I lived in the UK for several years and I used to listen to this song and couldnt wait to go back to Brazil, I was literally looking for flying sourcers in the sky, as there is absololutely nothing besides drinking to do there. I wonder what Jean Charles´s family think of the quote about the police in Britain: 'they seem so please to please them'. yeah yeah maybe with a bullet on a brazilian head.
Nothing can show your stupidity better than your own comments. If you really think there is nothing to do in London except drink then you are simply revealing your own lack of imagination and joie de vivre. This is a really beautiful song written in London about London in 1969. It's qualities aren't impaired by a single tragic event that occurred 36 years later. Just as the police brutality in Brazil that Veloso exiled himself in London from doesn't reflect on Rio de Janeiro as a city.

And it isn't to just drink as you ridiculously suggest. Some British people retire to the sun because of the obvious attractions of that - they soon come back to use the free NHS though.
The imigrants that you are referring are also forced to live there as Caetano was.Your suggestion of 'cope with immigrants' just affirms what I said about Jean Charles.The immigrants are there because they have no other option,if they had they would go back to their countries, and as you said, they come back to use the NHS, not because of the wonderfull weather and the pubs.

He wasn't forced to live in Britain - he could have gone anywhere in the world but chose to live in Britain and was in rapture of it as per his song. His career achieved global recognition because of that too. In a late 1990s interview he said he was "bored of Brazil". Do yourself a favour: get your facts right before showing how completely stupid you are.
