  • nice regurg of wiki girl...

  • This is the The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore. Duomo is a generic Italian term for a cathedral church. A Duomo may be either a present or a former cathedral (the latter always in a town that no longer has a bishop nor therefore a cathedral, as for example Trevi). Such churches are usually referred to simply as "Il Duomo" or "The Duomo". The formal word for a church that is presently a cathedral is cattedrale. Santa Maria del Fiore being called Duomo is a tourist's corruption of the word dome

  • @painxtreme It would be called Duomo anyway, but a great many people believe this building is "THE DUOMO", and as Magnificent as it is (It really is) Its a Duomo....there is no singular Duomo.

  • Thanks, quick, clear, and informative... great work!

  • Thank you so much this is very usefull XD Just wondering could you put up the sites you used to get this info? It would make this a more reliable source :P

  • not correct. The italian word for "church" is "chiesa", not "Duomo". The "Duomo" (i'm simplifying) is the most important churc in a city..

  • Il rinascimento "italiano" è una balla

    tutto rinasce nel 1282.
