my life.

    2. I don't care if people burn flags to get attention, that includes the British flag, U.S. flag, or any other flag.

    3. While burning flags is fine by me, burning others isn't. People have the right to express themselves and their opinions in a way that does not harm others.

    4. If you don't like someone burning a flag, you too have the right to go somewhere else.

  • they should be stopped from being allowed to publickly desecrate the flag

  • Why should the U.S. government be able to force people not to burn the U.S. flag solely because it represents the United States? It is just a form of unnecessarily oppressing people's rights.

  • im not gonna say anymore on this - we clearly are just going to disagree - you just burn youn flag where i dont see u doing it

  • I'm sorry to tell you this, but I don't burn flags. Unlike you, I believe people's liberties are much more important than a flag that symbolizes some country. What that means is that even if I don't burn flags, I'll be just as vocal--if not more vocal--about supporting the right of people who wish to burn any country's flag to do so. You're a selfish fool who thinks that just because something offends you that the government should step in and arrest anyone who dares to offend you. Grow up.

  • I agree that desecrating the Flag is unacceptable.

The protest was in the right spirit, but I think some of the younger protesters see the flag as a symbol for their troubles (which are many).

It is unfortunate that current administration has abused us all to this point. God bless!
