Veence Tay-luh et hees Playboyz........In-Cray-Dah-Blah!!! SO original and fresh!! (SARCASM). The extra bass drum was where le boys kept their wine and cheese!!
Many people consider Vince Taylor to be an Elvis clone. Neither he nor the Playboys were song writers and musically maybe they borrowed as much as they contributed...
But for theatricality, image, stage presence, mood, impact - they were years ahead of their time.
I'm a big Elvis fan. Voice-wise Elvis easily wins the battle. Taylor's a great singer, but come on, he can't hold a candle to the king. But moves-wise, sex-appeal, charisma? I think I'm voting for Vince.
@krypticzisback Not sure what I was thinking during my Vince phase. I will say that his television performance of Shakin' All Over probably tops any stage performance Elvis ever did. But this here and most other Vince one's just really aren't all that.
Bonjour, VINCE TAYLOR Taylor est toujours présent chez moi car mon père étais son photographe et aussi son meilleure ami !! il a même des photos inédites jamais encore développé
I used to have this song (What'd I say) in an album, sung by a black guy with a strong voice. The front cover showed him standing and one or two girls at his feet. It was a mid 70's or early 80's album. I lent it to a guy who I have never seen again. It was like 30 years ago and now I can't remember further details from the album, neither the singer's name nor the other songs' names but I love his version of this song and would like to have it again. Could any1 tell me which singer was that?
These guys were years ahead of their time... lots of people at the time would be singing this material, but the image, the leather, the looks, the heavy guitar sound.... the drummer with double bass drums????
As you say, Elvis wasn't dressing like this until several years later...the guy who Vince DID borrow this look from was Gene Vincent. Gene's trademark was head to toe leather...most likely, he's the guy that Elvis borrowed the look from, too!
Don't think it would be that unusual (or even ironic), considering what would be happening in next couple of months & years if I'm correct in my assessment that this vid. is probably from say early 1966. Think what was about to come to more prominence shortly after this just in '66: The Pretty Things, the Seeds, the mod band The Troggs huge #1 tune, "Wild Thing", into '67 leather tone rock of Jim Morrison of The Doors & a little later than that in '68 leather tone rock of Steppenwolf.

Vince was a lazy, inaccurate and flippant singer. Listen to Ray Charles for the real thing.

Double bass drums, in a rock and roll band?

The history books need re-writing!!!
