Great video! Class acts all around. Jay-Z was a 13 year old boy when this great song came out. Really awesome to see hip hop in the R&RHoF. This song must have impacted Hov a lot
I'm glad they mentioned Sylvia Robinson in their acceptance speech. She discovered them and signed them to Sugar Hill Records back in the late 70s, the first rap label. Without her, there would be no hip hop music.
Melly Mel was awesome thats how you put it down speak from the heart.....And why was Jay-Z reading off a palm pilot your telling me he couldn't say what theses guys have meant for hip hop or himself free style thats an insult in my book he didn't even mention the late (Cowboy) damn! whatever Grandmaster flash and the furious five you will always be the originators and the true voice of inspiring kids to step up and fight to get out of the ghetto in a positive way! God bless you guys!
Rock n Roll? I doesn't matter cause they deserve respect and honor . God Bless them and all them Rocken Roller's that know quality when they hear it . Who would have ever though that this would happen ? Hip Hop! Damn ! So proud=D
Rock n Roll? I doesn't matter cause they deserve respect and honor . God Bless them and all them Rocken Roller's that know quality when they hear it . Who would have ever though that this would happen ?
see yes they are rap...and theres Rock and roll ...but rap drew a LOT of influences form Rock and Roll (just look at the song/album "KING OF ROCK"). This was a new genere...and GMF&FF were one of the best to do it....YES bands like KISS and DEEP PURPLE Should have been inducted prior to these guys, but that should not take this prestigious award away from them...they deserve it. CONGRATS!
Rap drew influences from Rock and Roll? LOL!.And Elvis, the Beach boys ,the Beatles,The Who,The Rolling stones took their sound from WHERE? Quote; John Lennon " We want to play music like the Black Americans do" . None of us really care about the R&R Hall of fame anyway. They are OUR heroes. The fact that people like you chose to recognise them matters not one jot .You call Kiss /Deep purple Music? To me its Just a load of unintelligible noise with a bunch of guys screaming loudly.
The Greatest MC of all Time ( "." ) Before Melle Mel this shit was just rap! Mel made it Hip Hop. He spoke the culure into existance. His style and his persona and everything else made him the creme of the crop when crap was dominating! He was a prophet then and his legacy still remains unparralleled. I can't stand to hear people compare Rakim or LL Coo J to this brother. You don't have to give him his props the future will.
I was looking, as I suspect most do, for a video of "Don't Push Me", and watched this hoping it would be included; it wasn't, but it has wonderful bits. Thanks for posting this; it is a treasure.
thats right the original hip hop artist were way real than most of todays. tell your ghetto story and fight to get out. not try to live a life of a thug/gangster just to have something to say. I was a kid when hiphop fist came out and the music was both fun and had a serious side, but it was real. somewhere along the late 80s it started to change. just listen to what some of the newschool is talkin about. mostly FakeBS if you ask me.
they it sooo great number one they is still life wow long time i mnot know bout that wow whoa ooooooooooooooooohhhh oh man i feeling so bad sigh tsk no joke i am so serously:(
as a white boy from Michigan in the early 80's, I loved these guys, Grandmaster Flash changed my life permanantly, gave me a love of music(all types mind you), great thing he did for me...
rock and roll is the tree the basic ground fro all the branch out of music from rock and roll you get yes rock (like rush and yes I've heard of them) then you get hip-hop, R&B pop, etc all these genres and from those genres you get their sub genres like indie, punk, rap etc but in the end it all leads up to the big tree known as Rock and Roll

Do they fall in the catagorey off skinny jeans and tight shirts,No disrespect but they look like they use to were ah lot ah clothing that was for women.New York take ya charge.Cmon son.
I don't know how music would be today without these guys. This is what you call true hip hop/rap. Hip Hop/Rap today sucks ass. Lil Wayne, Flo Rider, T-Pain, Soulja Bitch(boy), 50 cent are all killing hip hop/rap right now.
should james brown be in the hall...he's not "ROCK"..theirs tons of music artist that are in the hall that are not rock genre..rock n roll hall represents all music dummies..you just now figuring that out "SMH"..im young and I know that.
BTW: was james brown one of the first inductees in 1986?
I love grandmaster and everyone else in hip hop but can some one explain how in the hell they got in before Kool Herc who laid the foundation of hip hop back in the late 60's early 70's. With out Kool Herc there will be no hip hop
in the late 60's and early part of the 70's hip hop DJ's just use Disco records and alot of James Brown Records (RIP) Kool Herc was the first to just take the break beat of the records and extending into a longer song also he was the first to use to different break beats and many time the same break beat and this was call mixing. He called the hip hop dancers B-Boys and B-girls refering to Brakers or what is now called break dancing. He also was the one to give it the name hip hop.
Kool Herc is not in the Hall of Fame because he was never on any records. That is a requirement for induction. For those of you who don't who he is - HE IS THE FATHER OF HIP-HOP. It all started with him in 1973.
these boys are the shit. mo mistaking them for who they are and what they do and have done but why is hip hop mentioned so many times in a rock and roll hall of fame, oh and fuck aerosmith!
Let's be clear...Rock and roll came from Rhythm and Blues period...Elvis got his rhythm from blues and Black churches...Hendrix set a bar that no guitarist could reach...and without Hip Hop, no Kid Rock, Eminem, and Aerosmith...When Walk This Way came out by Run-DMC it gave Aerosmith the revival it needed, cause at the time, Aerosmith was not even doing well. Rock and Roll is all forms of strong music. Many of you so-called lovers of rock and roll really need to read and check your history!!!
aerosmith was on drugs and was panned by rock critics as selling out, it did nothing to enhance their careers, if it did dont you think they would still doing hip hop? walk this way with r-dmc sucked and you never hear it on rock stations. aerosmith in their own words, sucked at the time also. o' god of music
It you don't think that hip-hop's roots are in rock and roll then you're like the rest of the uninformed that think Elvis Presley started rock and roll! Hip-Hop is rock. Hip-Hop is jazz. Hip-Hop if Blues. HIP-HOP IS A FUSION OF ALL MUSIC! It's metamorphised just like rock had but it's still rock. Let me ask you something...Do you think B.B. King is rock and roll? If so, he's a blues artist so in your book, he doesn't qualify as a rock and roll artist right?
oh man come on now vamply your really diggin hard now. Elvis did not start rock and roll but he sure made it popoular. i do beleive blues, really is the basis for rock. the 50s were an incredible time when rock got its teeth. I agree B.B. is blues. the point is hip hop is not rock and has no contrbuting history to rock it is what it is hip hop. they need to get a hip hop,rap hall of fame i guarentee i would not give a shit who's in it. but how would you feel if they put ACDC or floyd in it?
Sharpton & Jackson live of off Poor Blacks and use them every chance they get. They're both Charlatans and Hypocrites. I will buy only from company's that sponsor Dom Imus. Fuck Al Sharpton.
