I've juste listen one of the best interpretetion of this piece... Great technique, great science approach of piano but... maybe Liszt had another view of the it.Imagination, sensitivity. This piece may be interpret by different ways, this is its advantage, so maybe Youndi could appropriate its little more..
I stand in utter awe of this person. I don't think I've ever heard anything so clean and simple and so touching. There's a great joy in listening to this.
with his very low level technique i think this media average pianist maybe practice 10 hours a day............
This version is clean, but really very poor.
Instead to lift every second his left hand he must begin to think seriously in a serach for a good teacher to rebuilt his ugly technique. Musically he has not enough hormome to play this piece.

Robotic performance, but satisfactory (B+) for a music conservatory student. I find myself agreeing with many of the criticisms on this page rather than the fair-weather Li Yundi fanatics.
To me, the best Liszt was played by maestro Claudio Arrau. He was pupil of Martin Krause and Krause was pupil of Liszt. To all boys under 20 I have to say there are artists like Perahia, Barenboim, Arrau(+),Kempff(+),Rubinstein(+),etc. Not all is Lang Lang or kind.
Uhmm i agree with you in some degree, but despite arrau was a great artist more than a great pianist (if you compare with Rubinstein as an example) he have som versions of Liszt music like the trascendental etudes whicj for me is the best version despite is not real very virtousistic, but musically is just great. BUT in general terms he was not the best Liszt player. Krauss was a Liszt pupil, but was not one of the great pupils like Tausig or Busoni.
that's the point.he won a competition, that means he plays like a good pupil. a real artist, who has something personal to say, and who has his own style, can not win a competition today. it's not like 30-40 years ago anymore...

well, yeah... i must agree with
nikolaimedtner.Though he makes no mistake, it is just like a computer. He was told where to play forte, where to make sF, but it's not enough. And the hand's are too stiff. But to learn it, and play it is still a great achievement.
Good pupils don't win 1st prize at the International Chopin Competition, after 15 years of vacancy. Perhaps you should upload your own version here... that way we could learn from your mighty insight on music.

Liszt himself must be rofl in his tomb, man your tastes in music must be awfully limited O_o"
no, liszt was a very fine composer, and i'm sure he detested this piece as much as most decent musicians. they're studies, based on simple tunes by paganini, so they're not masterpieces. his b minor sonata is an excellent pieces, i don't know if you've heard that? maybe you should listen to some bach or beethoven or some real music.
hmm maybe it's that your preference is more towards the baroque/classical flavor, because this is definitely not one of those LOL. I believe Liszt is a Romantic Composer and that's why his music is questionable to your liking. just a thought.
no i love a lot of romantic music, like i said liszt wrote some magnificent music, b minor sonata, annees de pelerinage etc. just so you know a lot of people regard paganini as classical because of the structure & characteristics of his music, he was half way between classical & romantic.
in my opinion brahms was the best romantic composer.
Seriously dude. Campanella is friggin awesome! He puts the P in passion. He puts the I in piano. He is the R in romance. Ok sorry, but seriously dude. I can't believe you would say that!!!
Have you noticed the variety of songs he plays? The majority is all romantic songs, and how can you not think he's passionate! Just because he doesn't bob his head up and down doesn't mean he doesn't have passion! Look at the way he moves his fingers across thhe piano keys! I'm just rying to say, he's a real passionate piano player...
> people like you make me laugh... so unfair, he did research musically it's certain and if you could even open your ears you'd hear it, it may not be the most refined interpretation but it's pretty good
Show us how YOU play it, I promise I'll be fair judge^^
it's weird that such a high level pianist does this basic mistake of making noise when pressing/releasing the pedal... maybe it's not his piano and he didn't get the chance to rehearse before, dunno...
Anyway, very cool playing, no doubt he's good^^ Although it's a bit too violent I think :p
evgeny kissin's is way better. you cant talk about musicality with a piece like la campanella, its a study not a musical masterpiece. kissin's is 20 times better technically
Ok I tried playing this piece like REALLY HARD. And this guy makes it look easy =[
Seriously this man has a good talent and watching him perform this piece is mind boggling. He definitly raised the bar for this piece, by making it the melody so beautiful with that pedal. good job.
if u must say so....i dont mind =D i saw him live so XPPPPP n i got his autograph =D no seriously he's a hard worker now stop givin negative critisizms
no seriously he's a hard worker now stop givin negative *criticisms* (i dont mind =D)? make up ur mind ^_^ lang lang is good so is yundi li only difference is that you guys cant match them ^_^ oh and Li is kinda stuck up.. but its all good. GJ on this piece i like the sustain pedal effect which he uses SO much but oh well...
Juste impressionnant.

Actually, one characteristic of Romantic Music was the exploitation of simple themes to their extremes--which Campanella epitomizes.
